Theatre in the Round= Stage surrounded by audience on all sides.

I have KINDA performed in the round. We had audience on three sides and then the back wall was our "set." Personally I hated it cus we were so close to the front row and rude people that talked through the show keep throwing me off. Plus the set up made it impossible to people to walk from wing to wing. So where you exited is where you entered next from automatically.

I mean, the show was written FOR theatre in the round and it would have not been the same any other way, but personally I didn't like acting in it.

We also had problems with is on the LAST show we did. I was on set moving crew and at one point all of us had to be on the same side to move stuff. Two of us literally had to creep OUT of the theatre and creep back in another door. But again, the show wouldn't have been the same without it.

Damn that Alice in Wonderland set kicked a**.

I sorta did something like that In Honk Jr. There wasn't a curtain and the stage went out into the audience there was just the back wall where the set was. It was pretty cool.

I've acted in the round once, which was really not for the 1-act I was in (Hard Candy, for anyone who knows of it) since it involved one-on-one interviews and you can't project as well as you should.
I have seen two things in the round. One is the new theatre at the Oregon Shakespere Festival (I didn't see the show, but the set that was already up was pretty cool). The other is a company in Sacremento called Music Circus where they do about 5 musicals per year in that style of theatre. I saw Pirates of Penzance, which was pretty good.

I havn't done theater in the round myself yet, but I have seen it done a couple times. Story of Susannah and Proof. Maybe another. I can't remember. They were absolutly awesome. I love watching it. It's so unique!

I love doing theatre in the round. We do 80% of our plays in the round because we like to physically connect with the audience. It's so much nicer to SEE your audience. Also, you don't get so nervous because you're not "on stage." At least I don't. Also, you get to do cool things like talk to audience members and put clothes on them and sit on their laps and oh I love it.

While I haven't done a full fledged play, I've done a few skits in the round, and I found it hard. I basically had to completely disregard that had been so heavily pounded into my brain, "never turn your back on the audience"

Stage on three sides=thrust. ^^

I've performed in the round. Once. Rather in the square. Our seating units formed a square with about 5 feet of space between them for actors/techies to move around and behind them and then the platforms were in the middle of the seating units. It was a b***h to set up and a b***h to perform in. Cause the first rule they teach you is to not show your back to the audience and so you feel a bit....phobic. Or maybe it's just me.

The only play I've ever been in the round(square) for really had to be that way, though. It was totally sweet how we made use of the spaces between the seating units. There were actors flying out from everywhere. I swear it was like a swarm of bees. But with actors.

I've haven't done it, but I've seen it. One of the worst performances I've ever seen. They tried to do Joseph in the round...with a recording instead of live music. Oye.

Eew. I hate when they even do Band-in-a-Box type things. They're becoming so much more common, too. But a RECORDING? And Joseph in the round? There's not much more you can do to kill that, no? confused

It was terrible. My director was pissed, and tried to make it into a learning experience. "Not all shows you see will be good.." XD

Yeah. Bet that went over well. My director would have most likely shot herself. Or complained to the other director. She can't deal with people just kind of....killing plays.
