Well, they couldn't really do anything to him, except put him in a jar, and I'm sure he could tolerate that. As long as he doesn't hear a clock ticking or he isn't fed to a crocodile, he'll be fine. In fact, I'm more worried about what he might do to the girls...as dumb as he may see, he's still dangerous. Esmeralda paused as she heared the them all into a propped open dumpster. Huh...do you hear that? I thought I heard someone calling you, Jem...and it wasn't telepathic...

Kazu Kirina
The tambourine made a good point;; not much could be done to an iron hook. This calmed Jem slightly, but the silence was only to be interrupted by a familiar voice. It was muffled, but the point was clear.
Kazu was looking for her.
Jem shivered violently, if she could cry there would be tears streaming down her face. She was so stressed about the fact that she couldn’t get to Kazu, but she knew there had to be a way;; there just HAD to.
“Esme,” she began shakily, “that’s my guardian. She needs us, Grumpy needs us! How do we get out of this thing?!” She rebounded herself off the top of the dumpster, to no avail. All she really did was make a lot of noise…

Tymiko the Pirate Girl
Chai? Who the heck is Chai? I'm the pirate here, missy, and I'd be very gratified toward you if you would kindly let me go. It was said Hook was most dangerous when he was the most polite, and though he hadn't quite reached that point yet, he was very close. All this, being ceased as a child's play toy, was just too much.

However, he was distracted by his thoughts of revenge by the unbearable sounds of weeping. Now James could not stand for tears, no matter their form, and softened some. Then, with a sudden jerk, he attempted once and for all to brek free of his captor and float up to the woman's face to have a better look.

[Spiked Mountain Dew]
The last jerk nearly twisted Raine's hand off, and with a canine yelp she let go of the Hook. She hissed painfully, licking at her tortured wrist.

So the cloud knows the woman... hm...

"Hey lady..." Olivia started, an expressionless look on her face. "If you can get that cloud to float into this jar, I'll tell you where your pretty little stone's gotten to..."

She motioned towards Grumpy, who was a very brilliant shade of royal blue by now.

"He's my brother, you see... and he refuses to come home."

Grumpy couldn't very well speak to Kazu, and even if he drifted into the dumpster, she probably wouldn't have understood. So he just hovered there, hoping that she would figure it all out on her own.

Kazu Kirina
The hook floating up to her face was a slight surprise to Kazu;; but as soon as she realized that she recognized the item, she refocused her concentration on the two girls. The one was now nursing a wound of some sort, no doubt from the hook, but she couldn’t say for sure as she hadn’t seen it. Her main focus was on the girl with the jar.

“I’m sorry,” said Kazu in a slightly irritable voice, “but I’m quite sure that if that ‘cloud’ wanted to come home with you, he would. But Grumpy, judging by his color, doesn’t appear to want to. And I'm quite positive that even if he wanted to go with you, it wouldn't be in a jar." Now she knew she sounded angry, but she couldn't help it.. "Why aren’t Shiori and Sophie here if he is needed home so badly?”

Yes, she knew she was off the topic she truly cared about;; Jem. But she could tell, judging by the feelings in the air, that both of the items were in danger because of these two girls. She would help them, and hopefully Jem would be okay.
In the background, she heard a clanging;; but she couldn’t place it.

After whimpering a bit over her hand, Raine nudged Olivia with her elbow. "Sis... she's gettin' mad... Maybe we ought to back off... this isn't really fun anymore..."

Emotionless mask never wavering, the eleven-year-old punched her sister in the arm.

"Shut up. You're being stupid. I never said you had to follow me, Raine. If you want to go home, go home, I don't care what you do. This woman couldn't possibly do us any harm, anyway."

The were-hybrid shifted the jar under her arm, and cracked her knuckles with her now-free hands.

"My mother and her..." Olivia paused for a moment, expression changing to something that resembled disgust before it switched back to emptiness. She didn't seem to be a big fan of Sophie. "...friend... are not here because they don't know we're here. They're probably out looking for us in all the wrong places, and I intend to use that time to carry out my experiment...

So if you would encourage my brother to come over here, I would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise, you're wasting my time, and you can find your stupid item by yourself."

((SMD, would you happen to know what page are those posts on in the main thread?))

