i can't believe there isn't already a topic for this!!!!
It was a time of chaos, when Heaven and Earth were as one, and humans and demons - the youkai - lived together in peace. The foundations of civilization and religion were raised and reinforced in this land of Togenkyo, the paradise known as Shangri-la.
But now, a great evil threatens harmony in this great land. Far to the West, in India, someone is attempting to resurrect the youkai lord Gyumaoh by mixing human science with youkai magic. This forbidden practice has created a Minus Wave of negative energy that is spreading across Shangri-la, poisoning the souls of the youkai and turning them into mindless monsters. The only hope lies in four legendary heroes:
Genjyo Sanzo, a high priest with low morals.
Son Goku, the hungry and mischievous Monkey King, just released from 500 years imprisonment.
Sha Gojyo, a water sprite with an addiction for good smokes and bad women.
Cho Hakkai, the legendary demon slayer, and his transforming dragon Hakuryu.
To save Shangri-la, these unlikely companions, united by fate, must travel together ... INTO THE WEST!
Saiyuki is a must see for a true anime lover,
the characters are well drawn with great personalities,
the storyline is intriguing,
and the villian is one of those that you love to hate.

I've read the first manga and have seen a LOT of trailors but I haven't actually seen the anime before. From what I've read in the first manga, its great but it just didn't pull me in.

i think they've come out with the whole 1st series
now they're starting on saiyuki reloaded
(i'm told the dubbed voices in reloaded are awful)

Yeah. I saw the trailer and I personally think that the voices are worse then the first part (the voices on the first part aren't necessarily bad but they could be better).

It does but it got annoying to me. They all talk in the same tone (well maybe not Hakkai and Goku but Sanzo and the other guy sure do sound alike).

okay i havn't read they manga but i have seen they very first episodes in dvd and they were really good...flipped channels you must have way better cable than me huh?
