I just saw the movie... 12:01 showtime. Needless to say, I was a huge fan of the books, and was looking foreward to this movie a lot. I even dressed up as Arthur Dent.

Having said that, this movie IS NOT the same as the books. Not by a long shot. They took HUGE liberties with the plot, and even changed around the characters quite a bit too.

This all culminated with me leaving the theater thinking "Well, that was different." Different. That's the only word I could find to describe it. I honestly couldn't tell you if it was good or bad, because all I noticed was how much it was NOT the book.

SO... (We finally get to the point of my thread) If anyone has seen this movie, and HASN'T read the books, let me know your opinion. I want to hear your point of view.

if you had heard the original radio series it also has very large inconsistencies with the book and it is in the authors style to have such inconsistencies hell in the version of the book I read he said as much in the foreword. I want to see the movie but I don't have time

I haven't seen it yet, but my friend claims that they did add a lot. She loved it, of course, but I a ma little weary. The book was great, but the movie . . .

I wish I could go see the movie, but I don't have anyone to go with. =

Is the movie worth seeing in the theatre, or should I wait for it to come onto HBO(or another movie channel)?

See it in theaters. Better chance for a sequel.

Besides, who needs friends? Go by yourself... that's what all the cool kids do.

I plan to see it next time I'm at my dad's... but that could be a long way off. Unless he comes here, which is unlikely. Anyway, I'm basicly saying I have no opinion on the matter...

My friends and I can't figure out who the blonde guy on the previews is, unless he's Zaphod. If he is, then they totally screwed him up.

He actually does have 2 heads, for I feared he only had the one, but the way they did his heads isn't like it was in the book.
I think what ended up happening with things like that is that the director took liberties with it after Douglas Adams died. That's all I can muster up thus far.
The movie was really good, but it did differ ALOT from the book. I really am not sure how they would throw in a sequal, for they totally ruined the whole part where Arthur and Ford would crash land on Earth in the distant past.
What really bothered me was the whole underlying love thing with Trillian and Arthur, for there was never anything remotely close to it in the books, even with Random in the picture.

What I did like was how there were alot of things from the old BBC series in the movie (I own it on DVD). For one, the title music was the same. Also, in the prison, there is a robot in the background that was the same as teh one that was marvin. Also, the security message on Magrathea was the same actor as he who played Arthur in the BBC Series.
