The late sunny afternoon was drifting on, and so was the weather coating Setone that day. The wind had started to collect from the east, ruffling the grass into motion: setting each softer greeny brown blade of grass into running their very own dance against the next. Yet, nobody from number one could complain, the wind kept the temperature down for all furry beings contained under one roof.

Just inside, Emi swept the last of the porch; sending particles of dust flying from the porch onto the ground below. The house was sparkling, the windows cleaned, the porch polished and even inside looked relatively clean. Something was coming, something big enough for Emi to clean the house inside out. Not that anyone would know she'd cleaned it massively unless they'd seen the un-tidy state it had been in just a few hours before.

"All done," Resting her broom against the wall, Emiko Pallone rested safely on her laurels that everything was clean and tidy. Progolo wouldn't think of the woman as an un-tidy housekeeper, and thus a rather unsuitable babysitter for Kala. She'd even gone as far to brush up her cooking skills, not quite safe in the knowledge Progolo was going to provide the Keppit with Kala's rations.

Blanche, tired from the long day past, lifted her head off her paws. She was curled up on the wooden rocking chair, her body nestled up into the curve of Toby's great stomach, white paw settled under a mash of black and white. Stretching her wings out, the young Aerandir watched her Mother with amazement - why exactly had she cleaned this place from top to bottom?

Swishing her tail behind her, Blanche turned around to preen at her feathers, short black beak making fine work of tugging at a certain stained yellow splodged feather. Twitching her furry white ears against her head, Blanche tugged at the loose yellow feather.

"They'll be here soon," Taking one step back, Emi removed her (now rather warm) mug of water from the sideboard. Sliding forwards onto her heels, she perched on the edge of the porch, paws landing on the steps below her. Leaning back onto one hand, the Keppit furry sipped from the edge of her dappled gray mug. The tips of her ears flicked, tail swishing across the floor behind her. Why exactly was she trying to impress again?

Progolo hurried down the Setone street, all his usual serenity gone. His clothing was wrinkled, his face ashen, and his normally sleek hair dis-sheveled. In one arm, he carried a bag full of supplies. In the other was a bundle of dark blue feathers, from which the sounds of raspy breathing could be heard.

Kala followed at his heels, her pace as hurried as her keeper's. What was with all this rush? She enjoyed the chance at getting outside, but...this was odd.

Suddenly, number one came into view. Kala's ears shot up. Blanche? Was that...Blanche?

"WARK!"

She darted past Progolo in a full gallop, hardly able to contain herself as she nearly collided with the porch steps.

Emi's normally calm faced instantly turned grave as the man hurried around the corner. Drink all but forgotten, the woman pushed it to one side, instantly up on all fours. A frown set deep into her features, Emi dashed up to meet him, dodging the pink and cream Aerandir as Kala ran by. Dark brown paws skidded to a halt before the keeper, worried brown eyes watching what almost seemed like a completely different man.

Was he ok? That was another question altogether, rather, her worry was spent on the poor bundle covered up in his arms. Her astute ears instantly fled back to her head, the woman's tail flicking around to curl around one furry ankle. She hated seeing anything in pain.
"How is she holding up?" Emi questioned, resisting the urge to graze her teeth over her bottom lip. The keppit stayed firm, her fingers nervously twiddling with the end of her cotton shirt. In all honesty, she didn't know quite what to do with herself.

Wait, Kala? Head deep in her feathers, Blanche's little ears twitched as the rather unsteady sound of a giraffe bolting towards the porch door hit her. Pushing her beak away instantly, which pulled out the yellow feather, bright golden orbs saw the creature bolt for the front porch. That was Kala!

Blanche chirped in surprise, a rather high pitched sound coming from the Arctic gryphon. Diving down from her perch, her wings flicked out, the gryphon falling onto a neat landing on the porch. Wait, Kala would be able to climb the porch steps - right?
Glancing towards the steps and then back up: Blanche's gaze found with that of her guardian. She paused, white paw in mid-air. Was everything ok? Emi would sort it, right? Putting on a happy click, Blanche found herself padding from one side of the step to the other in unison.

Progolo was already giving murmurs of graditude when Taley asked about the gryphon chick in his arms. "She...she's not good..." he mumbled, shaking his head. He carefully adjusted the bundle to reveal a beautiful, fluffy baby gryphon. Her eyes were dull, her plumed chest rising shakily.

Progolo turned his washed-out face towards the dock. The ferry was already there, he could see. He only hoped Myrrh would make the trip...

"Here..." he said, holding the bag out to Emiko. "That's her food...and a few of her playthings. The directions are on the jar...it will tell you the measurements." His voice sounded...small, somehow. "Thanks Emi..."

