Name: Codi
Scroll: Wasp
Skill: Regenative stingers
Skill Expanded: Codi has a slight problem sitting in most chairs due to the stinger on his backside. He can sting people, and hopefully they don't have an allergic reaction to bees. Unlike most wasps though, stinging someone doesn't kill him. Codi will simply regenerate his stinger. Unfortunatly it is usually quite painful to do so. The more often it happens, the quicker his stinger regenerates and the less painful it becomes.
Skill classification: Warrior

This journal is for Codi and Fuego. Only the shop staff, Aaron Arrikanez, and those he invites may post.

Probation begins Sept. 1

[ Buzz Buzz - Finding the Scroll ]

It was quite literally a dark and stormy night. The wind howled, and the trees swayed with the rain pouring down on poor Fuego's head. Now, being half fire-elemental, out in the rain was NOT a place Fuego particularly wanted to be. Nor, he thought bitterly, did he want to be saddled with an antiques delivery to some place downtown that he'd never even knew existed, let alone heard of.
The delivery business was booming, but Fuego was starting to have had just about enough of running to and fro for his employer. True, he got money, and that money helped pay his way for the apartment he was currently living in... but the man he worked for was ALWAYS drunk, liked to take his agressions out on Fuego physically, and made him do hard deliveries that should be handled by companies closer to the destination. Regardless, a job was a job. No matter how icky and gloomy it was outside, Fuego had to play paper-boy with a few dozen books, to be delivered 'as is' to an antiques shop called Knick Knacks and Ends just south of downtown. He was not pleased.
His mood considerably improved, however, when he stepped into the shop to be greeted by a brisk rubdown with a towel, and a kind gentlemen taking the package from his hands, and bidding him sit by the roaring fire that was blazing in the fireplace. Fuego more than oblidged, and was soon loaded with hot cocoa [with marshmellows!], a blanket, and some extra clothes. The man was adamant that he was going to have a word with Fuego's boss about sending him out in this weather. Though he DID seem grateful to recieve the package on time. He also mentioned something about having a package for Fuego himself. That was odd. The fire Arrikanez hadn't sent or recieved any mail in literal years. Not one to look a gift-horse in the mouth, he accepted the package without fanfare, and hopped onto his bike to pedal home.
It was still raning when Fuego finally reached the doors of his apartment, soaked, and in need of a shower. He forwent both of these to satiate his curiousity. He opened the neatly wrapped package, and tossed the paper. Inside was an intricately carved wooden box with a picture of Anubis etched into the grain of the wood. Ever the more curious, he flipped open the top of the thing to see what lie inside. Before he actually got to the object, there was a note that he had to read. He picked up the paper, and let his eyes scan the text. It was very rare that anyone wrote him.

Quote:
Dear Nephew,
You have only met me once, and I remember you from when you were small. My name is Tamari, and I am your uncle. I had heard from my brother that you were interested in artifacts and odd findings, so I went searching for a gift. I found this. I think you will be very pleased with it. Please handle with care.

- Love, Tamari

Well, that was odd to say the least. He didn't think he'd ever heard of a Tamari in the family. With a shrug, he set the letter aside, and took what look like a worn leather scroll-case from the box. It was bound with red leather straps, like belts, and bore no seal or symbol to hint at what was inside. Once again prey to curiousity, the fire Arrikanez popped open the top, and caught the scroll that slid out.
He didn't know what he was expecting. A treasure map? Ancient writing? A curse in blood? But what he wasn't expecting was a large scroll, with one one drawing on it. The picture of a wasp. It made him strangely excited to handle it, and he carefully rolled it back up, slipping it back into the case. Another bit of paper fell from the back of the case, listing an address. Hmm... perhaps he might have to visit this place....

[ Unsealing ]

The phone had rung, shrilly, on Dr. Smith's desk deep in the bowels of the Royal Library. When the said person picked it up he was bemused to find a voice inquiring about a scroll. He promised to send his 'assistants' out to take a preliminary look at the scroll. Just to see if it was real or not. If it was, then they shouldn't move such an excellent find, and if it wasn't.. Well Dr. Smith didn't need to go out himself (being such a dignified Historian and all). Or so was the reasoning he told the caller.

In reality Dr. Smith would have loved to go take a look at the scroll, real or not. But Mr. Mysterious had put a stop to that notion long ago. Without explaining why or how or even what, he had simply decreed that only he and Nara should go and investigate scrolls. It was rudeness! Only his loyalty as a Historian to Nara had prevented the old man from thumbing his nose at the decree.

So off Nara and Mr. Mysterious had gone, to see if the scroll was important or not.

Nara exited the cab slowly as her partner paid the driver, silent as always. Slowly she walked up to the apartment, knocking firmly on the door.

Fuego yawned softly, and reached over to slap his alarm clock, before he realized that it wasn't exactly going off. He sighed, and threw off the covers, slipping out of the warm (if messy) caccoon, and staggered to the door. He still had his shirt off, and those deep orange pants he was using for PJs at the moment. He took a brief look at himself in the mirror, and ran a comb through his hair to straighten out the random strands.

