Sometimes I just want to flame people, especially when they're being ignorant and abrasive. However, I know they have won when I do that, so, I tend not to. Occasionally I'll get terse, but I really try hard not to!
So, what I do instead is adblock their signature images. It only takes a second, is extremely satisfying at the most childish level, and avoids a silly row in a public forum.
What do you do to exercise self control while on the boards? heart

Being the owner of a charity shop, I've seen just about everything there is to see, I think. I have a tough skin and to my recollection, I have only ONCE lost my temper here on Gaia- And that was years ago. I tend to just remind myself how much those self-important "know it all" flamers annoy me and that makes me not want to be one. And of course, I try to remember that I'm a lot older than many other gaians and young people are just plain annoying sometimes. lol

*shakes her cane* Those whippersnappers!
Actually, I don't know if it's because I got that off my chest, or it's really happening, but everyone seems to polite and nice lately. Except one kid, who was rude to me, while I was trying to help him out, but then he apologized when I didn't get mad. 3nodding

Gah! I sat down the other day and was typing a nice long response when my computer went kaput on me. stressed Okay, let me see if I can sum it all up again lol.
Isn't it funny how that happens? I think most people would be suprised how far a little bit of patience can take you. Then again, it's not the best thing to hold it all in all the time either...
And I have to agree, people do seem to be nice lately. Even at TCS, the newbies are reading the rules and being very sweet about donations etc. Maybe the youngsters are having a great summer or something, and all the older people are checking gaia out? I thought it would be the opposite though... Maybe it's because of all the BS going on in the world right now, people are learning the value of getting along with their fellow human?

I wonder (hope) if our values are starting to swing away from "looking out for number 1" and back to "every stone thrown causes a ripple (which incidentally can turn into a tsunami that can actually wipe out number one along with aught else)"?

I think that the young'ins are starting to realize that begging loudly, and being annoying isa not the way to suceed on Gaia, and in tern, in life. I strongly believe that Gaia reflects government, and society. If you are nice to your fellow human, and co-exsist in peace, you can reach evan the toughest goals! now all we need is the government to behave the same way. 3nodding i'm proud of the youngsters.

I haven't got the guts to see if the young'ins are really getting along in the big forums. sweatdrop I left gaia's forums long ago because I didn't liked how some of the users were treating each other at the time. Perhaps I was just in the bad side of the forums, I dunno. I hope everything has gotten better since I left. ninja

It does seem like things have calmed down a bit though, doesn't it? I'm starting to branch out and check out the other forums a bit, and something I've learned is that it takes just one person to change the tide of a conversation that's going the wrong way. Maybe Gaians just don't feel like they have as much to prove these days or something.

When I get frustrated with someone's behaviour on the boards, I just remind myself that they probably don't know better, will eventually grow out of it, and then I draw a poorly rendered picture of their avvie getting eaten by Cerberus.
It's therapeutic. surprised
But then, I'm rarely in the forums except to ad my Guild and join a friend's thread... Is it still really bad out there? I sometimes wonder, since I rarely see flamers anymore.

In general, I do my best to remember that I play Gaia for fun, so if someone has offended me or is stressing me out, I should just walk away or ignore them; I have so little "me" time as it is, I don't need to get worked up over some fool with nothing better to do than psoil someone else's fun.
In the end...people like that are just hurting themselves, so there's no sense worrying over other people's meanness. You can't be responsible for anyone's feelings but your own, so I think it's important just to relax and try and have fun.
I also studiously avoid the ED, which seems to be full of misogynist meanies, heheheh heart .

I usually try and stay away from anywhere that a fight might break out, or potentially have some nasty Gaians there. ....Such as the General Discussion forum, most of the time I find people to be so rude. I just don`t do well when people are at upset with me, I hate discord. -_-;
However, I have been caught in my guilds before where I`ve been in a few fights but instead of losing my temper and yelling back at them I simply do some research about the subject that we`re fighting about and show them where I am supported and why I still feel I am right. 3nodding
For those kind of issues where it isn`t on a topic so much as it is about you and why they have a problem with you I just tell them to get bent. ninja I guess that sounds mean huh? But I am no door mat either, I am not afraid to stand up for myself, even if it comes out mean.

I tend to just avoid most of the forums and I stick mainly to guilds. But when I do encounter someone being rude I just remember my waitressing days and kill them with kindness (and kill them in any way I wish in my head). rofl

I used to get pretty bent, too. but I guess some people here are still in the process of figuring it out. I have generation shock, at times, but whatever, eh? I remember being pretty abrasive in my teens.
