Lately I've had trouble finishing books. No matter the book, when I read it I just can't get sucked into it. I keep remembering its just a book, and can't focus on it. It becomes a chore to finish a book instead of a pleasure.
Any advice on how to get myself out of this? Have any of you gone through this?

I can't say I've been in that situation. Well, sometimes I have, but its over by the end of the "dot" if you know what I mean. When I'm tired and weak, my brain is mush and I can't focus. So I can't read anything unless its young adult or something that won't kill my brain. 'Course, when I get better, I can read again.

For me, if that ever happens, it's not really about reading. I just get sick of having the same routine all the time. Or, if there's something that I have to read and don't want to, that sometimes sucks the joy out of reading other things too.

Summer has that effect on my will to read, actually... Along with other things. Everything can be put off until tomorrow, you know? I'm a big procrastinator ontop of that! sweatdrop

Sometimes I wonder if it is disinterest or just the fact that we choose bad books to try and read. sweatdrop I was having that problem a lot last summer, but that dry spell finally broke when Half-Blood Prince came out. I'm a dork and yes I fully realize it.

Paracket Summer has that effect on my will to read, actually... Along with other things. Everything can be put off until tomorrow, you know? I'm a big procrastinator ontop of that! sweatdrop Me too, for some odd reason I read alot of "fun" book during the school year but when summer comes I hardly touch a book. Also I want to read the 5th and 6th Harry Potter books again because the other day when my best friends was asking questions I could harly answer them. The trouble is that I can't just open 5 and read, I HAVE to read the 1st, 2nd, and so on. But I have read the first many times so its almost like "heh..."

I pick something else to be obsessed with when that happens to me. I always want to read the rest of the book eventually. :+)

I get a sudden disinterest in reading is when there's distractions around me, or I have something on my mind, or if I'm hungry, or where I'm sitting as I read is really uncomfortable.

I was at another forum for bookworms when I noticed a popular thread for what all the members had read during the past month. I started to move the cursor toward the reply button, but then it hit me how slim my July readings were in truth. I could only remember one title that I had completely read, but several unfinished works that quickly lost my interest. If I actually had anything to do with my time, this would not bother me. However, I have nothing to do with my time this summer so it's rather sad. dark_elf I like your avi Fantasy Moon. 3nodding Thank you!

I'm having that problem right now too. Usually in the summer, because of no school or homework and crap like that i read like mad....but this summer i've got no motivation to read.....i pick up a book and i can't get into it. The book that i'm reading on and off right now is a book about the allusions in the Narnia books. Which is a book that isn't very thick and i would have been able to read it in about a day or two depending on what i was doing, is now taking 4 days and counting. It is like my sister who used to hate reading sucked all my bibliophileness out of me....

I think I'll just return to reading my own books for a little bit then. Maybe that'll spark my desire to actually finish something. All the books I've been trying to read are what I get at the library.
