Bad things like what? You need to be a bit more specific.

As a whole, I'd say flat out that Japan is far safer than America on the whole, but like any place in the world, you have to not be a dumbass about what you are doing. There are obviously places that you shouldn't go and the like.
If you haven't run into a drug deal where you are living now, I will put the probability of you running into one when you are in Japan at a lower percentage. Doesn't mean its not going to happen-- so take that to mind.

Japan's a bit safer for you if you're a male teenager than female -- When I went to school in Japan for a week, the two long-term exchange students, from New Zealand and Germany, had both almost run into trouble a few times with some horny Japanese businessmen. Which is rather unnerving, actually. Apparently both of them had been followed before. Stephanie, the New Zealand student, had also had run into trouble with a drug dealer. Haha, the thing with that, though? He was a black dude from America.
From what I was able to perceive and from what I've heard, despite things like I mentioned above, Japan is most definitely safer than America. Like any place that's not inherently dangerous, just keep your whits about you and you'll be fine.

i know Japan craks down hard core when it comes to drugs. so i don't think it's that a big problem...and if you gwt caugth with drug, your a** is grass but it all depends on where you are in Japan. Like Roppongi in Tokyo i hear has a small crime problem. Ueno Park at Night... Big Cities in genaral... more Tokyo, maybe a bit Kyoto. i haven't heard much about Osaka/ Kobe I was in Kobe walking around at night by the beach by the Great Kobe Bridge with two other Girls and felt safe...the thoght hit us after a while like "dude, we sooo couldn't do this in America."
If it's more in the contryside, then it's totaly safe. I lived with my host family in one of the countysides "big cities" in Hyogo prefecter, and they don't even lock thier door. and all the have for a front door is a silding door with a hook latch for a lock.
Japan is relitivle safe for teens...as long as you ues common sence of coaurse ^^

I guess the only sure way is to go yourself and experience Japan first hand. Anyways, my friend Lily said that girls shouldn't wear skirts because a lot of guys try to flip it up.

Ueno park is dangerous at night? I would have never guessed when I visited it there.
Naturally it's a little bit more safer but that was because Japanese also have different morals. They have cigerrate machines that teenagers can access but they would never as it would make them look really bad and plus they don't need to be smoking, they need to be studying and stuff. I'm sure they do have their share of drugs and such, just as Americans do, but probally not to the extent as we do.
