How many flute/piccolo players got a lot of cr@p from people when American Pie came out?! I couldn't escape idiots asking if I'd ever done what Allison Hannigan's character says she did in the movie. So gross.
What did you say to their stupid comments?
Feel free to vent your anger here.

Sometimes when I tell people I was in marching band in high school; I panic when they ask what instrument I played, because I think they might bring up that stupid movie

I remember a student teacher I had freshman year. She started going into a story that placed her at band camp. When she realized what she was about to say, she changed it to "music camp" at the last second.
People still asked her if she had fun at band camp.
My speech teacher was a bit trashy. I remember someone asking her if she ever went to band camp, and she was offended at first. Eventually she decided to play along and said, "Sure. Give me a flute right now and I'll show you." This was a few weeks after I started playing flute in band. I just happened to have it sitting under my desk, so I put it together and gave it to her.
(It didn't work, btw.)

I can't recount my times at band camp without starting with "This one time at band camp...". Everyone looks at me funny when I talk to them about it.

We're sort of lucky in that we don't march flute or piccolo.
Our only flute players in the band march alto sax.

I didn't get a lot of crap because no one had watched it. I was young back then. Last night I saw band camp. All I can say is wow.

Ash Rail We're sort of lucky in that we don't march flute or piccolo. Our only flute players in the band march alto sax. Our band dosen't march any woodwinds. Our BD makes the woodwinds learn a second instrument.

SesshysTrueLove I found the movie funny. You shouldn't let something fiction bother you, and if you do, then that's too bad. rolleyes I thought parts of it were funny, too, just the whole band camp thing pissed me off. I mean, show me one person that would actually do that to their flute, and I'll stop bitching about it. Another thing is how we, the band kids (flute inparticular), were ragged on after it came out. I know my friends did it. I just slapped them up-side the head for it, or laughed and told them to shut up. I can't tell any of my band camp stories to anyoen outside of the band without shuddering. (Because I have to start them with "One time, at band camp...")

The band camp thing never bothered me that much. O_o;; Am I the only one? I mean, my freshman year of high school, even our flute shirts on the front said "One time, at band camp..." The section leaders, of course, asked us first if any of us would be offended by the shirt, but I think only one person raised her hand to say she was. One out of like... 50 flutes.
And yeah, people have mention stuff about "band camp" to me... like I'll begin a story with "One time..." and they'd finish "... at band camp..." and I'd just roll my eyes, say "I've never even been to band camp..." and continue my story. They'd look at my flute shirt and be like "... wow, that's dirty," but I don't mind it too much.

Actually I never really got nailed for that. I've actually never SEEN any American Pie movies but I'm a flute player in Band so I know the famous 'One time at Band Camp...' lines by heart and say them often. But then again, I'm the type of person who will joke about that kind of stuff. I use that joke on myself so many times and the people who know me know that I'm just kidding around.

One time at music camp, there was this really really annoying girl that kept on saying 'one time at band camp'. No one talked to her, she had no friends, she quit flute, and she now plays recorder in her spare time.
I don't play flute, nor am I a girl, but I get crap for it anyway.
