The door creaked open and Beta flipped on the light. Doesn't look like any new children have been stranded by Alpha recently. He sighed and released the grip on the small boys hand and leaned down so he was eye level.

"Okay, two things." He held up his fingers. "One, heres your snacks, eat 'em when you get hungry." He handed a brown paper bag over to the kid who bobbled his head in response. "And two, heres some berries incase some one touches your spines." Beta pointed to the bag he just put on the short child sized table. He ruffled the kids black hair and stood up turning to go.

"If you need me I'll be right across the hall." Beta gave a short wave and closed the door behind him. Konig looked down at the bag in his hand and put it next two the other one his 'father' left him with. Adjusting his hat so he could see more then just under the brim, he tottled over to some over sized legos and began to rearange them to his liking.

Omega heard the lock on the Employees Only door snap behind her as she stood indecisively in the hall, shifting her weight indecisively from foot to foot as she bounced the young Cyndaquil boy in her arms. Kaen had yet to wake up; somehow, though, she was hardly surprised. At least he was gradually beginning to show more signs of life, waking up for progressively more time with each passing day...but still. Twenty hours of sleep cannot be healthy, especially for a growing boy.

From her shoulder there came a weak, fitful yawn; somewhere beneath her chin there exploded a sudden flare of light and warmth as the flame patches flared into all their fiery life. "Awake at last, I see," she chuckled, shifting the boy slightly so that the flames were not quite so close to her face; at least she had learned the proper way to carry him in the past few days to keep from being burned. "I'm going to go look for Alpha, okay? Let's go find a place to drop you off."

Knowing that discussion would be wasted on the half-asleep Cyndaquil, either way, Omega did the first thing that came to her mind: chose the most likely door and pushed it open. Inside was a room that appeared made for children; the tables were too small to comfortably accommodate adults, though the decor left something to be desired. "Here's a good place for you to stay; be good, all right?" And without another word, the woman placed the boy on the floor, smoothed his hair with one hand, and left, closing the door with a satisfied click behind her.

Kaen blinked sleepily at the door staring him coldly in the face, rubbing one eye with a tanned hand. Hadn't that lady been talking to him a minute ago...? Did she suddenly turn into a door? "Cyndr..." Reaching out, his fingers splayed across the cool surface. Well, it certainly didn't feel like the lady...and it didn't sound like her anymore...shrugging carelessly, the Cyndaquil boy took to his feet, stumbling further into the room on rubbery legs.

...something caught his eye. Blinking furiously, he toddled his way to a table where two bags lay abandoned. Odd...who could have left those? And what could be in them? "'Lo...?" Before checking them out for himself, he might as well check to make sure no one would get mad...golden brown eyes scoured the room blearily, searching for even meager signs of life.

Konig had ducked behind his lego wall when the strange lady had come in. Only the tips of his ears would have been visible if anyone bothered to check if there was someone else in the room. The lady had put some other kid in the room and left with out saying much at all. Well it was probably safe, the other kid was about the same size as he was.

The Nidoran boy peered out from behind his wall looking at the other odd child. He was tan and teal, how odd. Konig sniffed at the air, did he smell fire? FIRE. The other kid was on fire! Konig leaped to his feet and darted towards the other boy. He knew atleast fire was bad when it was on some one.

"Youran on fire!" He blurted charging straight at the Cyndaquil.

And he had been so hopeful that no one would answer that muffled little call.

The cry from close by actually brought the little Cyndaquil boy closer to wakefulness than he could ever remember being before, which was quite the accomplishment. Suddenly alert enough to react with anything more than a sluggish step in the face of the charging Nidoran boy, the child jumped back, dropping to the floor and hunching up. His back was warm, he knew, and growing steadily warmer...that was the fire.

And now he was worried, so they were climbing higher, roaring stronger than he remembered. "No hur!" he squeaked faintly from inside his ball. "No hur!"

