How many of you aspies drive?
I'm 19 and I still don't have my drivers license. I got my learners permit at 17. My mom wants me to get my license, but my stepdad doesn't. He doesn't understand Aspergers at all. I took private lessons which I paid for.

I have my license, but it took me a very long time to get it. I didn't get it until last summer, at age 22. I took driver's ed with my school when I was 17, but I was very nervous and reluctant to drive (plus, all we had that I could drive was a mini-van, very difficult to maneuver, so that did not help). I didn't get enough practice in to even be able to take the test. I practiced on and off every summer when I was home for college but not consistently. I had a lot of problems understanding what I was supposed to do, and with my parents freaking out at me in the car it didn't make me any less nervous : / . Finally, last year I went for private driving lessons, and studied the driver's manual at home. I passed both the driving and the written test with 100%!

I wouldn't dare try. I can't focus my eyes on anything for more than five minues straight. If I were a driver, I'd feel sorry for my passengers.

My mom freaks out whenever I drive. I am pretty much a natural at it. I do have little problems regulating my speed, but it was never too fast or too slow.

I'm 16 (turning 17 this September) and I have my learner's permit. I've taken 16.5 hours of lessons.
(Here, one needs to be at least 16 years old and take a multiple choice test for a learner's permit, and at least 17 years old and take at least 50 hours of driving experience to be eligible for taking the test for a provisional licence.)
I tend to have the car too far to the left when driving, so that I get too close to the pavement / lane on my left. I sometimes have trouble looking at the right place. (Example: I tend to forget to look to the right and just look straight ahead when at a roundabout, when the rule is to give way to cars on your right.)

Got mine a year ago, when I was 18, but then I went away to college, not allowed a car as a freshman, and then come back to drive. Fun, fun. I drive fine as long as there isn't an annoying brother screaming at me 'cause he thinks my driving is horrible. The screaming is a huge distraction, worsening my driving and fulfilling his very words.

Mysterytrip I completed Drivers ed and I passed my permit test the first time. My mom and my step-dad are still arguing over whether I should get one or not. Go Team Mom!! Get one, what? A license? Or a car? Around here, you don't need a permit to drive, you can practice driving with an adult driver (25 or older) once you're 15 1/2. There are restrictions as to driving alone or how many passengers you can have for several months after getting the license, if you are under 18, however.

I have my driver's licence, got it at 19 right at the end of high school. I really don't like driving much mainly because of the people on the road, and I get a bit pariniod about how much distance between each car I can be before I can drive into the highway, and it tends to piss off quite a bit of people (including my brother that drives with me) also at times even if I do see into the next lane, somebody will drive right up to me right as I'm turning, kind of annoying. Worst problem is that sometimes I have a hard time paying attention to every detail I need to in order to prevent myself from getting into a car crash. (I like my old a** Volvo and I want it to last as long as it can)

My step-dad has been in a bad mood for the past nine months because of his job paying him a lot less than his old one, so he's negative about everything. He's just afraid that I'll plow down every kid in the neighborhood. Kids in my neighborhood never go into the front yard without parental supervision so he has nothing to worry about. I also have a bit of slow reaction time.

I can drive. I'm strictly speaking on my Learners Licence(I must have someone with a full licence in the car with me, and I can't drive after 10pm), but I'm pretty much ready to sit my restricted...I just want to get a couple of lessons with a qualified driving instructor so he can catch any bad habits I've gotten into, then I'm good to go.
The system here is Learners(sit a written rode code test, then if you pass you can get into a car and learn to drive), Restricted(you can drive alone up to 10pm at night) and Full. You can drive legally at 15(if you have your learners) here, and I got my learners at 16, but I'm now 22 and I've only been learning for the past 2 years. I didn't buy a car until I was 20, and I rode a small motorbike(under a certain cc rating you can drive motorbikes on a Learners for car) so had no incentive to learn how to drive a car.
