Anya gave me permission to set this up, just as a way to help with concerns we've seen some people express recently - that of Fa'e inadvertantly stepping into powers that other people had been planning on using.

Obviously, a lot of this could well happen accidentally, considering how many people keep certain power developments secret so they'll be a surprise. However, frequently even the GMs don't know what's up, and considering the size of the Fa'e community... a few things should become known so that we the GMs can keep track both for metaplot and possible moderation purposes, should the need arise. n_n

What do you feel would be a good solution to the potential problem? One idea is to have a list of all the Fa'e's mythbases (in detail), and powers in detail - even the powers that the Fa'e hasn't developed ICly yet. I think it would be great to have a list like this for at least GM reference, even if nobody else can see it.

What are your thoughts? Would you prefer a public listing or a private (GM-only) one? How do you feel any disputes could be handled? Do you think the idea of having any listing at all is a good one? Please let us know!

Listing is a good idea as long as people don't get out of hand with claiming powers, like, claiming something like water breathing and saying that no one else can use or, or claiming an excessive amount of powers.

And I think private PM's would be better. O-< I know me myself doesn't want people snooping about Morty's powers and stuff.

Private listing would give people the chance to still surprise their audiences, and would prevent some grandstanding. I like Jiora's idea, with the listing of powers in use without names- though I'd definately add in a section for powers planned for future use, too. That way people could plot, but not worry about conflicts.

Well, if people didn't mind, then I don't really see the problem with listing the powers that each fa'e has _at the moment_. We made up a list like that for the last contest, right? So don't tell anyone about what you've got in the works, but knowing what each fa'e has now may also let people plan fa'e interactions/fights/rp-quests a bit easier without having to ask. I don't really care either way though. Roth's were listed on the first page of his journal, but since the first pages are missing at the moment... stare

I think a private list would be the best idea. Also, it shoudl be up to those RPing what degree different powers will have on them or their fa'e.

Example: IC Drac is fireproof, meaning that she couldn't get burned by anything less than magic fire. Devi can cause earthquakes when stomping the ground or when really ticked, that might not affect fa'e that can fly as well as those stuck on the ground.

It's up to the individuals RPing to conult eachother before each PD. I know that myself and a few others make it a point to IM or talk over PM about anything happening IC so we can sort out how much any given power affects a cahracter. This way, plot line integrity is maintained and no one is forced into something they don't want to deal with and can write their character out of the story if need be.

While there are no "dibs" on things like wings, fire magic, etc. we have noticed that in the past two contests a lot of people like to add things like that for No Reason. And we don't want dozens more winged fa'e or anything, so there is a certain degree of originality we expect even for small things like that.

Lets go with fire magic for a second. Sire had it first, since he was kind of a fire-moth-baby when he was first conceived. Roth has his Hellfire (for obvious reasons). I have nothing against a new fa'e with fire powers, as long as they really make sense - for example, we've had a number of volcano fa'e in the past contests, so if they had fire powers, that would be fine. But if random sparkly magic fa'e wants to have random flying, healing, fire, animal-speaking talents... wtf?

So even if a power isn't fully fa'e-specific, there should still be a limit. (The winged elves in the first contest, I mean. Just why?)

My point is that it would be nice to include things like that just so that people creating their dream fa'e are aware of how many people already have these 'smaller/less important' things.

*pokes head in* ^^; I agree with a lot of the consensus about - a listing of general powers of the fa'e is not only a good database for others to refer to, but also helps set concepts of a fa'e down to prevent someone stepping too closely on someone else's toes.
