"Well, this certainly seems to be doing you some good," Aphismet noted, watching Rivener.
The Raevan had been miserable for the past few days, cooped up in the house. He was hungry, and weak. Finally, Rivener had figured out the proper word to use: JERK. Thank goodness television was Aphismet's favorite passtime; Rivener had learned to speak quite well, for being so "young".
Aphismet had at first wondered why he was being called a jerk, but he soon remembered that Dr Tsu had said Rivener would need to "eat" nighttime. Aph had been starving him, the idiot! In a hurry, Aphismet had jumped off the couch, thrown on a light jacket, and taken Rivener outside.
It was near midnight. Rivener floated with less visible effort than before. He even had the hint of a smile! This walk through the park was just what he needed.

Julian had never, and would never be the sort to enjoy playing in parks. When he was a child he had avoided them, and now as an adult he only came under the veil of night. His purpose was simple, clear, and defined. A Raevan had to feed from an item that had to do with the fel essence that made up its composition. Gage's was quite easy, his being radio active good that would take energy from plants. This created a problem for his owner, however, as the young scientist often used such materials in his work.
A solution had been found in the park, where there were plenty of bushes, flowers, and other species of flora for Gage to feed off of. As long as there were no child that might end up traumatized, it took very little effort to enter the area and allow the Frei to find energy to sustain himself with.
It helped that many plants died on their own during summer, with or without the young Raevan's help.
It would not have been an unlikely sight for a late night visitor of the park to see the human seeming male on a bench, lounging just slightly, as the green horned creature plucked a rose from a bush only to have it decay in his grip.

That very picture is what Aphismet saw. He blinked and paled visibly. The green thing looked like a m-m-monster!
To Rivener, the scene unfolded in a completely different, more logical manner. This was not a monster, it was obviously another Raevan. Not only could Riv sense the presence that ressembled his own, he could also plainly see the missing lower body, swirling rags, and glowing rune. The man on the bench must be the mystery Raevan's keeper, much like the distraught young man by Riv's side.
Undaunted by Gage's unusual appearance, Rivener floated closer, eager to meet someone else of his kind. Someone other than Lazarus, for once. Hopefully this one won't try to burn him to a crisp.
"Hello," he said, his voice a low sultry sound wether he tried to make it that way or not.
"Holy $hit!" Aphismet swore between clenched teeth, hurrying after his Raevan, but not able to catch him before he said something to the monster. "Oh god we're gonna die," the young man muttered, having completely forgotten the normal-seeming man that sat on the bench. He kept his half-panicked gaze locked on the green thing, wondering what he would have the guts to do if it attacked his charge, his "kid".

Julian noticed the two strangers a second before Gage did. It was just enough time to move into action. The man pushed himself onto his feet, stalking over towards his own Frei and putting himself as a firm flesh wall between the two Raevan. His eyes darted from the winged figure to the anxious looking one, his own expression simple and stern.
Almost as quickly as he had moved into a defensive position, Julian was calm again. The good doctor would hardly place guardianship on someone dangerous. The move to protect Gage had merely been an instant reaction to someone disturbing his research.
"Hello," the green Frei said quietly, tilting his head as he examined the other Frei. The coloring was similiar to Vyn, but... he let the dead rose fall from his hand. This one did not have the eyes, and it talked. All the same, Gage kept his hands far away.

Aphismet only now seemed to notice the man, who had moved to block Rivener's path to Gage. Good thing, too, because Rivener didn't look like he would have stopped otherwise; he would have probably floated WAYY too close, invading Gage's personal space. Riv never really understood the whole "personal space" thing. Touching people was warm; being warm was good. Therefore, touching people was good!
"Err, y-.. That thi- What's that?" Aphismet asked the other person, pointing stealthily at Gage. He still darted glances at it, wondering if it would attack. It spoke pretty calmly, but that might not mean anything!
Ignoring his keeper's rude questions, Riv kept his attention on Gage, smiling at him slyly.
"What's your name? You're like me, aren't you?"

"What is what?" Julian questioned frankly, raising an eyebrow just before he realized what the man meant. With his new understanding, he offered the stranger a rather disappointed look. He was fairly sure it should have been obvious to another Raevan owner, though the Frei infront of him looked almost entirely human. It was possible the man assumed all of the Raevan would. That thought was enough to force the scientist to lower the intensity of his glare in favor of a shrewd smile. "He is Gage. He is my Raevan. I assure you, unless you happen to be a plant, he is quite harmless."
Gage's wings fluttered with a mechanical sort of clicking. It was a sure sign of curiosity or agitation from the Frei, though in this case it was most likely the former.
"Gage," he answered shortly before he allowed the other a confirmation. "I am like you."

