Dane Takil vs. Eldin Desura

FIGHT!
PostPosted: Tue Jul 18, 2006 3:39 pm

There was a gust of wind at the south entrance to the arena. Some of sand got stirred up and scattered around before the six-foot figure of a man stepped over the threshold and into the place designed for battle

Tall brown travelling shoes came to a rest just inside the entrance. Red pants came from them to a black leather belt that had a gold-coloured buckle. His upper torso was protected by a sheet of chainmail which also came down his arms to just before his elbows. Over it was not only a black, sleeveless shirt of normal cloth but on top of that, over his chest and back, where two pieces of white armour plating that fit to his form with moderate thickness. They almost seemed to shine in the light. The man's lower arms were equipped with protective gauntlets of the same material as his armour. A longsword in a white, silver patterned sheath dangled from his left side, tied to his belt.

The man's face was an oddity of sorts. Slightly messy but short blond hair covered the top of it normally, but below that was mostly unseen. A red scarf with two long tails that trailed to half way past the back of his knees, once they had settled from their owner's lack of movement, was wrapped around his face and tied there scurely. The scarlet cloth came up over his nose at the center of his face, leaving very little flesh exposed; Just enough for two amber-colored eyes that sparkled with a look of calmness to be made out. A black scar could be seen running up a little from under his scarf, from the right side of his nose to stopping just above it.

Slowly his head turned, taking in the sights, before he started making his way into the new location.

'I wonder why it led me here?' he wondered quietly in his mind, referencing the earlier gust of wind which had died down while his amber orbs had soaked in the scenery around him. There seemed to be a crowd watching. That made him a little nervous, since he was just a nobody after all.

Eldin sighed and then smiled beneath his covering. If the wind had guided him to the tournament registration office so long ago then that meant he was supposed to be here. He wondered what he would learn and who he would meet; He couldn't deny that curiosity. Though he did hope his opponent would be of the more...mortally inclined variety, like himself.

Not that he was powerless. Just that he didn't enjoy battling demonic superpowers that seemed to shrug off fatal wounds like they were taps on the shoulder. Unfortunatly that seemed to be his usual type of sparring partner, so to speak.

At the thought of a certain silver-haired man who shared his first name, Eldin laughed a little and then sat down about half way towards the center of the arena. If the fight was too much he'd just forfeit. He was sure his uncle's spirit hadn't led him here to die, after all.

On the thin layer of sand Eldin assumed a cross-legged meditation style pose with his arms resting on his shins and his hands dangling almost lifelessly over the edges of his legs then closed his friendly eyes. He concentrated on his mind, his most important asset in battle. He had to make sure his focus and mental stamina were at their best. He also focused on the eight spirits within him. The beings permanently bonded to his Channeler soul as a part of himself. Though he looked like and was nearly biologically identicle to an ordinary human being, Eldin Desura was a member of the rare Channeler race. A people born with a biological sixth sense for supernatural forces. Spirits, magic, mysticism, dimensional disturbances...a feeling unique to Eldin's people detected forces like these and others like them.

Besides their minds, their souls were the only difference between them and humans. Channeler souls could bond with spiritual beings that consented to it and become one with them, sharing their power and making it a Channeler's own so long as he could maintain the mental willpower to control it. A human mind wouldn't be able to handle most of the stress the average Channeler's went through.

Eldin continued to meditate and keep himself ready. If his opponent's life force drew near he would sense it coming. Assuming his opponent had a life force, of course. That wasn't always a guarantee in this world he lived in.

Dane Takil stepped into the area with the aid of his staff. He was weak in an old person sort of way. He proceeded through the sands cursing them as they got his already ruined cloak dirty. He walked to the man he was facing peering at him with faded blue eyes between white eyebrows and white hair. His long white bear hanged down infront of him. The hat he wore might have been pointed long ago, but now it was run down and looked like it had been trampled on by a hoard of goblins followed by a bunch of trolls.

A gnarled finger pointed towards the young boy and shook involuntarily.

"You should clean that scar up, young man, it looks rather nasty..."

Eldin opened his eyes and smiled as he sensed his opponent's approach through the north gate. He stood up and dusted himself off, brushing the sand off of his crimson leggings.

Eldin heard his opponent's words and closed his eyes involuntarily as his head lowered slightly in a small chuckle. His amber gaze returned to the man with a happy shine. Mr. Takil hadn't seen anything nasty quite yet. If Eldin stripped his face and upper torso of their coverings a mass of permanently burned and scarred flesh would been seen carved across his skin in certain and unfortunatly many places. It was a truly unpleasant sight. Eldin wore the scarf that matched his pants so tightly around his mouth for the reason of not upsetting others with his appearance.

"I've tried," he said in a genuinly friendly voice. "Unfortunatly its not a...physical ailment."