"No hurt?" Konig skidded to a stop rightinfront of the curled boy, well the help of a near by chair. Though he was standing right over him and could feel the heat from the fire. His hat slid down covering his eyes from the momentum of the stop.

"Uran not hurt?" His ears perked up. "Why fire no hurt?" Konig pushed hs hat up so he could see again. Fire was suppose to hurt, this didn't make any sense.

There was no impact.

With stuttering hesitation Kaen let his arms drop, lifting his head to see the boy with the hat and huge ears. Well...the Nidoran boy didn't seem like he wanted to hurt Kaen...he was just standing there, looking down.

Kaen uncurled slowly, wavering back to his feet. "My fire," he mumbled, turning away from Konig. Mustering every ounce of concentration he didn't know he had, the Cyndaquil focused on those four fiery points of warmth, willing them to cool...

...and, lo and behold, the flames sputtered out, leaving four glowing red points. "Seequil? My fire. No hur."

"Wow, Dats cool!" That was the most amazing thing he had seen in his short little life. the Nidoran pondered how little red spots could spout fire. Then he wondered if they were cool enough to touch. "Is it still hot?" It'd probably be best not to find out. Heat hurt just as much as fire did, and that was a lesson well learned.

"I wish I could do dat, I just have spikey things on my back." He turned to point at the quills on his back. "Just dunido touch em, der pointy."
PostPosted: Tue Jul 18, 2006 12:32 pm

Kaen grinned, reaching over his shoulder to touch the closest red spot. It was still warm...but only slightly warmer than the rest of his skin. "No, not hot."

And then there came a mention of spikes. Spikey things? Kaen turned, peering at the quills poking from Konig's back. Well, that was curious...toddling closer, he reached up to touch one--

"Ooh." Indeed, they looked a bit sharp...and he didn't like sharp things. They hurt. "'pikes. Dey hur?" It was a pressing question for the Cyndaquil.

"Dey make you bleed if you touch dem, I haf to be careful" He made sure the other boy's hands weren't near one of the spikes. "okay when they're down like dat." Then he made them all bristle up on his back for a second before laying 'flat' again. "Cause they canido get bad like dat some time."

"Can you do anything else dats neat?" Konig looked hopeful. As far as he new, makeing fire on your back was pretty special.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 18, 2006 1:19 pm

"Da wou' hur." Kaen jerked back as the spikes bristled dangerously outward, the spots on his back sending weak flames shooting back into life. That trick was certainly unexpected! "Wow, nea! Do i' 'gain?" Whereas Konig seemed amused by the Cyndaquil's flame, Kaen was thrilled by this Nidoran boy's rising and flattening quills.

Kaen had to think for a moment. Could he do anything else that was reasonably interesting? He thought for a moment, hands twitching down to clutch at the material of his shorts. What was it that lady had said...?

"Lady tinks I breef fire." Nodding vigorously, he pointed at his throat. "I do'know, dough." Because he couldn't remember ever breathing fire...though he could always try. Was it any different than making his back flare up on command...?

...oh, wait. He couldn't do that yet. Hmm. Maybe that would be harder than he thought. "You do other trickqwyll?"

"Yea ok" The quills stood on edge again in their menacing sharpness before falling back down. Konig didn't see how that was so amusing, all it was the spikes moving up and down. Fire from nothing was more exciting.

"Dats too bad. It would be neat though." He really wanted to see the other kid cough up fire, course that probably wasn't the best idea to do inside. It might even set off the sprinkler system.

Other tricks? Well there was one thing. "I canido move my ears around." One ear flicked back while the other one pricked straight up. He did a couple of other combinations before letting hem go back to neutral."Oh i haf a hornido my head." He remove his hat and pointed at the stubby horn sticking out between locks of hair.

...well, if this kid thought it would be neat...it was worth a try, right? Kaen breathed deeply, thinking about the fire on his back when he woke up, of its heat and its smell and its touch...and tried to imagine that in his throat as he exhaled.

