Appearance: Kyvan has grey shoulder length hair, which usually hangs over his eyes, the left eye is blue and the right is green. Due to some unknown factor, Kyvan’s fangs are in his lower jaw, rather than the upper. While his mouth is closed, they lay flat in two grooves, on either side of his tongue; only when he opens his mouth all the way do they slide forward and up. His arms, from the elbow down, have grey scales. His grey scaled tail is quite flexible, despite its girth, and makes a useful weapon during battle. He wears a plain black turtleneck sweater and loose black slacks. He also wears a pair black gloves, and black boots. On the back of his sweater, and on his scabbard, is a silver stylized dragon, the symbol of his people, the Drakons.
Personality: Soft-spoken, polite, and patient, Kyvan acts the part of a true gentleman. Only with Kyvan, this is no facade, no mask to hide behind. Aside from a short fit of insanity while transitioning from the living to the undead, Kyvan's personality has not altered since his early teens.
He is a quiet individual, much prefering a peaceful life, though he is more than willing to fight when someone or something he cares about is threatened. His gentle nature shows through in combat quite frequently, as he is often too easy on his enemies. However, if it is someone he cares for that is threatened, rather than himself, he can be a vicious fighter, every bit as merciless as a trained killer. He has never reveled in the bloodlust of his vampiric hunger, and often tries to hide that part of himself from others.
While he does everything he can to avoid contact with other vampires, Kyvan is a social creature at heart, and enjoys being around people. He is also fond of children, perhaps because he can no longer sire his own, and will lavish attention and affection upon the youngsters he comes in contact with.
Abilities: Trained in hand-to-hand combat, Kyvan prefers not to rely on weapons in combat. His talons and tail make quite formidable weapons, and his physical strength makes him a splendid fighter.
He has the good fortune to be invulnerable to sunlight, a common vampiric weakness.
History: Born the second son of the ruling family of Drakon III, Kyvan was a spoilt child, totally used to getting his way, and completely in awe of his older brother, Darien. Having all the priviledges of royalty and none of the responsibilities of the throne made the young prince a cocky, selfish young boy. Admiration of his brother made it easy for Darien to influence the younger's behavior, though the elder was rarely on the home world. The duties of the heir kept Darien away from young Kyvan, so for the most part, Kyvan did as he pleased. His parents kept busy with the duties of ruling an empire kept them away from the young prince as well.
Life went on like this for a while, until Darien was killed while off world. The responsiblities and duties of the heir fell to Kyvan, and had it not been for Aerae's help and guidance, Kyvan would have carried on being the same spoiled selfish boy. Aerae, once engaged to the late Prince Darien, made it her goal to see that Kyvan became a proper Prince, ready to assume leadership. Under her guidance, Kyvan changed from the spoilt brat to a proper gentleman, becoming much like his late brother, even-tempered, wise, and kind.
When it came time for arrange for a marriage for the prince, Aerae handled everything, selecting a young woman she believed would make a suitable match for the Prince. And for a time, Kyvan objected to Lady Ellien, displeased with having his bride selected for him. But as they discovered a mutual interest in music, Kyvan began to get along with, and soon fell in love with his future wife. They were to be wed, and Kyvan would inherit the throne in a few short years.
However, it seemed Fate had something different in mind for the Prince...
Attacked and abducted by a vampire, Kyvan was abandoned far from the capital, and left for dead. Though the vampire who'd attacked him thought the Prince too weak to survive, the same fierce strength of will that had driven the young boy to be so independent (and indeed, bratty), kept the Kyvan from dying. It took weeks to complete the shift from the living to being one of the undead. The instincts of a fledgling vampire drove Kyvan to hide from others, for fear of being harmed by them. By the time Kyvan regained control of his wits, his world believed him dead, and his love, Lady Ellien, had been wed to another man.
In the time it took him to come to terms with what he had become, he came to realize that staying on his homeworld would only drive him to insanity. He left his home world, and ended up settling on Gaia. Throughout the decades he has kept himself busy, getting involved in various clans, and keeping himself in contact with many people. Despite having to watch the mortals around him age and pass, he prefers contact with them. A few violent encounters with other vampires have made Kyvan wary of his undead kindred.
In becoming a member of the Shinigami Clan, he met Devetaki, and despite a rough beginning, is very much in love with her. He has grown quite attached to the rest of the Clan as well, despite his absences.
