Okay, so I actualy really do understand why many people hate trumpet players. Most of the time, trumpets are arrogant, loud, and sometimes sound downright nasty.
Seeing as I'm a trumpet player, in fact i am the trumpet section leader at my school, mrgreen I would like to come to my defense as a trumpet player eh? lol. Okay so i know that there really isn't much to defend. sweatdrop But there are a few things to consider when hating us.
One: We like it when you hate us (lol, okay so maybe we don't, it is more of an appearance thing as to not bruise our ego.)
Two: The trumpets have sort of a unique problem that many instraments don't. The tone of a trumpet is already shrill, and starts out sounding bad no matter who you are as a beginner. Also, the trumpet's voice carries very well, which makes it much easier to hear a single mistake. It is probably the most single directional sound you can find in an ensemble. As a woodwind, you don't have that problem as much unless you squeek your reed, because your sound is softer, and goes all around you and blends much easier.
I've played other instraments, while the hardest i've seen has to be Oboe with technique and such, I might argue that trumpet is a very hard instrament to play well. Where as the technique isn't nearly as bad as woodwinds, the hard part is tone quality and pitch. So much work goes into fixing just those things in my band. It takes many different breathing exercises, long tones, ombishure exercises. You have to open your throat, and many other things.
So Trumpet haters, I understand. But give us some sympathy, because it is harder then you'd think.

The trumpets aren't THAT bad at my school. Most of them are really nice and funny. And cute! When I was a freshman Clarinet player, I had a huge crush on this Junior Trumpet player. He was really good and he was really nice to me. Well, his sister who's in my grade, found out about the crush and told him about it! Then, she told me to never talk to him ever again. (She's a b***h and she can't play her French Horn) Well, after that, he never spoke to me again.

I can see why some people hate the trumpets. But then again, I don't see why people wouldn't hate them. (I'm a trumpet myself just to let you all know.)

My middle school teacher is a trumpet player, yet he is VERY stupid and arrogant, and SHOWS OFF. He actually is a jerk, yet when he's compared to my high school trumpet players, they're totally nice. (And I'm a beginning trumpet player myself.)

I don't mind most trumpeteers; the ones at my school just happen to be retards. However, this thread is misplaced. Moving to the Woodwinds/Brass Subforum.

The only reason I don't like Brass is because Im bitter. I wasn't aloud to play a brass instrument and a woodwind instrument starting out. When I was perswaded [sp?] by my brother to play woodwinds, my whole family plays/ed woodwinds, I chose the alto sax and mastered that and thought I'd like to move on to master the flute and clarinet. I went to a drum corps (a marching band type thing) and after telling my mom the age range and that, yes mom there is older boys there, she said NO NO NO I will not have you there. So I kinda lost my other oppertunity to play a brass Im not bad just my music teacher wouldn't let me play brass and my mom the boy nazi wouldn't let me join, I was playing a mello but I have been knowen to play trumpet when my teacher was out of the room. Therefore I only hate brass because I'm bitter.

Trumpets are cool. Most of the good players at our school are pretty cool. Its the crappy players over here that are arrogant.
And I believe that oboe is harder to play well than a trumpet... But whatever I'm just splitin hairs

well the trumpets in my "HIGH SCHOOL" band are very timid. But thats because I left because it sucks to be the only good trumpeter, and when the next best person cant reach the g above the ledger lines it sux real bad. so i think I might have to switch back. IDK though. Baritone is nice. well thats all i gotta say