The young Channeller stepped toward his assumed elder and slowly raised up his right hand in an unthreatening gesture as it sought out Dane's in greeting.

"My name is Eldin Desura. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Who? Elephant Dung? Why would you name yourself that?"

The old man cocked his ear towards the fellow, while his right arm holding the staff moved slightly to turn his body to the side. No other movement was made he just watched the fellow with his right eye.

"Sorry. I must have mumbled," he said apologetically with a an embarassed laugh. His left hand rubbe dthe back of his head nervously. He was sorry he had made such a foolish and unthoughtful mistake as to not speak up.

"My name's Eldin Desura. It's nice to meet you," he said in a louder tone now for the apparently old man's sake.

"Eldin Desura? Strange name, although not stranger than my own.."

The old mage bowed to the man, but half way down his left hand reached up and caught his old mangled hat before it fell from his head and he held it on as he rose from the bow.

"Dane.. Now, what was my last name?..."

The old man trailed into thought stepping back a few feet.

"Well, now, what am I here for?"

Deciding the handshake wasn't going to happen, Eldin took a step backwards and performed a courteous bow as well.

"You entered the Gaian Tenkaichi Budoukai. I'm you're first opponent in this combat tournament," he said as if it were a normal conversation.

"Oh, yes, yes. Right. Now! Shall we begin the fight?"

The old mage began mumbling to himself.

"Now what was that spell again? Fizzbell? Fizzball? F-something.."
PostPosted: Wed Jul 19, 2006 9:12 pm

"Of course," he said happily. Eldin started to walk several paces backwards so they had a good starting distance. Depsite the man's behaviour so far Eldin knew it didn't mean he was weak in a fight. He was in this tournament after all. Chances were that it wasn't by accident.

Though it could have been...

But either way, underestimating someone usually meant getting unnecessary pain. Eldin disliked pain.

"I think you mean 'Fireball'," Eldin called out as he began pulling out his longsword. It appeared to be made entirely of one soild piece of some slightly purple shaded but mainly grey ore merely fashioned into the shape of a sword. The white guard and hilt were likely just painted or coloured in some other fashion. The purple-hued blade itself was covered in silver lines that formed similar symbols to the ones on its sheath.

Eldin had called out when they were about ten meters apart.

"Fireball? Yes! That was it. Thank you, my boy..."

And with that, a few mutterings of some old language lost in time, and the movement of his hands: A fireball was ushered from his magical might and throw towards the boy on the other end. It was about 5 feet around shaped like a ball with a flaming trail behind it.

The old mage watched from under white eyebrows as the ball flew towards it's target.

Eldin saw the fireball approaching and...well...he already knew it was coming since he'd been the one to name it and all. His body was already prepared so he rolled to the side almost immediatly after it was cast to allow the blaze to carry past him, though he mentally prepared his defences as well just in case of something unexpected.

Eldin certainly didn't feel like hitting an old man but he was also aware that old mages tended to have a lifetime supply of magical energy. Still, that energy was usually a strain on their old bodies. Perhaps he could tire his opponent out?

"A quickun?"

The old mage stepped forward his staff trodding along the ground before he arched it downwards, picking it up from the ground, and pointed it's wooden tip at the boy. At the center of this wooden tip was a small spherecally carved crystal. The mage moved his hands just slightly and with that came the force of lightning from the sky traveling from the ground and from the air to send an electrical charge through the young boys body.

EDIT:

Eldin managed to avoid the fire spell without any new burns, it would seem. His body had enough of those already. Meanwhile Dane had started in the now once again standing Channeler's direction and moved his staff. Eldin's brain informed him of magical energy being released. It was being concentrated in the sky. That likely meant one thing to Desura: Lightning.

Logically speaking, if you want to catch someone quick...well actually the dodge before was more because of Eldin's knowledge of the attack ahead of time, but still...and you're shooting something from the sky, then lightining is the first thing that pops into this Channeler's head, who deals constantly with a look-a-like who throws electricity around at a whim.

Knowing a dodge would be useless in this case, Eldin poured out a portion of his soul's "Life Spirit" energy, the portion that once belonged to his mother but was now a part of him, and channelled the energy into the air and earth around him in a bubble-shape. A yellow and ethereal field of light would appear around him in a small but bright and concentrated flash just before the lightning struck down, harmlessly deflected off the shield of spiritual energy, though certainly not without a solid blow to the protection Eldin had raised. Still, it wasn't yet anything he couldn't handle.

'My sixth sense saved me again,' Eldin thought to himself with a very quiet laugh at his fortunate bloodline.

The old mage was surprised at the speed, but not at the defense. He nodded, stood firm along the ground waving his right hand in the air and spilling magic into the air for what purpose was unknown as of now. The magic floated around the mage, in what would seem like a loose gaseous form.
