This year our band is playing a Styx themed show. We are playing (in order) Mr. Roboto, A.D. 1298/ Rockin' the Paradise, Too Much Time On My Hands, and The Best of Times. Compared to the music from last year, I would say that this year's music is just a tad-bit more difficult. There are accents and rimshots in places that can really throw you out of whack. In essence, I guess I'm wondering if you think that your music is difficult. Also, feel free to discuss: * Your show's theme * What percussion instrument you play * Problem sections in your music, etc.

well our theme last year was, uh..Mexican..Malaguena, A Mis Abuelos and Malaga were the names. Our bass parts werent execptionally hard, but the quads (they have six drums on them now, so what do I call them?) had a whacked solo. It was intense but also kickass. But this coming year, I hear that ou show is gunna be incredably lame and stupid, and if I remember correctly, was performed two years ago by another school in our district. How un-original is that.. scream Its called Chronometry, with movements of Grandfather Clock, Hourglass andStopwatch; two of which look like the shortest movements I've ever seen. And its ALL in four-four time!! scream stressed Can you say boring? (by the way, Im looking at my bro's bari sax music for the show)

This year, the marching theme is like Cuban/Latin music. It sounds great but if there's even one person missing in percussion then the whole thing sounds bad. The pit has a HUGE part and it's intense. It's going to be so fun and soooo hard! I'm really excited though. We haven't gotten our music but we've been told that the pit has several solos and duets with flutes and stuff. Can't wait!!!

Sounds pretty cool. In response to WolfofMibu, Maleguena is pretty f-in sweet. You can go to YouTube and do a search for DCI videos and there will be a video of Maleguena performed by DCI Blast! and it's really cool. Very dramatic.

I saw DCI Blast! and it was by far the coolest thing I've seen on stage. Unfortunately, the seating was pretty poor in the theater, so I think it was difficult to fully respect the show after seeing it only once. But I downloaded a few Blast videos, and now I can go back and relive the joys of that evening again and again. Concerning the difficulty of my snare music, I suppose it's pretty challenging, since the guy who writes it for us was in the Cadets for three years, and he really doesn't understand that we're younger and therefore less skilled then the snare line in a DCI Corp. But it's really sounding great (at least what we've learned) and our cadance is simply wicked. The show we are doing this year is "Russian Dances". I haven't heard any of the music except the first 18 measures, but even that brief portion makes me pretty excited about the show this year.

I've spent alot of time this summer following Spirit from JSU. My boyfriend marches mellophone in the corp and I'm trying out for the Spirit bassline this fall.

I'm a 5th bass and most of the bass line isnt hard at all but the bassline is made of 3 people who dont give a s**t about the line,Of course im not one of those but this year our theme is LOCOmotion its really cool because drumline is the.....Engine of the band and we get to run up on this 5Ft tall stage and play a little solo.

Our music is friggin easy >< It's all double-posts and whatnot, and there's only one hard run. Eh.. we've only gotten two movements so far, but still >< Supposedly the percussion writer will beef up our parts soon.
Our show's Divine Comedy by Robert W. Smith. =D

I started playing cymbals this month; it's pretty easy learning it but I have no one to practice with and I find that difficult because if I'm practicing alone, I expect to play alone but I'm supposed to mesh it in with marching band music and we have a big game to play in one week and I cannot possibly play well. xDDD

in our jazz percussion group, we have specially written music by our professor. it's not too hard, but when you look at the tempo, it's soooooo much harder.
we also have to solo in different parts of the songs. yeah... improv. gah!

I play top bass drum. And I'm a GIRL. So sue me.
Our music: "Cinemagic: a celebration of music for film." -Prologue from Hook: Easy peasy -Hedwig's Theme from Harry Potter: Med. Hard -Cadillac of the Skies from Empire of the Sun: Drummers don't play -Duel of the Fates from Star Wars: Hard! It's the drum feature! -Flying Theme from ET: Don't have the music yet.
Our original parts are lame, but our instructor is rewriting them to make them awesome!

I've gotta give props to the bassists out there. I was bass captain for 2 years (my sophomore and junior years). I actually made snare my junior year but I went back to bass because the music was too difficult for anyone else to teach and my b.d. begged and pleaded for me to go back and be the instructor. This year I'm on snare, but I must say... I miss my bassline. Alot of people under-estimate the difficulty and power of the bassline. It can be pretty darn tough.