Kala clopped up the stairs with apparent ease and began to run excited circles around Blanche. Blanche, Blanche, Blanche! Man, it was good to see her again! She'd had to just pretend her playmate had been in #4 with her for too long...now she was finally seeing the real thing. She was slightly...yellower than before, but definetly the real thing! She gave Blanche a playful nuzzle.

Emi's frown only became graver upon seeing the small bundle. Taking the bag from the keeper, Emi let it slide down between her feet; there were more pressing matters at hand. Curling her furry fingers briefly around the hand that had just offered her the bag, she squeezed his hand gently, before releasing it a moment later. It may have been a strange motion, but the words fitted it all.

"Go on, before you're late. I'm sure you'll find somebody, now take care the pair of you," Sounding more like a worried parent than anything, the woman pressed a smile. Her ears flickered right back to her head, white teeth finally grazing over her bottom lip. Jar, right, food? That had barely even registered, she'd figure all that out later.

So she could get up the steps! Bounding into her friend, Blanche nuzzled back to the flamingo's own playful nuzzle, her furry tail flying into a mad swishing wag behind her. It was her own way of being happy. Nuzzling her white cheeks back to Kala's pink, Blanche's wings fluttered back to her sides: folding in so the feathers didn't poke either of the gryphon’s.

So far she'd had to have just wanted to see the flamingo: it was far nicer to have the gryphon here. Then again, why was she here? Emi hadn't said anything about visits recently...

"We'll be fine," Emi's tail flickered behind her, faltering back around to swish behind her. They'd be fine, everything would be rosy. Brushing the dirt up behind her, Emi took one brief glimpse at the open bag: down to what she could only assume to be a jar of some pink substance. Now that looked like fun.

Progolo was too weary to jerk away from her touch, as he most likely would have under normal circumstances. Besides, he needed the consolation. The gryphon in question had formed a close bond with him, and her waning health was literally sickening.

"Thank you," he repeated, more or less gurgling the words. With an admirable display of social courage, he rested his free hand on her shoulder and briefly touched his lips to the side of her head.

Quickly withdrawing, he adjusted Myrrh more comfortably against his body. She opened her silverish beak and emitted a weak sound, but went immediately limp. Progolo swallowed as a wave of nausea washed over him, nodded his thanks to Emi, and made his way towards the dock, his pace shakier than it had been before.

Kala, happily oblivious to the drama, had just caught sight of Toby. She'd seen him before, but, WOW! He looked really big up close! And cuddly...and warm...

Kala extended her neck towards the old dog, clacking her beak. Would he mind if she snuggled up with him? She glanced at Blanche for confirmation, tail flicking.

In the bag are a few objects. Most prominent is the heavy jar full of pinkish goo which seems to be squirming a bit. But maybe (...hopefully?) it's just a trick of the light. Its label indicates the amount that should be mixed with a gallon of water for feeding a single gryphon--the serving for a flamingo chick has been circled.

Along with the jar is an over-loved bean bag for Kala's entertainment, and Blanche's ratty feather, which has begun to function as her security blanket.

Finally, there is a letter.

Quote:
Dear Emi,

I thought I would include a note for your reference, hoping that Kala's presence and behavior won't take you too much off-guard. Below is a general schedule that she is used to following...

Seven-Kala wakes up. This is generally when I feed her. She usually doesn't eat it all, so don't worry if she leaves some--she'll most likely finish it off throughout the day. She puts her head in the water and simply sifts it through her beak, but she does tend to get water in her ears. She doesn't usually like getting caressed, but if you find her nudging your hand, she's probably indicating that she wants you to rub her ears until the water drains out (I have no idea where she learned that behavior from...)

From then to about ten o' clock she's usually lively and playful. She hates being left alone, I've found, but other than that she doesn't require much attention. She likes rigorous activities....I do hope she won't overwhelm Blanche. At ten she begins to quiet down. She may lay down on her legs to rest, but when she's truly sleeping she remains standing up.

Basically her day is a cycle of brief resting periods (usually, as mentioned above, only about two hours long) and three-to-four hours of livelihood. I'm sorry to say that this cycle continues throughout the night, though she's learned to be quiet after dark. If she's really bothering you, though, I might suggest filling the bathtub with a few inches of water. She can keep herself entertained with water for days.

I think that should be all...if you need any more help, you can always ask Mystaven. He'll be at number four. He mind-speaks English fluently and should be able to answer your questions and/or give you assistance.

Once again, thank you sincerely for all of your help.

Progolo stepped onto the dock, his mind still following to bobbing motion of the sea. The breakfast he'd scarfed earlier was threatening to make a reappearance as he shakily made his way more fully onto the land.

"How'rey'feelingMyrrh?" Progolo gurgled, his voice slurred with motion-sickness. He prodded the mound of feathers resting in the sling around his neck.

Myrrh warbled happily, her adorable head emerging at once to look around. Her dark eyes had regained their luster, her enthusiasm for life revitalized. One would be hard-pressed to find a more pleased soul.

