I was thinking about buying a Carvin kit...I really want a new guitar that I can shred on, but I've never tried building anything before. Is this a good idea or should I just go buy a Schecter or something? (So basically the choices are: Carvin kit or a Schecter, probably a Damien or a Hellcat. I'm trying for something in the $400-$600 range)

What do you think? Or is there a kit I could get that's a lot better than a Carvin for the price I'm looking for? The only thing I want is a really good tremolo that won't be too hard to install by myself.

Carvin guitars are AMAZING...both sound and looks and reliablility. I almost bought one myself but my funding was very limited as i needed other gear as well. I deffinatly recommend getting a carvin guitar if possible. Have you ever listened to the band Rush? All their studio recordings were done with a Carvin guitar, so if you like that sound you'll love the guitar.

Yes, as far as kits go, Carvin is just about the best. I plan on putting one together once i get the extra cash. DO NOT buy a Saga kit, though. Pieces of s**t. . .

if you've got your heart set on a kit, deffinatly Carvin. but also check out a company called Pagan. its hard to find Pagan guitars but they sound really good and are great for shredding. plus like NOBODY plays them.
