So. As many of you know, or don't know... I am getting married next year, sometime in May. No exact date has been set though it will be after the 5th and probably on a Saturday. They say it is never too late to look for wedding dresses. However I have run into this problem.

I am a size 26. I am around 280-290 lbs. I am 5'5" and pear shaped. I wear a 42 C Bra, and have a broad back. I am in no way small. I have been said to be "sturdy" which I have always though was people's way of being nice when they mean short and round.

The dresses I orginally picked out for my wedding were hmmed and hawed over by my two younger sisters and my mother. My sisters insist that these dresses will make me look shorter and rounded and proceeded to tell me I should wear a dress that I basically don't like. I figure I'll look short and round in whatever I wear, because I am.

I particularly like big skirts or bustle, or poet sleeved wedding dresses. I've always had a flair for more "gothic" styled wedding dresses. If it resembles anything 1800 or later I probably adore it. Not a garuntee, but the chance is better.

My question then is what would most likely be flattering to my figure? Do you think it would be acceptable to wear a big poofy skirt like I love? I'd welcome any suggestions on this. Picture post etc. I'll post some links of some of the dresses I've liked and maybe you guys could help me out.

This is me. .Taken awhile ago. I now have black, with purple streaks instead of the red and blonde and am a size larger. Maybe that will help?

exclaim I have yet to figure out a way to get my digital camera to take a full blown shot, but I did find an old prom picture (nearly 4 years in age). I am one size larger than when it was taken but it gives you an idea what I'm talking about with my shape.

exclaim Also found a way to incorporate a rememberance for my grandfather and my fiance's grandfather. They're usuing sunflowers and tieing ribbons to them and laying them across a chair.

Flower GirlI think the other dresses I've seen are kind of stuffy. I think it would be neat in a purple without the wings or maybe I'm crazy?

I like three of them. I like the 3,4, and last one those are really pretty.

Yeah 4 is my absolute favorite. I'm worried though that it may end up being too hot! lol. May in Memphis can be exceptionally warm sweatdrop

lol thanks dwarf. You can be sure I'll be posting the engagment photos once I get those done. My sister is sending me some koopins (coupons) for the sears studio because she works there. Hooray for cheap nice loooking photos. I will also be posting pictures of my wedding once I have it ^_^. A lot of people like number 3 it seems. I'll deifnately have to try it on and see how it looks and what will need to be altered. My fiance knows he's lucky to have a cutie like me wink lol.

I really think that you should have a picture of yourself standing up so we could get a better idea of your figure...but I'll do my best with the picture you've given.

I think this one and this one are the most flattering for your body shape.

I really like this one as well, but I don't think the actual dress part is the right shape for you, but you gotta love the butterflies and the sheer/wispy sleeves 3nodding

Yeah, it seems that your sisters are picturing THEMSELVES in those dresses...spagetti straps/sleeveless dresses aren't flattering on those of us who have plush-like arms...I love spagetti straps, but they just don't seem to love me xp lol

Bell sleeves are flattering on everyone, especially us chubbeh ladies. Plus those dresses are gorgeous, you'd look like a princess, and who doesn't want to look magical on their wedding day? wink I'd just ignore your sisters fashion advice...YOU know what would look good so that's all that matters 3nodding
