Relax... there will be no taunting here of anyone by anyone. We pride ourself in that.
It sounds to me like the Paganism you've started to learn about is Norse Paganism, which I don't particularily know much about. You could learn alot by using our link list, or google-ing the word "Asatru" which is the modern term for that particular religion.
There's many many other branches of Paganism as well, ranging from Celtic to Greek, to Egyptian, and others.
If you're just getting started, I'd recommend starting by getting a book on Wicca that teaches basics. The basics of Wicca are very similar to the basics of most (modern) Pagan religions. From there, if you're still interested in the Norse-type of Paganism, look up Asatru.
By the way, I teach lessons on Paganism to anyone willing to learn. IM me on AIM and we can talk as much as you want about it.

darkshadowofthegoths I've just figured out that I'm pagan, and I don't know very much about [tour?] religion except the religious war history. I wasn't aware that you could be unaware of your religion, so I'm guessing that you just became pagan, or you have pagan ancestors. Quote: I know that "Odin" is their God and that they had two kings named "Berik" and "Theoderik" but that's all I know, except for the war between them and the Christians, that's about it. I don't know any holidays or anything; could you other pagans help me out. Please, I miss my roots, I'm a rootless person, help me. What sort of 'roots' do you think you should have? My roots is my childhood. xp Quote: And no crummy Christian taunts! What sort of "taunts" were you expecting? ----------------------------------------------- My question is, why are you deciding to follow this particular belief? Is it just because your ancestors were? ...I don't think that's a particularly good reason to believe something.

There are two great guilds on Gaia that can help you out with this and can answer some of your questions. The Pagan Fluffy Rehabilitation Center, while originally a fluffy bunny countering system here on Gaia, has plenty of people who can answer basic questions about Paganism. The Anchient Echoes is also a Pagan guild that features some knowledgable people and discussion of Paganism. We're also getting some online courses rolling again too! A site I would highly recommend anybody interested in Wicca, specifically, read, is Wicca for the Rest of Us. Many of us agree, it's just plain the best summary of Wicca you can find on the net. Anchient Echoes also has a humble linklist you can check out for more places to look at related to other forms of Paganism.

I was mistaken in the post I made. I saw the name Odin and thought you were referring to the Norse people. Yes, the Goths worshipped the same (major) god because they came from the same area, originally. Well, I honestly don't know much at all about the ancient Goths, and I know even less about their religion. As far as I know, there's not a single person in the world today that practises that religion. I could always be wrong though. This page has some good info about ancient Goths. It'd be a good starting point for anyone who wants to learn more.

There are several types of Paganism, but I think that this is what you are talking about. I don't really know a lot about this religion, though, so I can't help other than that link.

No, I made the same mistake as you in my first post in this thread. He's talking about Germanic Paganism, not Norse Paganism.

Just because you have 5% Germanic goth blood does not mean you have to follow the goth religion. For example, I am 1/12 Hebrew, and I'm not of a Hebrew Religion, I'm between 35% and 50% Scottish, Irish, and English, however, I'm not really any religion that came from that area. Moreover, wouldn't a geneology test tell you what heritage you are, not a blood test? (Unless the blood test was used in conjunction to find your biological parents, in which case, it would be more of a genetic test than a blood test).

I have a tendancy to agree with chaoticpuppet, and it shows itself here. A religion is an independant choice. I'm half-german, and half-armenian. however, my religious choices stem from Greece. Why? Because it felt right. This is an information station into many religions. If religion is a serious issue for you, I suggest that you read up on the ones that interest you, and then, better equipped with knowlage, make a decision.
I hope this helps.

your ancestry REALLY shouldn't be your reason for becoming a pagan. take me for example. im descended from germans too. but im also very distantly native american. and theres the fact that if my great-uncle is right, i had ancestors on the mayflower, all of whom were puritan. so which would i choose? not a clear cut decision.