"Raevan" seemed to be a magical word, as it eased all fear out of Aphismet as soon as the other uttered it.
"Wow, that's a Raevan too? They really come in all shapes? I really never saw any other Raevan apart for Riv, so I'm sorry I got scared. Yours really looks... er, odd. Oh, no offense that it! He's not odd, he's interesting!" Damn. Putting his foot in his mouth again. No wonder he never had someone stay interested in him for more than ten minutes.
"Gage. Nice to meet you." Rivener tilted his head slightly, flexing his wings slightly as he floated a little bit closer, inching sideways to perhaps find a path closer to the other Raevan, a path around its keeper. It was so much nicer seeing people up close. "You look very different from Lazarus and I. Why the mask?"

Julian had a mind to give the other man the instruction manuel for how one should remove their foot from their mouth, but he assumed he did not own the necessary mental crowbar. In the end, the subtle smirk stayed, as did the mild amount of agitation. "Is that so? You are entitled to your opinion, though I would rather you look beyond mere appearances."
He crossed his arms over his chest sharply. "It seems the appropiate thing to do."
Wary, Gage floated back a bit, wringing his hands in a clearly nervous manner. Now that Julian was subdued there was more than enough room for the other Raevan to get at him. This might not have bothered the green Frei so much if the strange Raevan did not look so much like Vyn. It helped little when his mask was mentioned.
"D-do not come closer," he declared, holding up a hand before taking it back quickly. "I do not want..."

Shuura scowled slightly and rolled her eyes at her slowpoke charge, who was taking her sweet time reclining in the shade of a nearby tree. "Hurry uuuuuuup, Vyn," She called back. "We don't have all night, y'know."
Shuura had thought that taking care of Vyn would be a peice of cake, hey, it didn't eat normal food, it didn't talk so it can't complain or anything, but nooooo here she was in the middle of the night, her hair was a mess, she had bags under her eyes, she was wearing only her PJs and she and taking this thing out like---like---well, like walking a dog that just had to get out or else it would---well. Y'know.
She'd woken up in the middle of the night to see Vyn hovering right next to her, and two freakishly glow-in-the-dark yellow eyes staring out at you is NOT something that would send you back to sleep in a hurry. Vyn had stared at her meaningfully, then turned to stare outside, so Shuu was forced to put two and two together and take Vyn out. Appearantly, Vyn needed energy, for she was now standing in almost all the shadowy areas of the nearby park Shuura had elected to go to.
I dunno, what, is she tired of the shadows in the room or something? Heck, do shadows even TASTE different? Shuu didn't know. Hell, she wasn't the one who ate shadows for a living.
Vyn followed along somewhat obediently, although taking longer than what her guardian would have liked. Her dislike of movement had eventually been combated by her growing dislike of being continually cooped up in that....room, especially since Shuura wasn't even around that much. It felt....she didn't know the word for it. Not-right.
The cool night air made her feel more vibrant. And there were shadows everywhere! This suited Vyn. She drifted a little closer to the enclosure of trees and bushes at her guardian's insistence.

"Do not want what?" Rivener asked, continuing his slow advance, looking very comfortable and pleased with himself. He simply liked being close to people, especially when he spoke with them.
"Oh, erm, I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything by it... I just meant that he.. Err, what's he made from? Mine is a- I mean, he used to be a scorpion. A really old scorpion. And he was also made from some little black rock. That's why we're here. That is, that's why we're outside, at night, it feeds him... Does it feed yours too?" He knew he was rambling, but he couldn't stop himself. It was as though he was a seperate entity looking on from somewhere else, yelling at himself to Stop Talking. Aph opened his mouth to talk some more, then decided against it and clamped his mouth shut.

Gage shivered shying farther back from the other male Frei. He was itching to say just what might happen, but there were memories from the festival still firmly in his mind. There was a certain darkness within his soul that said it probably was not such a big deal to hurt people once in awhile. Yet, it felt a little painful. Awkward. He did not want to unleash any of that sort of power on yet another of his own breed.
A voice called out through the night, and it was familiar. Familiar enough, in fact, that Gage wasted no time in ducking behind a bush.
With a somewhat amused expression on his face, Julian glanced at the Raevan then towards the woman and her Frei's area of entrance. He was somewhat grateful for a third person. Perhaps Ms. Shuura could translate between him and the man before him.
"Ms. Shuura. Vyn. Over here, if you will."