Insolent wretch! James exclaimed telepathically. They think they can talk to adults like that?! In a fit of fury, he dove at the glass jar and scraped his metal hook across the surface with as much force as he could manage. He didn't go so far as to hope the jar would break, but he hoped it would at least cause a distraction.

((Jem:: ))

"Why I oughta.." Began Kazu, but before she could finish her threat, the repetitive clanging was overruled by a deafening screach emmitted by the hook dragging itself across the glass jar. As loud as it was, it certainly caused a proper distraction for Kazu. She ran over to Grumpy covering her ears along the way.

"Grumpy, I know you cant tell me exactly, but you have to help me! Where is Jem?" She stared at the cloud, waiting a reply, but not expecting much.

"She's so close!" Cried Jem, hitting herself once more against the dumpster. She had to stop now, it was beginning to hurt. 'Please hear me..' she thought to herself. If she could, she would be weeping feebly.

((Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... pg. 2800, I think.. I'd have to check.))

Having ears that were ten times as sensitive as Kazu's, Raine stifled yet another yelp as the screech split the air. She covered her ears, and glared at Olivia. The older were-child fled the area, obviously not liking the recent turn of events.

The sound seemed to affect Olivia as well, and in an attempt to cover her sensitive ears, she dropped the jar, bounding out of the way as it shattered into pieces against the ground.

Grumpy stared back at Kazu, hovering there silently. He knew Jem and Esme were stuck in the dumpster. But how to show her that? Slowly but surely his mind thought of an idea.

He floated over to the dumpster and began to circle around it frantically.

((Thanks, SMD!!

Oops! >.< Sorry Jem! *taps Esme, making her jingle* You there, gypsy girl?))

That's your guardian?! Esme repeated, surprised. Uh oh...here, let me try! The tamborine rammed herself against the dumpster lid, causing her to jingle loudly. However, it was not loud enough to drown out the furious screeching outside.

Oww! For once I'm glad we don't have ears...even as items it's bad! What's going on out there?!

A great groaning and squeaking was heard outside as a huge mental wave of strain was sensed by the tamborine. James?

Feeling triumphant after the jar had shattered, Hook floated over toward Grumpy. His plan had worked better than he had thought.

In an effort to do something while they waited for Kazu to figure out Grumpy's message, Hook went over to the dumpster lid and hooked himself under it, heaving it upward with all his might.

At your service, mi'ladies...

The screaching was put out of Kazu's mind when she saw the little cloud fly wildly around the large dumpster in front of them.
"The dumpste...." But before Kaz could finish her sentence, she saw the hook item float past her and lift the lid.
"WAIT! What are you doing?!"

When the dumpster lid lifted up, Jem shot out of the dumpster as quickly as she could;; she was so happy to be free. Catching sight of Kazu, she flung directly at her, glowing violently bright. "KAZU!!" If only she could have heard that, that single word had more emotion in it than Jem had ever felt.

When the small gemstone came flying at her, Kazu didnt catch wind of it until the last second. All she saw was a blinding pink glow, and then felt something small but strong collide with her chest. Looking down, she already knew what to expect.
"JEM! Where have you been?! I was so worried!!!" Kazu was in tears again, but this time they werent sad. She raised the gemstone to her face height and kissed it lightly. She smiled then, and looked to all of the other items, the newest of which seemed to be a tambourine.
"I dont know if you guys can understand me, but I really appreciate you looking after her."

Jem floated over to Grumpy after recieving the motherly kiss from Kazu. "Are you okay? I was so worried for yours and the captain's safety! We just couldnt figure out how to get out of that horrible garbage bin." Jem's glow was dim, but gave off a caring feel to those who saw it.

'Wait...she's moving on her own?!' Thought Kazu to herself. "You sneaky little devil." She said quietly. "So thats how you got here on your own. I suppose I have you three to thank for that?" She directed the question at Grumpy and the others, not aware that it was mainly the tambourine who had helped.
Not even realising it, they all had forgotten almost entirely about the little were-girl that was still in their presence.

Grumpy zipped around Jem excitedly. Apparently he had been worried as well. "I'm fine, I just wish I could have helped out better. I didn't know how to tell her where you guys were... Are you okay?"

Olivia was seething with fury and irritation. How dare this woman and objects make a fool of her... She ruined my experiment... She must pay... The were-hybrid growled, fangs bared menacingly.

