Can someone explain Diablo II's storyline?

I don't understand what Diablo is actually doing with Mephisto and Baal and who is who.

In diablo one your a hero who kills diablo, then you stick a rock containing diablo's soul in your forehead, so you become diablo. Then your brothers Meph and Baal corrupt the most powerful mage to ever live, and the head of the most powerful religion on earth using the other soulstones (Rocks with evil souls). Thats pretty much it, without the annoying hero killing everything.

If you really wanna understand the storyline go play diablo,even after that d2's story isn't that great especially xpacs story the way they ened it just sucked

Diablo is trying to unite with his brothers Mephisto and Baal so that they can create an unstoppable evil to take over the world

guys? rolleyes look at this

ok diablo=spanish word for devil
ok baal=an ancient war god guy
ok mephisto=never heard of him

then listen too the other guy that explained it and in diablo:2 you dont stick it in your forehead you give it too that tyreal or whoever it is the stuck it in his sword and threw it into the worldstone-thingy it got destroyed (picture lord of the rings 'cept instead of lava its some portal)

the hero kills dr.evil escapes and gets the girl! thats some thing i just threw that part in.
