Apparently, this weeks episode got about 7 million viewers. Which is up from last week.

Next week's the biggie, though.

EXTERMINATE!

WHEN THE DALEKS APPEAR ON THE SCREEN, ALL LESSER PROGRAMMES WILL BE EXTERMINATED!

EX-TER-MIN-ATE!! EX-TER-MIN-ATE!!

(Please excuse the shouting, I was just trying to type in a proper Dalek voice.)

It looks like the BBC may just have a hit show on their hands:

Quote:
The preliminary overnight ratings for World War Three are in: 7.3 million people watched the episode last evening. More importantly, "Doctor Who" shattered its competition: the first installment of ITV's "Celebrity Wrestling" only received 3.8 million viewers, a significant drop (of over 50%) from the previous ITV occupant of the time slot, "Ant and Dec." ViewingFigures doesn't have the regular overnights up yet, for some reason; these figures come from reports on the Outpost Gallifrey Forum by the editors of "Doctor Who Magazine".

Update 24 April 1830 GMT: "Doctor Who" averaged a more precise 7.26 million viewers with an audience share of 38.0%, peaking at 7.90 million viewers during the broadcast. "Celebrity Wrestling" averaged 3.8 million as noted, peaking at 4.3 million, audience share 20.8%. "Doctor Who" in fact had the highest audience share of the whole of Saturday, day and night, and was second only to "Casualty" in total ratings. (Thanks to Ian Levine, Steve Berry, Tom Spilsbury)

Again quoting from Outpost Gallifrey. If the ratings continue to be this high, the series may well last another 26 years ^_^

Excellent news that ITV just can't compete with the Doctor, and are guaranteed to fall before the Daleks. biggrin

What I find interesting is that Channel 4 has the network TV premier of LotR: Fellowship of the Ring on Saturday and has scheduled it to start at 7:45.

Even one of the biggest films of the past few years is no match for the Daleks

Sounds like someone's desperate to challenge Doctor Who's No.1 ratings position. However, they picked the wrong week to do so ^_^ Besides, there are only two more LotR films, and SEVEN new episodes of Doctor Who left for the season. I think they may be in trouble ^_^

Sorry. I meant to point out that Dr Who finishes at 7:45. So they've scheduled the film to start after the programme finishes.

My bad.

Ah. So they're trying to get people to tune in to LotR rather than Doctor Who Confidential, then. That makes a bit more sense. It's also a bit interesting that they chose not to compete with the show itself, even with such a huge draw as Fellowship of the Ring......

From Outpost Gallifrey:

Quote:
The initial overnight ratings are in for Dalek, episode six of the new series broadcast Saturday night... and it's great news! "Dalek" was not only the top of its time slot for the evening, with an average viewership of 7.83 million viewers and a 42.73% viewer share, but was in fact the most watched British television show on Saturday, day or night! The episode peaked at 8.73 million viewers (45.9% share). Its competition on ITV, "Celebrity Wrestling," scores 3.05 million viewers, 17.73% viewer share. The usual Saturday night ratings winner, "Casualty," had 7.3 million viewers, leaving it in second place for the evening. As usual, these ratings will be adjusted next week when the BARB releases its final viewing numbers for the night. (Thanks to Steve Berry, Keith Armstrong, Roger Anderson)

As the Ninth Doctor would say, fantastic! Given the curiosity about the return of a cultural phenomenon, I can't say I'm surprised. 42% viewer share--isn't that higher than "Rose"'s?

As I managed to watch this episode last night (thanks to a generous friend with broadband), I can see why it was so high in the ratings--it's one of the best episodes of Doctor Who I've seen--EVER.

From Outpost Gallifrey:

Quote:
Overnight ratings are in for The Long Game, the seventh transmitted episode of Doctor Who in the UK. "Doctor Who" averaged 7.51 million viewers throughout the evening with a 38.9% share of the viewing audience. Its ITV competitor, "Celebrity Wrestling," continued its nosedive with only 2.56 million viewers (14.1% share). "Doctor Who" peaked in the last 15 minutes to 8.28 million viewers, and actually had the largest audience share of Saturday night even though more viewers tuned into "Casualty" (8.04 million viewers, but only a 35.8% share of the audience at the time.)

It looks like the Doctor's still doing quite well in the ratings, thankfully.

Well, ITV have canned Celebrity Wrestling. Just as well, as it was a s**t idea IMHO.

And, just to prove how desperate they are to beat The Doctor, this week they are putting Star Wars up against it.

This is another one of those stupid ideas like LOTR o.O Anybody who wants to see it is gonna have the special edition boxset by now and that comes prepackaged without adverts so...I doubt it's going to seriously affect the ratings somehow xD

It looks like Doctor Who is continuing to lead the ratings, acording to Outpost Gallifrey:

Quote:
Father's Day has scored big... 7,471,900 viewers according to the overnights, with an impressive 42.74% of the audience share for the episode. The ITV installment of "Celebrity Wrestling" had only 2.3 million viewers with a 14.2% ratings share. It's an enormous win for "Doctor Who" as the viewers stay equal but the audience percentages get larger. More details soon... (Thanks to Neal Douglas, Nev Fountain)

It looks like Doctor Who is once again Britain's most beloved Saturday-evening show......
