Welcome to this friendly lil' debate session. This place is by no means trying to undermine any pairings. It is just a place where lovers and non-lovers of the featured pairings come together and give their point of view as to why a particular pairing works or don't for them.
Please exercise patience and refrain from flaming others. This is, after all, just a lil debating corner, and all views are welcome. I hope to see constructive thoughts here (fangirling/fanboying is allow, but pls don't go OHMYGODSOANDSOISSOOOOCUTE!!!).
Thank you for participating and hope you enjoy your stay here. biggrin
p/s: I'm only concentrating on only three pairings as these are the main/prominent pairings in Saiyuki fandom as of now.
Reference: Sanzo = 3 Goku = 9 Gojyo = 5 Hakkai = 8
SanzoGoku = 39 GojyoHakkai = 58 SanzoHakkai = 38

rasinah Reference: Sanzo = 3 Goku = 9 Gojyo = 5 Hakkai = 8 SanzoGoku = 39 GojyoHakkai = 58 SanzoHakkai = 38 hey, i guess this may be a stupid question, but...where do the numbers come from for each person? i haven't seen number reffrences for characters in anything except Gundam Wing...but that's just 'cause their names are numbers sweatdrop anyway, i don't think it's a bad idea or anything. it's actually a good idea for when you want to confuse your friends who don't watch anime. umm...yeah...point...where do they come from?

*blink* How is 5 x 3 a less prominent pairing than 3 x 8? O_o;

Muraki *blink* How is 5 x 3 a less prominent pairing than 3 x 8? O_o; I don't think it's less prominent (well, maybe... I write more than I read), but I think people are more comfortable with 383 than 353 (or whoever as seme/uke) because it's less of a power struggle between the character's personalities. Sanzo and Hakkai seem to just mesh more easily (if no more prettily) than Sanzo and Gojyo.

Muraki *blink* How is 5 x 3 a less prominent pairing than 3 x 8? O_o; Ooh, don't get me wrong. I personally prefer 5 x 3 vastly over 39 or 58. But why I don't find 5 x 3 prominent is due to the lack of fics on this pairing (I've written one, just for your info). Another reason is that the followers of this pairing are still relative smaller in size compared to 38'shippers. I hope you understand my reasoning. But by all means, you can go ahead and flaunt your pairing here. I don't mind. It's a healthy debate session after all. biggrin

Personally- I've seen a large amount of 5 x 3 fanfiction... ^^;;
Also- as for Hakkai and Sanzo meshing... they mesh so well I could never see them ever doing anything. XD;; Drinking tea for hours and having polite conversation...
I guess the forwardness of a Sanzo x Gojyo relationship could be a little uncomfortable for some people- but I find it refreshing and a whole lot easier... XD;; Thank god for Gojyo- who would just cut to the chase and go for it.
But yeah- I have no problem with other pairings either. I just like to argue for this one. ^_^ heart

As an experienced 383/585/385 RPer, I believe I have some idea of just how well Sanzo and Hakkai can be together. And Gojyo can get pretty jealous sometimes. 3nodding blaugh

XD;; Drinking tea for hours and having polite conversation... Ah, why am I not surprise by this - excuse me - stereotyped HakkaiSanzo interaction? blaugh Yes, they mesh too well... to the point they could communicate almost mentally, understanding each other's intent without words (think Chin Isou arc, as well as Homura arc when Hakkai wanted to stay behind so as to allow the other 3 to move on). When they are together, they are obviously very comfortable in each other's presence. They drink coffee, engage in polite conversation, sometimes none at all - and people often take it for granted that this kind of relationship is, well, boring. But if you really feel at ease with one another, words are just pointless, you know? If you feel the urge to strike up a conversation with someone just because you find it's too quiet, it goes to show that you're feeling somewhat insecure and that there's a gap somewhere, not only between the two of you but within you as well. And you forget, that Hakkai can be quite a tease sometimes and that Sanzo has proven himself to be able to humor Hakkai as well. Remember the drinking contest incident? Well, that's just my two cents' worth on 383. heart Muraki I guess the forwardness of a Sanzo x Gojyo relationship could be a little uncomfortable for some people- but I find it refreshing and a whole lot easier... XD;; Thank god for Gojyo- who would just cut to the chase and go for it. But yeah- I have no problem with other pairings either. I just like to argue for this one. ^_^ heart I'm fine with the forwardness of a SanzoxGojyo relationship, though I sometimes find it irritating when writers tend to give Gojyo a bad makeover, such as making him take Sanzo by force. I honestly think Gojyo is capable of breaking down Sanzo's defences by sweet-talking, you know what I mean? There's really no need for force, though I do love a good squabble between the two. sweatdrop People often see Gojyo as the seme, be it for 58 or 53. I think he will be so adorable as an uke. And the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced he's actually more suited for the uke role in a BXB relationship. He may be a ladies' man, the one in control, but I'm thinking that's just a facade he's putting on; he's nursing a hurt ego/soul due to the fact he had failed to gain his stepmum's love. Whatcha think? Gojyo = uke = good? xd