The result was less than spectacular, as might be imagined. The Cyndaquil boy doubled over in a fit of hacking coughs, puffs of smoke and the first sparks of combustion filling the air around him for a moment before everything cleared again. "Da' hur," he wheezed. Apparently fire was not meant to come out of little boy's throats.

But then there came the display of the ears. Oh, yeah. Now here was a kid who could hold Kaen's attention. Lots of motion, little sound...the Cyndaquil watched, enraptured by the motion of those massive pink satellites, sorely tempted to reach out and touch one as it flicked down. "Neeeeeeeeeeeeeat..." He sighed as he touched one of his own ears; there was no way he could pull off a trick like that with such little things. "You hear betterqwyl?"

The horn poking out of Konig's forehead was immediately labeled the mystery of the century in Kaen's little book. In an instant he was just a few inches away, staring at the little spike among all that hair. "Oooh...how'd i' get there? Is i' charp? Wou' i' hur?"

...unfortunately, Kaen's budding curiosity got the better of him. Rather than listen to that shrill little voice called reason in the back of his tiny mind, he tapped the nub experimentally with one finger.

"Oh dats too bad." Konig pused for a moment trying to think of what the other boy had coughed up instead of fire. "Ta smoke was neat though. But don't do it if it hurts." Nobody liked pain and its not like he could force the other boy to do it anymore anyways.

"Ya I hearan things my Pa can't hear." He grabed one of his oversized pink ears. "Dey get inido the way sometimes though or people pull at em hard."He stuck out his tounge as he mimiced the way random strangers would grab at his ears to see if they were real.

"I dunno, I always had it." Konig looked crossed up at the horn not really paying attention to Kaens apparent suddent interst in it. Before he knew it he felt the other boy's hot little hand poking it.

"Ah!" Konig ducked away. The horn wasn't as sharp as his quills but it was still poisonous. "No touch!" He would have shreiked if he hadn't disliked loud noises. Instead it was simply louder then he had been talking. His hands went up and covered the horn.

Kaen lifted his head, fingers touching his neck experimentally, remarkably careful and ginger. His throat hurt down there; that was certainly not the best idea...but touching it didn't seem to make it worse. Breathing did, but that was another matter entirely. "Icky smoke," he mumbled, sticking his tongue out at the sooty residue left on his hands after that fit of violent smoky coughing. But at least Konig had good advice; it would be a long time before Kaen tried that trick again.

...or at least until he forgot what that pain was like.

Kaen nodded almost solemnly in understanding of the Nidoran boy's misery. "People are mean," he mumbled, remembering the raucous crowds that followed him and the lady that one day with the water from the sky. They were all so loud and they wanted to poke at him and talk to him when all he wanted to do was sleep.

As Konig ducked away, Kaen took a good long look at his fingertip. The skin was slightly dented, but it remained unbroken; no blood welled in the tiny indentation from that horn. The Nidoran boy's panic was enough to tell Kaen that he had done something wrong, though, and he hunched his shoulders apologetically. "Sowwy," he whimpered. "I was cooius." He really hadn't meant to upset the boy...the red patches on his back flared up suddenly, flickering faintly across his skin. "Sowwy..."

"It okay, it don't hurt." Konig removed his hands. He picked up the hat off the floor which he had dropped in panic and placed it back on his head. "It po-poisionus. It make you feel bad if it make you bleed." Kaen had been luck not to break his skin. " I hurt Pa dat way once."

His ears drooped. He remembered that day well when he accidently rammed into Beta's leg. That was not a pretty memory and Konig rather not have another adult made at him. Alpha already despised him as it was. The short attention span though quickly changed his mood. He moved over to one of his paper bags and pulled something from it.

"Here dis will make you feel betteran." It was one of the antidote berries, but as far as he was concerned it made you feel better no matter your ailement. "Its sweet like cookie."
