I was just running through some thoughts the other day when it suddenly dawned on me that despite the way I act, dress and speak and what I've been told, I'm not a hippy. I am a pacifist though. I'm not interested in spirituality, poetry or art or anything like that. I care a lot about the rights of animals and people and the environment and I attend anti-war rallies and such. However I don't do any drugs, and never plan to, although I know that doesn't make you a hippy if you do drugs.
So what I've been thinking is this:
1. Am I a hippy or am I not?
2. What really makes you a hippy?

I've had to explain this so much man, didn't figure I'd have to explain it here.
Hippie ain't about no drugs, or clothes, or interests.
You aren't a hippie if you believe in violence. And thats the truth. Hippie is a philisophical approach to life which emphasizes peace, love, freedom, and respect towards life, and the earth. (Thank you Skip Stone)
So, maaan, it's not about the drugs, the tiedye, or any of that s**t.
If you think you're a hippie cause you wear tyedie, you're a weekend freak, and you aint a real hippie, if'n you dont have that philisophical approach to life.
And man, fashion is just a tool of the capitalist government, The hippie "fashion" was the anti-fashion. Wearing what you wanted. Many of them just WANTED to wear tyedie. But the capitalist government exploited the hippies, and made them look evil, man. And then they took our freedom to wear what we wanted, and took our happiness, and what we wanted to wear became a fashion. That ain't too cool. So wear what you want, even if it is a fashion, just don't do it cause it's fashion. Off topic now. And maaan, most others on God + Goddess' green earth, treat hippies like s**t, and they don't even know what hippies are. So like, don't listen to people man.
Search YOURSELF. And don't give up the fight man.
Don't treat hippie like a high school stereotype if you please. We are a nation of free people, not a clique. At least, not a clique in MY opinion.

I love this guild lol. No, but seriously, this guild has many people like me...although it also has many people in here like how Peace Love and Skate described above as not hippie. But the people that are truly hippie think deeply and are at peace with themselves, and thus try to bring peace to those around them, man. And as I stated in one of my topics, hippies are not the stereotypical pot smoking long haired retard you see in the media. People should not calssify you as a hippie, nor should you label yourself. You should look within you and believe in your hippieness... and if you realize your not a hippie, then that's cool too, man... Be who you are.

I like to think I hold many of the hippie ideals, but I don't classify myself as a hippie. Maybe I just don't want to give myself enough credit?

this is just because you cannot prove you are a hippie, or an emo person. so saying that you are either would be a big waste of time... just like this post that i'm writing to you... ninja

The whole "Hippies dont call themselves hippies" is retarted. So is the "true punks dotn call themselves punks." Basically its a paradox. "I'm a punk, cause I dont call myself a punk" doesnt make sense. Jesus Christ.

I know same here everyone calls me a Hippie. But I think they know me well enough, that I'm not the sterotypical hippie, I don't and never will do drugs.
They call me a hippie, because of my fashion sence. And that I am Very much a Animal Right and Human rights activist. I Help in protecting the Rainforest and I do my part in making sure people use the Blue Recycle Bin in the class room for there pieces of paper. I know not everyone is a "Hippie" who wants to do there part in Saving the Earth, Animals, and Humans, but thats what I do and people at school see me as a Hippy.
Well I do call myself one and I am proud to be one and do my part to Protect the Earth for Future generations!

Alot of people at my school think if they smoke pot than that makes them a hippy. rolleyes Really aggrivates me...
Personally, I don't do drugs. I'm not against it, it's just it never really occured to me to do them and I don't have the time. If you met me in real life, you'd probably not think "hippy" when you saw me. But if you sat down and talked with me or just leafed through my mailbox, you'd know. I'm a vegetarian, envirnmentalist who does yoga and has an interest in Eastern religions. I'm a pacifist. If all that doesn't make me a hippy then I don't know what does.

i've done the drug thing... it made me the pot smoking hippie of my group... im doing the not drug thing... i have a level of me that feels for the come ideal from none-hippies and i can come to terms with the people that stay clean and are branded hippies... im enjoying the not grug thing more because i can think and im responsive to input... its a nice feeling to be human again...