Hm, 353.....you know, I see it as a drunken, one night stand scenario. I know that sounds sad, but the idea of these two keeping up some sort of relationship seems almost impossible.
The 383, from what I have seen, is probably the most popular, and though I'm a 585, I completely understand how people see these two working.
I know it's already been stated, but you know, just the simple fact that Sanzo does not threaten Hakkai ever 5 seconds with his gun does speak quite loudly. Sure, this could be interpereted as love, but when it comes down to the wire all I see is a mutual respect. But then again, I am biased. Like I said, I'm a 585 fan.
Gojyo heart Hakkai

Quote: As an experienced 383/585/385 RPer, I believe I have some idea of just how well Sanzo and Hakkai can be together. And Gojyo can get pretty jealous sometimes. That triangle is so fun. *snigger* Can you imagine all the scheming that would go on? Quote: And you forget, that Hakkai can be quite a tease sometimes and that Sanzo has proven himself to be able to humor Hakkai as well. Hm, I have to agree. Quote: I'm fine with the forwardness of a SanzoxGojyo relationship, though I sometimes find it irritating when writers tend to give Gojyo a bad makeover, such as making him take Sanzo by force. I honestly think Gojyo is capable of breaking down Sanzo's defences by sweet-talking, you know what I mean? To this I say, I agree that Gojyo probably /could/...but Gojyo has a short fuse- I think his bad temper and lack of patience could eventually drive him to force the bratty monk into squirming under him. He hates Sanzo's high and mighty attitude, and it would probably feel pretty satisfying to one-up him. Quote: He may be a ladies' man, the one in control, but I'm thinking that's just a facade he's putting on; he's nursing a hurt ego/soul due to the fact he had failed to gain his stepmum's love. I think it's true that he is nursing a hurt ego/soul and putting on a facade- but I also think that he would try and overcompensate because of that. Like- try /too/ hard to make up for the fact that he failed in the past. Also I imagine Gojyo likes to be in control, because being out of control scares him. If he's in control he keeps from being hurt. Quote: Hm, 353.....you know, I see it as a drunken, one night stand scenario. I know that sounds sad, but the idea of these two keeping up some sort of relationship seems almost impossible. Gojyo and Sanzo strike me as meshing better than most people think... They both have this issue where they want love but they refuse to tell anybody because they don't want to look weak. As for Hakkai- He and Sanzo strike me as just good friends. I also think Hakkai knows Gojyo better than Sanzo-- on account of living with him for 3 years-- so I can imagine some romance growing from that. But does Hakkai really know Sanzo? Does anybody really know Sanzo? Aaaand...I need a life.

No, I agree. The fact that Hakkai and Gojyo have been together for so long prior to the series seems to speak volumes to me. The fact that Gojyo, the self proclaimed wild ladies man of the group, would allow the quite and almost motherly Hakkai to stay with him for so long. Maybe it was just a need for some companionship, or maybe someone just to take care of him, but Hakkai does have a comfortable feel to him and the others don't seem to mind letting their hair down around him.
I agree with the idea that Gojyo definitely desires someone to want and love and someone to want him return, same as Sanzo. Hakkai brings a relaxed atmosphere with him which allows both men to sort of give way to those sort of emotions. But in the end, I really just see Gojyo and Hakkai together, it's a subtle sort of thing, but you can sense it none the less. Sort of like the feel of a warm, snug glove. It just feels right.
I know it's not fair to just go on a hunch, but you have to admit that Minekura really hasn't leaned in any direction as to who ought to be with who or if anyone ought to be together!
