Here is the profile sheet that you will use for your character. The various headings in the sheet will be explained in later posts. It is provided in code form for convenience.

Stuff in italics are Kenkaru's original words quoted because they are important, or just awesome >_>

Note: We also have the shorthand/longhand profile system, where the shorthand goes in the shinobi scroll, and links to the longhand in the Shinobi Directory subforum. This system was trialed in Konoha, but has been extended to the rest of the guild. If this profile sheet isn't detailed or pretty enough for your tastes, you're welcome to use the other one! For all purposes and intents, though, this sheet is sufficient.

Step One: "Thinking of a Character"

The first thing to do is brainstorming what kind of character you want to create. Create a small model in your head and slowly dress it: give it a personality, backgroundand a life. Depending on the idea you must select a village that you think suits your character's needs and background. Also keep in mind that a good character is not a strong one but a flavored one. So giving details to your character might make it more entertaining when role-playing it. A one-dimensional character is no fun in the RP. Also keep in mind that your character must be your own, not some bad imitation of a character you saw on another anime or one character in the actual series. Please try to keep is not cliched; we don't like Sasuke ripoffs.

Step Two: Contact the Village Kage:

Once you have the idea of what your character is going to be like, please send a PM to the person that is the leader of the village you are joining. The list of Kages can be found in the "Village Status Thread" located in the main forum. Also try to remember that some villages are not accepting people all the time due to a lack of Jounins or plots that are taking place at the time.

Step Three: Starting the Profile.

If you have received the say-so, or even if you haven't and just want to start the profile, we'll now introduce the various headings here!

First is the personal information:

Username: Self explanatory

Posting: How often do you post?

Time Zone: This is to make it easier for your Kage to put you with other people in the same time zone, when assigning teams or missions.

Step Four: Character Data.

~Character Data~

Next is basic character information:

Name: Self explanatory. Make sure to indicate which is the surname (especially if you are using the eastern form of writing names)!

Village: Again, self explanatory. Make sure you have permission.

Clan/Bloodline: If your clan has special bonuses, put them here! Of course, if you have a made-up bloodline/clan of your own you will have to get it approved in the Bloodlines subforum.

Element Affinity: You can have up to two. Skilled shinobi usually master ninjutsu of a second elemental family in their lifetime, especially if they choose to specialise in ninjutsu. Depending on your affinity, there are different Jutsu you can master.

Age: Please keep this reasonable unless your background matches it. We don't like 40-year old Academy Students, and nor do we want 5 year-old Jounins! Academy Students are 8-12 years old and Genin are typically 12-14. Jounin cannot be younger than 17. We have time skips occasionally to increase ages, so don't worry if you're playing an initially young character. He'll grow up soon enough!

Gender: Male, Female, or Haku. ninja Just kidding. Unless you really want to create a half man half woman.

Rank: Everyone starts at Academy Student rank unless given permission.

Step Five: Character Appearance.

~Appearance~

Now we're really going to flesh out your character:

Headband: This is where your headband is, simple enough. And the colour of the cloth and does your character wear it in a special way? Of course, you need to be a Genin first.

Height: Again, please keep this reasonable.

Weight: This should be kept believable too! And it should match with the height, unless you want to be obese... or anorexic...

Hair: Describe your character's hair. Hair colour and length is a must. Also, is it straight, curly or wavy? Does your character have a mohawk or is the hair unevenly chopped, or is it layered? Is it dyed and is it healthy?

Eyes: Your character's eyes. Unless you are super good, this obviously won't be too long, but don't miss out on the essentials like colour, size and expression. You could even comment on the length of the eyelashes, and makeup your character wears if any! Also, doujutsu descriptions go here.

Physical Description: Body type, skin and well a general description of how he looks goes here. Is your character fat, stocky or thin? If your character works out and is physically strong he should have large muscles. And you could even comment on breast size for females. Is your character pale from studying all day indoors or has the outdoor training given him a tan? Also note any scars, tattoos, seals, piercings and birthmarks. You should also describe your character's face and general looks! For example, does he have perfect teeth, and what about his nose?

Clothing: Obviously describe your character's clothes! Remember to keep them practical for ninja fighting.

Background: Your character's past. How did he or she end up in the village? Has he or she had a gasp, horrible past, or has relatively nothing happened to him or her? Please try to keep it not cliched. No bad "my brother killed my clan I hate everyone" or "ahhh I'm a psycho - woe!"
If you need more help thinking of an original background, feel free to ask the Crew or just ask around in the Chatterbox. Here is some advice from a former Crew member:

Quote:
So you need help with coming up with a background? Well first you should think of something basic. What kind of character do you want? Male female, and also who were his/her parents? It helps with coming up with a character as well. XD I think of things in whole parts, everything reflects the other. Your background will have a huge part in making your character's personality. If you start with who the parents were, it is easier to see what type of family the character had, what he/she was surrounded by and how he/she was treated. Things go from there.

You have the childhood of the character, now just think of one thing to happen to them when they are a bit older. Considering where they come from, what is the most likely thing to happen to them? More than likely the only thing that comes to mind now is something bad, like...a near death experience or something but NO. It doesn't have to be that severe to have a big influence on the character. Think of something different, don't make an overused scenario. Perhaps when they went on a picnic with a friend, and that friend ended up having an awesome time and became best friends later on only to find out that their friend had to move? It would be original and it would give the character a bit more of a realistic feel. Who wouldn't be sad and affected by their first and best friend moving? ^_^

Personality: How your character will act. Is he always happy or grumpy or a mixture of both. What does he think of other people and what type of people does he hate the most? You can also put his ambitions and hopes for the future.

