Part One: Stories

*=Primitive Element (see post 4) +=Note
* ONE
This one is easy. It looks like a sideways numeral one. Won't be too hard to forget it. I 1 3nodding
on yomi=イチ、イツ
kun yomi=ひと、ひとつ

TWO
Like the kanji for one, two isn't very hard either. It also looks like a sideways numeral 2. Roman numeral that is. II ninja
+The top stroke is slightly shorter than the bottom stroke.
on yomi=ニ、ジ
kun yomi=ふた、ふたつ

Three
Once again the kanji for three looks like the numeral III.
on yomi=サン、ゾウ
kun yomi=み、みつ
+The middle strkoe is smaller than the other two strokes.

FIVE
Story unavailable. burning_eyes
on yomi=ゴ

* SEVEN
Story unavailable. burning_eyes

EIGHT
The numeral 8 is usually smaller on top and bigger on bottom. The first stroke is smaller than the second.
Heisig san
And just as the "lazy eight" (cannot find the symbol burning_eyes ) is the mathematical symbol for "infinity," so the expanse opened up below these two strokes is associated by the Japanese with the sense of an infinate expanse or something "all-encompassing."

Strokes And Kanji Used As Primitive Elements

In his book, primitive elements are strokes or sometimes other kanji that make up other kanji. You do not need to memorize them, but they can help. 3nodding

When above it's meaning is ceiling. When below, it's meaning is floor.

Top hat

Animal Legs

Human legs

Diced

Sometimes keeps the meaning of ten.
Sometimes takes the meaning needle.

No we weren't. I'm not sure if I said it before, but I'll say it now anyways. I'm not very good at teaching. That's one reason why I said I'd use Heisig san's method. I also said in my first post that I would close it if I didn't feel it would help.

Oh.. I guess I missed that part.... oops!

Well you should still teach I think. I don't know about his methods but the more threads dedicated to kanji, I think will make Freakezette happier.

I know the KANJI SITE has some kanji you can use... I don't remember the URL but if you go to google search KANJI the first one should be like the kanji site and click it and search and you can get stuff. There's also another site for like easier kanji and it shows those shapes turn into kanji.

Yes it probably would make her happier. 3nodding

I know that site. It's just sometimes I prefer to hear it from others because sometimes websites can be completely wrong.

Japanese Step by Step is kinda good with kanji. Though they only have a glossary with like 500 and they only have kun'yomi. But they explain a good bit about it!

Right now I'm looking for books with more kanji, I found this great one just I lost it and I don't know the name. sweatdrop I hope I can find it because it was really informative and showed how the kanji was transformed from the object it was.