The researcher chuckled wearily as he felt her energy course through him. "Wellguhd.Thamakeswunuvus.LesseewhaKala'sbeenuptohm?"

Myrrh nuzzled his chest, amused by the vibrations of his deep voice and confused at the same time. How could he sound so tired on THE BEST DAY IN THE WORLD?!

Progolo leaned against a lonely palm, closing his eyes and willing the spinning to stop. He didn't want Kala (Or Emi either, for that matter) to see him in this way. Inhale...exhale...inhale...exhale...deep...slow...breaths...

Myrrh burbled anxiously, and tried to emit some comforting vibes. She had felt none of the effects of the churning boat and, therefore, could only guess whay he was being such a slowpoke.

"Alright...I think I'm ready..." he groaned, straightening. Reluctantly he moved out of the shade of the old palm and started towards the village.

As he drew closer, he unhooked the sling he'd put Myrrh into and tucked her under his arm instead to give her an opportunity to stretch. He was starting to feel apprehensive. As much as he didn't want to admit it, he'd missed his rather obnoxious charge.

He couldn't help but wonder if she'd missed him too.

"Here we go..." Progolo breathed, stepping up onto the stoop of number one.

((She's all yours after this post. ^^ Welcome back!))

The few weeks Progolo had been away had been kind to the household of number one. Kala had plenty of chance to play with Blanche, Blanche had Kala's company, Emi didn't feel as guilty about not taking Blanche out so much and everything had been hunky dory. So good, that maybe the white spellweaver had forgotten that everything was to come too soon to a slow end.

It had been a long day for both Aerandir and guardian. Now, sat on the porch, lay Toby, muzzle rested onto his paws. The snow fairies danced all the way around him, offering and pushing bones, treats and even chocolate in his direction: Toby was in bliss. His tail thumped in his sleep, the old dog thoroughly enjoying his doze while the rest of the household got used to the new changes.

Kala, rather confused by the latest events, stood on the coffee table. How she'd gotten up there was anyone’s guess, but her long sinuous neck pressed up and on towards the two on the sofa. This morning, Blanche had been curled up beside her taking a nap, now she sat on the couch a heck of a lot bigger.

Kala was confused. What did those glowing gems do to her friend?

Worried dull golden eyes blinked, pressing one cloven hoof before the other. The gryphon squawked, and if she could have: her bottom lip would be well and truly bitten.

Blanche sat, or rather leant back up against Emi, on the sofa. She wriggled her toes, still completely alien to the sensation of not having to walk on all fours. Large golden eyes blinked, watching Kala. Without a word spoken, white furry arms reached out towards the flamingo gryphon. On one arm, her newly found gems were wrapped around: each singular bauble glowing and gleaming under the setting suns light.

"Come on up then Kala," Emi spoke quietly, leaning one arm out to pluck Kala from her perch and right into Blanche's lap. Which, of course, the newly formed child did her best to cheer the other up.

This was no good, no good at all! Kala hopped on squishy thighs, tilting her chin up towards Blanche's shoulder. How we're they supposed to perform their circus tricks now, Blanche certainly couldn't hop onto her back like they had been for the past few times. Nether the less, Kala bent her knees in, finding it far more comfortable to lay in this new found lap.

"Squark," She enquired rather loudly, so loudly in fact that Progolo would have been able to hear it from the outside of the door. Inclining her neck towards the older little girl, Kala's beak swiped over Blanche's shoulder blade.

Blanche didn't even dare reply, her ears flicking, metal chinking against metal. Bringing her palm down, she ran her fingers lightly over Kala's chiseled out beak, tracing the pink feathers with her little finger. She didn't know what to do in truth.

Disturbing all thoughts between the two Aerandir, which might have been a good thing at that moment, Emi's ears twitched as she heard someone approach. Carefully pulling herself up to her feet, she trod the last few steps to the door, pulling it open.
Whether it was by surprise or not, the woman beamed upon seeing the older male. He was alright, he really was ok.

Progolo had been in the act of extending his hand to knock when a familiar call was sounded and the door abruptly opened by the young Furry woman. Taken off-guard, he hesitated for an awkward moment before smiling.

"Well, hello," he said. "I believe you have something of mine."

Myrrh was, as usual, ecstatic to meet someone. She purred so loudly, so hard, that Progolo could feel his arm vibrating.

Kala immediately stood in Blanche's lap and easily peered over her shoulder. She recognized that voice...that purr...It was her Person and the Fluffy Blue Thing! She made an odd sound, something akin to the bleating of a goat, and scrambled ungracefully onto the floor.

Her hooves closed the distance between the couch and Emi's ankles in a matter of moments, furling out her wings to help her slow to a stop as she's learned. Once there, she practically pranced in place. She'd almost thought she wouldn't see them again! It was true, he wasn't quite as much fun as Blanche, Emi, and the the furball known as Toby, but he was still her Person.

