Well, considering how this forum is currently lacking in informative threads, I thought that I'd get things started around here to try and prevent as much chaotic confusion as possible.
Q: What are Otherkin?
A: There are many answers to that one. The most common answer would be someone who believes that their soul is not a human soul, or is heavily influenced by a past life as a non-human entity.
Q: So Otherkin are these creatures?
A: In spirit, yes. Evidentally they are not so in body. They're human on the outside just like everyone else.
Q: What about Furries? Are they Otherkin?
A: That one is a matter of perspective, in my opinion. The boundaries as to what are and are not considered Otherkin are constantly being thrown up in the air. Some people consider HLVs(Human Living Vampires) to be Otherkin, whilst others do not. Though, I once read on a message board, someone had once said that "All Therians are Furries, but not all Furries are Therians." ..if that makes sense at all.
Q: Cool! What are these Vampires you talked about? Are they Immortal? Do they have special powers? Where can I find one? Can I become one?
A: *slaps forehead* I knew this was going to happen sooner or later..Vampires(or HLVs, as I tend to refer to them), are basically just NORMAL people with an energy deficiency who require to take in energy from an outside source in order to maintain their well-being. THEY ARE NOT IMMORTAL, THEY DO NOT HAVE EXTENDING FANGS, THEY CAN'T FLY AND NO, YOU CAN'T BE TURNED INTO ONE..That was capitalized for emphasis, as many people seem to ignore these things and live with a distorted perception of what vampirism because the reality of it isn't romantic. And it's not. I'm going to create another thread dedicated to Vampirism in order to clarify any other questions on that topic. It would take up too much space if I were to elaborate on it here.
Q: What's a Therian?
A: Someone who feels that their soul is that of an animal which can be found on earth. Common theriotypes are Wolves and large cats like Tigers.
Q: What's a Theriotype?
A: By using the word Theriotype, I'm technically using outdated terminology as not many seem to use it these days. It's the same thing as a Kintype.
Q:What's a Kintype?
A: The type of Otherkin that a person is. Which could, in essence, be just about anything from a domestic cat to a dragon.
Q: What the..An Angel Otherkin who isn't a religious Catholic/Christian?
A: Eh, it happens. Angelkin aren't always religious bible thumpers. Not saying that some aren't, as Otherkin can come from all walks of life and such. But, being Angelkin doesn't mean that you're a devout Christian. I've met a Pagan Angelkin before. I'd say that there are plenty of Atheist Angelkin too.(NOTE: I said Atheist, not Agnostic. Contrary to popular belief, Atheists believe there's something out there but they don't believe in religion. Agnostics don't believe in religion nor the concept that there's a Divine foce out there somewhere.). Besides, Angels are found in LOTS of religions, and not only in the Christian Bible. 3nodding
Q: What's an Awakening?
A: The period of transition during which an Otherkin realizes that they are Otherkin.
Q: That Angelkin said their wings were bothering them and that Therian said that their tail was bothering them. I thought you said that they were human!
A: THEY ARE!! They're just talking about Phantom limbs.
Q: Phantom limbs? What are they?
A: They are the sensation of a limb that is not there. Much like how someone with an amputation will still feel the presence of the limb that they had lost for awhile after they lost it, even though it's not there anymore..Some Otherkin feel the limbs of their Kinselves in the form of phantom limbs. These limbs can be uncomfortable, awkward or painful, but are not always.
More to be added as I think about it..or as it is suggested to me..