"JUST A MINUTE!" he called quickly, knowing his voice would carry to the door.

He sighed, and left the one strand that refused to cooperate, pulling on a black shirt, and smoothing it over his thin form before finally answering the door, and opening his eyes wide enough that he looked like he hadn't been asleep.

"Yeah? Can I do somethin' for ya?"

The man who opened the door was staring at her strangely, eyes wide. "Er.. Yes, I'm Nara and this is my partner." She gestured at the dour, cloak shrouded person standing next to her. Said partner inclined his head towards the young man. "Dr. Smith sent us from the Royal Library of Alexandria to investigate a scroll?" The question sounded more hesitant than usual. She could bare feel the presence of a scroll around the place. It seemed vauge and nebulous and the Relic was unable to pin it down.

Impatiently she shifted from foot to foot, it was horrible to have to wait around for someone to bring scrolls to them.

"A scroll...." Fuego blinked, and rubbed his chin a bit. "Oh! You mean the one that my uncle sent me, right? I'll go get it."

Whistling, he took off in a jaunty stride to slip into the living room, where he'd put the box on the table. He took the box, and lifted it, holding it under one arm while he walked back to the door. He set the thing on a table, opened it, and withdrew the scroll from its case. He grinned.

"This thing? I just recieved it a few days ago, so I wasn't exactly sure just what to do with it. I'm afraid I can't sell it though - personal attachment to the sender and all that."

Nara waited impatiently for the young man to return from fetching the scroll. As she did so the young woman scanned the room, trying to get a feel for the inhabitant. So far all the others had chosen to keep the children, to Nara's immense delight, but it would be nice to make sure they could keep any child that came from this.

It seemed a perfectly ordinary apartment though. Nothing to strange or out of the ordinary. No sooner had Fuego crossed back into the 'hallway' than Nara's palms began to itch. Digging her nails into her palms the woman smiled as if nothing was out of the ordinary. The young man withdrew the scroll with agonizing slowness.

"Yes, yes, of course.." Nara replied distractedly. "We simply need to know for the records, research and what not..." She could feel her partner moving slowly away from her, trying to get into position in the cramped hallway. "If you could place it there on the floor for a moment?" the woman asked.

Fuego blinked, and shook his head.

"Why don't we do whatever you're going to do in the living room. It's a lot less cramped than THIS space. Both of you, come on in."

He opened the door wider, allowing both of them passage, and made his way to the living room, where he set the scroll on the coffee-table there.

"Shut the door behind you please!"

Nara beamed and clasped her hands behind her back. A firm reminder not to scratch at her palms distracted the woman for just a moment. "Eh? Uh, yes of course. That would be wonderful!" Quickly pushing the door shut with her foot, Nara followed her hooded partner into living room. For a moment the two jostled each other around the table. With a wave of her hand Nara gestured to Fuego. "Could you stand... Right about there?" She pointed to a spot at roughly sixty degrees from where both her and her partner. "For the lighting..."

Nara nearly winced. It sounded like a lame excuse to her too, but people gave such a fuss when you said you were going to release a child from the paper. Too much arguing and her hands itching all the time. Best to do it and apologize later... Or not at all. That was alwasy nice. Abruptly she shook her head, focusing on the scroll and Fuego.

"Mree? Here?"

Fuego blinked, and walked over to stand where he was told to. He was seriously wondering what the hey was going on, but he wasn't about to argue, or to say anything against whatever it was. Afterall, he was always up for an adventure.

"Ok... now what? Lighting? What do you mean? Are you guys filming this scroll or something?"

He crossed his arms, and leaned back against the wall, watching the two, and flicking his eyes to the scroll occasionally.

"Ok, so it's a scroll - a sentimental artifact from a person I rarely see... Why do you have to film it?"

"Ah.. no..." Nara replied distractedly to his question, as he moved into place. About to explain that they weren't really filming just... authenticating and stuff, the woman drifted off. As soon as Fuego completeled the equilateral triangle all feeling dissapeared.

As with every other child unsealed so far, a green mist flowed out of Nara's hands and to Mr. Mysterious and Fuego. The mist linked everyone in a soft cool cacoon of color. A whoosh of displaced air heralded the arrival of a toddler, as small eddies accompandied the air. Nara bent over as the mist dissapeared, breathing heavily.

As the green mist cleared a toddler with jet black hair and reddish skin looked out at Fuego. Deliberately he stuck a finger in his mouth and began to suck.

Fuego's eyes went wide as saucepans.

"A k...k...k...kid?!"

He immediately went forward, and scooped the boy up into his arms, snuggling him for all he was worth.

"A kid!"

He thought for a moment, and beamed over at the others, rocking the boy gently in his arms.

"I think I'll name him Codi. What do you guys think?"

He took remarkably well to such a large shock as having a toddler appear pretty much out of nowhere.

-- And that's how Codi was unsealed from his scroll--