And Blanche should definetly meet him, she decided. After all, she...well...she sort of looked like a Person, now...

She clicked her beak in the other Aerandir's direction, a mixture of emotions coursing through her form.

The little girl peeled back as the fellow spellweaver ran off. Rather curious to where she had gone, Blanche slowly (and ever so carefully) slid off the sofa. She wobbled for a moment; things had been so much easier on all fours! Taking one step at a time, the female Aerandir poofed her tail out behind her to keep her balance, pristine white paws jutting out.

She made it to Emi without that much hassle, a sudden smile spreading from one side of her lips to the other. She did it! Now, where had Kala gone? Apparently she hadn't noticed Progolo yet, and it wasn't until that loud hum of a purr hit her now so delicate ears that her golden gaze lifted. It was him, vague blurry memories of fridges and of him looking far pastier dancing in front of her.

Blanche opened her mouth, but promptly closed it a moment later, white fingers reaching out for Emi's hand.

Lifting one paw up carefully as Kala sped past her, Emi chuckled happily. Kala really had missed him, and from his guesture - he'd missed her just as much. True, it was nice to have her around, but Kala belonged with Progolo. A pleasant smile stayed splattered on her face, only pausing when a white little girl padded up beside her.

"We were starting to get worried," Emi stated honestly, her hand meeting that of her daughters. Curling her fingers around Blanche's, she squeezed her hand gently: her own little way of confirming that it would be alright. It worked, the little Aerandir child beside her visibly relaxing a moment later.

Her tail flicked behind her, would he want to come in or just head home straight away? She did have a few bits and bobs to sort out; maybe it would be best just to invite him in...

Progolo's dull eyes lit up as the pink gryphon peeled into view, finding himself excited.

"Kala!" he cooed, shifting Myrrh and stooping down to see her better. She was more hyper than he'd ever seen her, pawing and prancing in place. "What have you been up to, young lady?"

She emitted another strange bleat and, at once, wanted to convey all of the things she'd done. She ought to show him the circus trick--!

The thought died immediately as the Blanche-person shuffled to the door. How could she have forgotten?

Progolo's brows rose at the sight of the handsome little girl. He straightened cautiously. Though he still easily towered over Blanche, it was he who was suddenly intimidated.

"Wow," he intoned, for lack of anything more substantial to say.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 23, 2006 4:15 pm

Emi said nothing for now, just watching the happy reunion play out like a cinema ticket in front of her. Instead, she watched the little girl at her sides reaction. Watched Blanche just watch this man, her pawed out toes physically moving underfoot. Her tail still jutted out behind her, long wavy white hair cascading back around her shoulders so neatly.

It wasn't until Progolo noticed her that Blanche moved. Her golden eyes widened as he stood up so cautiously, white paws tripping back over one another. The little girl stood lamb to the slaughter on the spot, her white fingers craving the attention of the baubles wrapped so gently around her white arm.

Finally, after a moment, she smiled. He was Kala's guardian, he couldn't be that bad - could he? She didn't say a word, Blanche just smiled: her lips twitching lightly upwards as he gazed over towards her. After all, first impressions were everything, and a vague memory told her Emi said he would be teaching her this thing called 'magic' in the end.

Emi faltered on the spot, she could understand why he had rose so cautiously. Blanche really was a sight to behold, then again any child Aerandir really was something to see. The parent couldn't help but smile proudly, letting her daughters hand loose.
"We finally received the gemstones yesterday, so this morning we headed up to the lodge," Emi commented, now really would be the time to bring him in for a cup of tea, right?

White fingers curled slightly as they were released, opening her mouth for a second: did she dare? No, not yet. Without her beak the little girl was sure any sounds wouldn't be able to come out at all.

Progolo relaxed slightly when he saw Emi smile out of the corner of his eye. Still surprised, he nevertheless tried to say something a bit more eloquent than his last attempt at words had been. "Just today, then? I mean...the quest...er...growth...thing...then..."

Wow, that was even worse than the last shot, Progolo thought as his words petered out. He cleared his throat. "I brought something for you, Blanche," he tried again, trying to sound warm. He reached into his pocket and drew out a glittering blue object.

User Image

"It's an amulet. I thought...it might help with her training. It will keep her from tiring out as quickly," he explained, finally making up for his lack of verbal expertise. He held it out, dangling it by its silver chain. It was very cold to the touch--rather delightful in the Ar'Idil heat.

With this, his attention shifted almost apologetically to Emi. "How did it go?" he queried. "Kala wasn't too much of a handful, I hope?

Meanwhile, Kala was winding around the three Persons' feet like a cat...first Emi, then Blanche, then Progolo. Enough of this standing around, already!