Other: Miscellaneous things that don't really fit anywhere else, like sexual orientation, for example.

Step six: Jutsus and Missions.

Missions: Keep these blank for now, but add to them once you finish missions!

Jutsu: In here keep a record of what Jutsu/techniques your character knows.

Summoning Contract: If your character has a summoning contract, record it here. If you want to gain one, you will have to go on a quest and be at least level 5. Ask the Crew for more help.

Step Seven: Stats

Now for the stats. This bit really gets some people confused so read carefully! This is just a run-through introduction of the stats, so for a more detailed guide on the Abilities please check the 'Abilities' thread.

Think of them like characteristics. If your character is more of the hit first, ask questions later kind of person then of course more points would be put on Strength than on Intelligence. To try to even out your character when you character is obviously not an all around person would seem unrealistic.

If you have questions about this part of the character creation process please don't hestitate to ask the Crew!

Level: Academy Students start at level 1, and for any other rank check the table below.

Experience: This is how much experience you have. When you reach the end of the bar (100/100) you will Level Up. (Refer to the 'Training and Levels' thread for further information regarding leveling.)

Hp: This and the below two can only be filled in after you do your stats. We only place them before the stats in your profile because it looks neater that way. Your hit points basically measure your endurance in battle. When your Hp reaches 0, your character faints. Your starting Hp is [10 + constitution modifier] x level. To read about modifiers, please check the 'What is d20?' thread. When you level up, you have to recalculate your Hp (please check the Training and Levels thread for more info). You also recalculate your Hp when your constitution modifier increases.

Cp: Your chakra points, or the WotN equivalent of mana, PP etc. in video games. Basically, this measures how much spiritual energy or chakra your character has left to perform techniques, or Jutsu. Your starting Cp is [10 + chakra modifier] x level. When you level up, you have to recalculate your Cp. You also recalculate your Cp when your chakra modifier increases.

MHp: Your mental health points. Calculated with the formula [10 + wisdom modifier] x level, this is basically your HP against Genjutsu and mental attacks. When you level up, you have to recalculate your MHp. You also recalculate your MHp when your wisdom modifier increases.

Abilities

As a student, you start with 6 in all your abilities (base points) and have 20 points to distribute amongst them.

Strength: This measures your raw physical power and affects your hand-to-hand Taijutsu damage.
Dexterity: This measures how agile you are, as well as your coordination skills and reaction time. This affects your dodge bonus and your ranged damage.
Constitution: This is how hardy you are and how much you can endure. This affects your Hp.
Intelligence: This is how smart you are in terms of knowledge. A higher Intelligence allows you to learn techniques faster.
Wisdom: This measures your instinct, as well as your aptitude to survive in the wild. This affects your MHp {mental health} and also your dodge bonus.
Charisma: This is how good your social skills are. Charisma is vital to successful interaction with NPCs and completion of missions.
Chakra: This measures your reserves of chakra. This affects your Cp.

Dodge Bonus: How hard it is to hit you. Attacking and dodging is explained in another thread so I won't go into detail, but in order to obtain your dodge bonus all you need to do is Lvl + wisdom modifier + dexterity modifier.

Please check the "What is d20?" thread or scroll down for an explanation on modifiers.

**If you are starting at a rank higher than student, especially if you are starting at Jounin or above, please remember that we have stat and skill caps for distributable points (highest number the stat/skill can be at).

The distributable stat points cap is level + 20.
The distributable skill points cap is level + 20.

Cont. Of Step Seven: Explaining Base points, points for distribution, and modifiers

Base Points: Base points are simple, they are the numbers that your abilities (remember abilities refer to the seven characteristics I explained: Strength, Dexterity, Chakra, Constitution, Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma) start at before putting any points to them. So say you were starting at as a student. Then your base stats would be 6 before you put any points to them.

Points for Distribution: Points for Distribution are the amount of points you get to distribute to the seven stats. Meaning as a student you get 20 points for distribution. If you wanted to put five points on Strength it would now be at 11 (since base points is 6 for student) and you would have 15 points left for distribution.

Modifiers: Modifiers are something you figure out after distributing all your points. This is used when performing skills, figuring out saving throws, melee/ranged attacks, when leveling up, as well as other things. Therefore, you must know this in order to do anything in this guild. Modifiers are obtained through a simple equation.

[ability - 10]/2 rounded DOWN.

So say that for example you are that student that I mentioned earlier with the 11 in strength. The equation would work out like this: (11-10) = 1/2 = 0.5. Rounding it down equals +0. If the student had a 12 instead he or she would of had a +1 instead of a +0 for a modifier.

Do not think that all modifiers automatically have a + in front of them. If that student had decided that he or she didn't care for strength and only put 2 points on it leaving him or her with a 8 in it for example, the equation would have come out differently. It would have come out like this:

(8-10) = -2/2 = -1.

Thus, he or she would have had a -1 modifier in the modifier for Strength and that would ultimately affect basic Taijutsu capabilities.

Now for students we understand that some of your stats' modifiers will indeed come out negative, this is to be expected however. As a Student, you are supposed to be well cruddy. You can't expect to be to awesome when first starting out now can you. That’s about it for your stats.
