Les Paul ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had an SG, and its light, really really light. BUT the sound of its really reallyreally ******** AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, the LP is REALLY heavy, but it's a BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL guitar. WOOTNESS. The LP has the class, and the sound. So ******** the SG, the Les Paul is the guitar.

I myself wouldn't head down the Gibson route, but it's a personal choice.
Given the two choices, though, I'd probably head towards the SG. It's alot lighter and won't play merry hell with your back. It looks damn cool, and it's not as common as a les paul.
But again, it's all personal choice. We can't make decisions for you, you're the one who's gonna have to play it.
Congrats on the new guitar, either way.

I also think the SG. I assume we are talking about the Standard series? The SG is very light, and has a great classic Gibson sound. The Les Paul is so heavy that it could damage your back after a few hours. gonk

LP. That's a personal thing as I really don't enjoy the look of SG's. If I had the money, I'd go for a Rickenbacker, though.

I havent played a Gibson in my life...still I played an ep[i les paul once and even though I love the look the feel of the thing (rpobably not the same as the gibson) sucked...I still would prefer an SG lighter, more rocking and above all else proably more comfy for higher frets

When did the Les Paul stop being ROCK?I have always thought of it as the poster child for rock... azur_sakai94 what kind of a question is that!? lol jk...i suppose it would come down to what kind of music you play. rock blues jazz go for the LP...metal hardcore punk go for the SG. i myself preferr the LP...second favorite right next to the legend itself...the fender strat. i play blues and jazz if you couldent tell blaugh Come on man- Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols played a LP! I personally like Mustangs and Jags for punk, but thats another thread... Anyway, I would go with the LP, but then again I am a big burly guy who thinks the SG is kinda ugly and my first axe was a generic LP and I love the sound. Its the only guitar I still lust after constantly.