Shuura wanted nothing more than to just drop down on the spot and nap away while Vyn dragged behind, but as it was, she preferred to drop down on something preferably less wet than the grass--a park bench, hopefully, and then she could just laze around while Vyn lolled around and sucked up all the goddamned shadows she wanted.
It was a good thing Vyn needed shadows. If Vyn had needed something like sunlight, for example, Shuura would have dumped her in the nearest trash bin without a second look back, supposedly-valuable-science-experiment-or-no.
Vyn, who had better hearing than Shuura and a decidedly better attention span, turned when she heard her named called. Floating over to Shuura, she pointed in the direction of Julian, who had called out to them.
"Wha-?" Shuura squinted into the distance where Vyn was pointing. Oh great. Company. She attempted to fix her hair by running a hand through it but only made it messier. Sighing, she approached the figures in the distance.
'Whaddap, Jules?" At first Shuura had thought this guy was a drunkard with a decidedly horrid taste in clothing, but after some...talks, with the guy, she had come to be a little more impressed. "Given the pimp outfit a rest, I see?" Belatedly she noticed that there was another Raeven here. Gawd. What is this? Lab Convention? Holy Nerd Park Mecca? This new one, though, was decidedly....well, sexy. His coloring was similar to Vyn's--black and red, Shuura's favorite colors. She nodded to the guy next to the pretty male one, thinking he must be his guardian. "Who's your friend, Jules?"

"Err... " Aphismet gulped. Another person! Another Raevan! And... And both were Girls! The Raevan was... Well, she didn't leave much to the imagination, and Aphismet found it hard to look at her without blushing. He decided to keep his gaze averted from her, for safety's sake; no doubt he'd embarrass himself well enough without being called a pervert for staring at a supernatural creature's chest.
"I, er... I'm Aphismet. I just met this, er, Jules is it?" He turned to Julian with a nervous smile. "And his Raevan. What a coincidence that you should be here too! Your Raevan looks... well, kinda like mine. Oh? Where'd the green one go?" Aphismet asked, glancing about.
Rivener, surprised, wondered why Gage had jumped into a bush all of a sudden... He then heard the new arrivals, and turned to look. Two females. One of them was like him! VERY like him, to judge by the colors. For some reason he couldn't really explain, he didn't look forward to meeting her. Still, no need to be impolite.
"Hello," he offered, in his usual sultry voice.

Julian had spent enough time with rather verbally agressive females not to take a large amount of offense when Shuura manipulated his name. He inclined his head towards her in slight greeting, completely ignoring the comment on his "pimp outfit" in favor of staying more or less polite.
"My name is Julian, Mr. Aphismet," the young man corrected firmly, gaze drifting onto him for only a minute. His interest was waning on the humans in favor of the Raevan that were gathering nearby.
It was almost comical to watch as Gage's hiding bush decayed rapidly and turned into dust all around him. He crouched in the spot, looking quite disturbed at his own power as he traced a finger in the new substance.
Wings clicking away, he rose to his full floating height, dusting his arms off as he moved closer towards the other two Raevan. There was no use hiding from Vyn if his hiding place was merely going to die all around him. It was much more upsetting than simply trying to keep his distance from the girl. "Vyn."

"Aph-ismeeearghH?" Shuura promptly forgot everything after the first syllable and stopped caring. "Oh, so you just met Jules just now? Funny. Never knew Jules was the social butterfly type." She turned to observe the sultry male Raeven floating confidently beside the guy. "Wow," Shuura said with a grin, the moonlight glinting off a particulary sharp canine tooth. "You look like you could be Vyn's twin brother or something."
Vyn was slightly startled. This other one was like her, too, and he felt somehow....familiar, but Vyn couldn't really figure out why. Although she wasn't really sure what was going on, she had better manners than her guardian. Dipping down into a graceful half-curtsy, she acknowledged them all with a dainty nod of her head.
Shuura was slightly disturbed as a nearby bush seemed to undergo rapid radioactive decay. "WTH." A Frei as green as the bush he had been hiding in litterally popped out. And greeted Vyn. Oh wait, I know this guy. We gave him melon ice cream at the Matsuri, Shuura remembered, her memory not failing her completely for once.
Vyn turned to the direction of the voice. It was...the green one again. Vyn tilted her head slightly to the side, before nodding daintily again to acknowledge him too. However, she secretly found the new Raeven to be more interesting.