Hook, mentally wincing at the Jem's brilliance, nearly dropped the lid before Esmeralda manged to escape. Luckily he caught it, however, and the tamborine hastily made her retreat.

The two watched the joyful reunion between Jem, Kazu and Grumpy, Esme jingling as she giggled and Hook, for some reason, emiting waves of embarassment.

What's the matter, Captain? she asked teasingly. Awkward being the hero for once?

He shifted uncomfortably in the air. It was nothing. Scraping a jar and lifting a dumpster lid are hardly heroic deeds. Besides...why should I care? I didn't get anything out of this little adventure...except, perhaps a headache...

Although James Matthew spoke as such, was obviously troubled by something. Esme wondered if he had been human he would have been blushing. She could certianly detect it in his telepathy.

Aww...James, I bet you never thought any of us gave a second thought for you, Esme sympathized, realizing what Jem had said about being worried for their safety. But Jem really was worried...and so was I. That was sweet of you to help, no matter how small of a 'deed'. If she could have, she would have given him a little kiss on the cheek.

Yes, well...to not have done so would have been bad form. It was nothing more, I assure you. Esmeralda spoke his first name in such an endearing way, as if she considered him her friend, that he grew even more uneasy. He would half to do something about that.

My dear, He began with a falsely sweet tone, Do you recall when you called me Hook and I insisted to be known by my first name? I changed my mind. From now on I kindly ask you address me as Captain Hook.

Well, then...shall we depart? I see no sense in remaining. All this...excessive joy is just making my headache worse...and I don't like that wolf girl standing over there...

The tamborine jingled again, expressing her amusement. She managed to catch James' Hook and tow him over to the others as he attempted to float away. Alright then, Captain Hook, but not so fast! Don't you want to say hi? We never got to meet Jem's Guardian. And I want to see if Grumpy's alright!

Let go! I demand you release me! That little cloud is just fine. Look at him! And if that woman is anything like our guardian, I don't even want to go near her... he tugged insistantly in the opposite direction, but in vain. Though he could lift a heavy dumpster lid, he was no match for the persistant tamboine.

Grumpy! Esme called, ignoring Hook's pleas, We're fine! But are you alright? Those girls are scary!

Hook mentally shook his head before floating over to Kazu and Jem. Uh...ahem...Jem... he thought for a moment, but found he couldn't bring himself to ask how she was. After all, to him it was quite clear she was okay. The thought became very...awkward. So, instead, he came up with something else. ...hadn't you mentioned earlier that your guardian had know you had left? I was ahead of you and Esmeralda, but not that far ahead.

All the time he spoke, he kept a close watch on the remaining child threat. He had learned never to turn your back to a potential enemy, nor to underestimate them, which was exactly what he had done before he had been grabbed and swung around like a toy.

Jem glowed happily, smiling mentally as her friend floated around her;; quite clearly the happiest he had ever been. "Its okay! You did the best you could;; and we're all fine, right everyone?" She rotated herself to face Hook and Esme, who seemed to be having a physical argument that Esme was winning. Jem giggled, shaking slightly and not entirely sure what this new battle was over (clearly she hadnt been listening to anyone but Grumpy). "Now now guys, no fighting. I'm quite sure there has been enough of that for one day."

When Jem heard the question Hook directed at her, her once bright glow faded slightly in embarassment. "Umm..." She said, her glow shifting slightly as she began to shake a little more;; she had been caught in a lie, and decided not to make it worse. "About that.. It was a bit of a lie." She said in a nervous tone. "BUT PLEASE DONT BE MAD!" she pleaded, "I just wanted to stay for a bit, only a little while." If she had been a child, she would have been looking at her shoes, competly dejected.

Kazu sat down silently to watch the items, facinated by the obvious conversation that was taking place in front of her. She just sat there, a silent partaker in the conversation.

The only thing that snapped her back to reality was an agrivated growl that she heard from behind herself.

"Hmm?" She turned to face the source of the growl only to find herself staring at an apparently very mean-looking were-girl. A mix of fear and adrenaline spread in her blood immediately as she stood up, blocking the items.

"Calm down..." she said in a cool voice that sounded nothing like her own. 'I can't let her hurt the items.'

