The Red Hand of Doom

This thread will be the place the Red Hand of Doom super-adventure will be played out. Please do not post here unless you are one of the PCs.

The Story

A danger from out of history is rising to threaten the peaceful people of the Elsir Vale. While they do not know it yet, the denizens of the Vale face an onslaught of fire and steel the likes of which few have ever seen. Will the PCs be able to save the people, or will the region be reduced to graves and ashes?

A while ago, the PCs defeated a chimera that had been assaulting the seaside town of Mandae, which is located on the eastern coast of the great continent of Adwerrawyn. In the beast's cave, they found a map that spoke of a hidden treasure vault in a place called Vraath Keep. The Keep, the map showed the PCs, was located in a forest called the Witchwood at the western end of the Elsir Vale and in the shadow of the Wyrmsmoke Mountains.

The PCs, following the map's directions, travelled west across the Golden Plains, a vast, rock-littered badland of flats and mesas, towards the Elsir Vale. The Plains were a waterless and inhospitable wilderness which posed a formidable trail, but the PCs were able to travel along the long road known as the Dawn Way with a merchant's caravan heading to Dennovar, a trade-city located at the eastern end of the Elsir Vale on the shores of Lake Ern.

The PCs didn't stay long in Dennovar, for Drellin's Ferry, the town at the western end of the Vale and the settlement nearest to Vraath Keep, was still many days away. Over the next two weeks, they traveled the entire 185 miles or so along the Dawn Way to Drellin's Ferry from Dennovar and now are less than half a day away from the small town.

-- When combat begins (or at any point when time starts being measured in rounds) only post when it is your turn to act.
-- When casting a spell, please tell me the save DC (if any) to save time. Also, be sure to study your spells and understand how to use them.

Hints
--Make friends with the good NPCs. You never know, they might help you when you really need it.
--Killing an enemy might not be the best idea. Sometimes a live enemy will be more valuable than a dead one, especially if you interrogate them.
--Use detect magic a lot on valuable-looking things and get a bunch of scrolls of identify. There's a lot of magic items in this campaign.
--Sometimes you need to run if you want to live to fight again another day. But don't be cowards!
--There is the possibility that your character may die in this adventure. So, spellcasters, choose your spells wisely.

PART I - SCENE ONE

The afternoon sun beats down on you; the air is hot and still. The sparsely settled lands of Elsir Vale are starting to grow monotonous, with a seemingly endless line of dusty flyspecks of towns. The town of Drellin's Ferry lies a few miles ahead of you. It's a settlement hard on the borders of the Witchwood, and the best place from which to begin exploring the nearby forest.

((take this time to introduce your characters, ect))

"We should hurry," Gloria looks over the group of restless travelers that she has accompanied on there journeys. She probably couldn't join them on her own account, but as orders from her mighty god, Heironeous, she has no choice. "We'll be there soon, and maybe we can have a decent meal." She stares back to the horizon, seeing a faded silohuette of a the town. "Besides, eating rations all the time isn't what I'd call luxurious," stare she murmurs under her breath.

"Yes, let's hurry." said Riven as she recalled yet again the tale of treasure that had been part of the reason she had stayed with the group. "There's nothing out here to steal." was added as an inaudible statement.

Moving fluidly past Gloria, Riven pocketed a few coins she that swiped from her companion. I'll give them back when she misses them. If I remember. Riven thought with a smirk.

Riven stood looking at the town, flexing her "itching" fingers. Those coins are the first in days. I wonder how much longer I'll have to wait. I wonder how much longer I can wait. she thought, recalling a fellow rogue whose fingers got too greedy before they were cut off.At least I'm getting better at restraining myself around constant opporotunity.

((You're evil.))
"I would like to reach our destination before sunset. I prefer not to sleep on the ground again." Gloria clanked foward in her heavy armor, matching speeds with Riven. "You know, dirt doesn't make the best bed, does it?" She smiled heartily at Riven smile before quickly turning forward again.

(( twisted *bows*))

"It's better than nothing." Riven mumbled.

"True. Very true..." Gloria thought for a moment. She suddenly looked back upon the other travelers, noticing that they are of very few words. "A kind voice is very welcome in any conversation, you know. It wouldn't hurt to talk every now and then," she smirked slightly. xd

((Where is everyone else? Dammit! stressed ))

Towns are also notorious for theives. The good, honest kind. Maybe I'll meet someone I know. Riven thought as she listened to her companion.

((dude ur spelling sucks >.<))

"Don't be foolish," Gloria said cooly. "The town is much more safer than the wilderness, and I wish that at least tonight I may have a comfortable bed to sleep in. Rocks are not what I'd call the world's softest matress," Gloria seemed a little huffier than usual. Maybe it was the fact that the barbarian was... well... barbaric. She didn't enjoy the thought of his chaotic nature, and knew that he wouldn't function well in society. She almost feared the thought, thinking of what destruction he might cause. Chaos never did bring anything good. All it brought was trouble, trouble, trouble...

"Yes, yes. Well however we feel about the towns, if we are moving then let's start moving." Sounding more irritated then ever. "Though I must agree with the barbarian in saying that I have no love for towns. Being with people is sometimes no more different than being in the wilderness." In an voice soft enough so the others can't here, "What'sssss bothering you my beloved masssster?" Touching the copper braclet on his right wrist and whispers back, "It's been difficult not having my regular two companions, sometimes I question whether or not it was wise to..." "Well I'm back and I'll sssstill protect I did back then. Though thisss time with more sssubtlety." "I'll appologize to them later and have it written off as hunger now" "?" Taking a deep breathe, Dimitri practically shouts on the top of his lungs, "HEY, GUYS I'M HUNGRY!! MAY I PLEASE HAVE SOME FOOD!!"
