This is just a topic for sort of shooting the breeze. If you have random ideas or questions regarding Gundam Wing, feel free to post them here.
Question: What do you use to guess at characters' nationalities? I've seen a couple of fanfics where the author believes that Relena is French, but I don't see it...I just don't see her having any of the qualities typically associated with the French (and no, I don't mean arrogance, condescention, and cowardice. I'm trying to be serious here. razz )

I figured French maybe English because she's got that regal....... any high class European outside of the ones closest to Africa.
It's hard to say because well I dunno Wufei was stereotypically chinese......... Quatre looked nothing like an Arabian..... Heero deffinately not japanese......... and Duo....................... yeah Duo was totally American.

I figure Relena and Zechs are some type of Scandinavian nationality...I believe the Cinq Kingdom is Northern European. And doesn't Zechs remind anyone of the tragic Danish prince Hamlet?
As for the pilots I think they all landed in their land of national origin, this is made fairly clear in the manga version....besides, most anime characters look nothing like the nationalities they supposedly are.

Midii wins - the Kingdom is officially Scandinavia. Of course, this isn't common knowledge, so people guess.
Maybe part of it has to do with the fact that Char and Sayla are French...

Alright, I just had this random thought and figured it'd fit under this thread^_^. If the Gundam pilots were teachers, what would they teach? Here's what Oreasa and I think, feel free to discuss and dispute to your hearts content!
Heero: Some kind of advanced tech, like CISCO training or something.(AKA, taking computers apart and putting them back together, programming them.....possibly a little bit of hacking as well >>....<<....) Duo: Hands-on Chemistry (heh heh 'And then mix a little 'a this an' a little 'a that an'.....BOOM!) or gym. Trowa: Either specialized gym (i.e. gymnastics....unicycling...) or Theater ('cause he's got the best poker face out of all of 'em!) Quatre: Public Speaking (^^) WuFei: Self-Defense ('cause you KNOW we would all love to learn some Kung Fu taught by Wu-man! lol)

Just how long were humans living in colonies by the time Operation Meteor happened o.o? Would people by that time have like.. 'colony 83X1999' nationality? Just imagine:
'Hey! Are you Scandinavian?'
'No I'm actually 83X1999ian!'

They probably just consider themselves "colonists" though.

With the nationalities and all...what country do you think Trowa came from? I saw one website saying that he was from Europe.

Ethnically, Trowa is always referred to as Latin American. However, the Endless Waltz novel says that he was born while his parents were on tour with their circus in eastern Europe.
What that makes him is up to you, but the official media goes with Latin American. Does that mean he can shake his bon-bon?

Since, you’re on the topic of nationality. Let me see if I can list the ones I know:
Heero- Japanese Although I’m not exactly sure because of is blue eyes hence my thread regarding “Is Heero really Japanese?”
Duo- American No Southern or red neck accent though. I wonder from what state? His English VA (Scott McNeil) is originally from Australia and migrated to Canada so no one can really tell from the voice.
Trowa and Catherine- Latin American (based on your discussions)
For all we know, he really can shake his bonbon. Heck! He could be descended from Ricky Martin! And Catherine, being his sis, is probably of the same blood.
Quatre- Arabian
His dad, I think, is only part-Arab. Add his French mother Quaterine into the mix and you get a very white Arabian.
Wufei- Chinese
No dispute there.
Zechs and Relena- Sank? (Scandinavian)
Some say Lacus is Scandinavian too. Who’d have thought?
Treize- Aryan
Aryan? But what country?
Hilde- German
With a last name like Schbeiker, it’s very likely.
Dorothy- I don’t know
She’s probably Aryan like Treize...
Sally- Chinese- American?
I’m not exactly sure. Anyone know?
Noin- Mediterranean (Italian?)
I’m not exactly sure about her either...
Une- German
Hm... I wonder if she had an accent once. It would be amusing to hear her speaking like Heidi Klum...

I think Scott McNeil tried to give Duo a bit of a Gool Ol' Boy tone in his performance. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure.
I'm not quite sure, but I think Treize's "Aryan" means that he's descended from Nordic stock.
And yeah, Lacus is officially Scandinavian. I think the Seed staff may have done that intentionally.

Dorothy must have been spawned from Antarctica. No other continent could produce that quad-browed demoness domokun

Trowa being European fits with my theory that the pilots all landed in their place of national origin, it fits for all the other pilots and Trowa landed in Dover, England, according to the manga. I read in one Tech Manual, can't remember title, but it's sold at Borders, said Cathrine is Russian. So if you believe they are siblings, Trowa aka Triton Bloom, would also be Russian. Fits well with the circus background and Void's info!