"That's easy for you to say... You're not the one who just got her plans ruined by a stupid human woman and a few items. You have no idea what you've done..."

Olivia's pupils shifted into slits, and she clenched her fists. She was still a very young were-child, but that didn't make her any less threatening. Especially since she had both werecat and werewolf blood running through her veins.

"All I had to do was catch that cloud-thing and make him disappear. Then maybe his... 'mother' would get angry and leave. I hope she still does."

Grumpy seemed to be convinced, and calmed down a little, though he floated near Jem and his gray color didn't return completely. He bobbed in a nod to Esme.

"I'm fine, and I'm sorry about my sisters... They've never done anything like this before..." He trailed off, attention returning to the were-hybrid who was now positively livid. Grumpy could never figure out why Olivia disliked him so, nor Raine for that matter, though it seemed that the older were hadn't come for the same reasons.

He caught Olivia's last sentence and froze. She wants us to go away?
PostPosted: Wed Jul 05, 2006 2:14 am

Hook chuckled bitterly at Jem's guilty confession. Mad? Certainly not. I believe an idea must be of utmost brilliance to fool her, he said, gesturing at Esme. Though it takes a woman to know one I suppose...just as it takes a liar to know a liar. He smiled mentally. No need to feel ashamed. If you had to, you had to. Can't change the past, now, can you? Beside, I doubt we would have been able to handle those two brats if it hadn't been for you, m'dear.

He paused and watched Kazu's actions curiously, before realizing what she was trying to do. He became surprised. She would be wiling to protect them with herself? Certainly this guardian had to be better than Tymiko...then again, Hook couldn't really recall a time when they had been in danger around her. Still, he doubted she would be the self-sacrificing type. She was simply too carefree and childish to think in such a manner.

Those are your sisters?! Esme exclaimed, suddenly thinking Puck wasn't such a bad 'brother' compared to those girls. That's terrible! You shouldn't allow them to treat you like that!

Ah, well sibling rivalry is a common reason for bickering among children, though that is going a bit far with the jar and all...but it's not as if I would know.

Suprisingly, Jem felt a surge of pride when Hook complimented her;; she had never felt that she could do much in a bad situation. "You really mean that?" If she could have, a small smile would have spread across her face. Instead, her glow brightened; but only enough to express an opinion (not to blind).
After she finished that sentence, her attention was drawn to Grumpy again. His personality had seemed to return to normal, or possibly lower. Jem wondered what could have caused this occurance (clearly she didnt hear much, cause she hadnt caught the weregirl's words). She floated over to her friend.
"Grumpy?" she questioned, her glow fading, "Whats wrong?"

"How could you even say that?" Said Kazu, feeling her blood boil. "What has that little cloud ever done to you? And his 'mother' as you call her, what terrible event has led to your hating her so much?" Kazu's stance changed from a protective block, arms held out straight, to one with more anger and attitude in it.
So much for keeping calm.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 05, 2006 10:28 am

Olivia's entire body seemed to sigh, as though she were tired of trying to explain things to Kazu. "It's not so much what he's done as what he is. I'll have you know one thing, though. I lied before."

Her silver eyes glanced at the little cloud, a dangerous expression flooding her face.

"Raine may consider him her brother, but I assure you that I don't. He will never be a part of my family. As to the terrible event to which you are refering to... Which, by the way, you can't even begin to comprehend all the details of it, but I'll spell it out for you as simply as I can."

She crossed her arms.

"She fell in love. Again, simply put, seeing as I don't care to explain myself to the likes of you."

The were-child seemed as though she were about to say something more, when she heard Sophie's footsteps approaching. She closed her eyes, obviously annoyed, and began to walk towards the spirit, who looked positively livid. Olivia said nothing to her, and continued to walk on until she was out of sight.

And they say I'm the child...

For now, Sophie would let the girl go. She was too worried about Grumpy to care about the tension between herself and Shiori's daughter.

She ran over to the cloud, kneeling down so that she could examine him more carefully.

"Are you alright, Grumpy?"

The spirit's expression never wavered, but her normally cool-as-ice voice trembled, and it was obvious that she had been scared out of her mind when the cloud disappeared.

Grumpy said nothing to Jem, and hovered there quietly as his mother arrived. He had heard all of the conversation, and it was almost too much for his mind to process all at once.
