now i will teach verb form, for beginner though, i cannot cover all verb form today, but i will get to, so can intermediate wait plz?

definition= there are 3 type japanese verb: yodan and ichidan and irregular

yodan verb: these verb end in ku,su,u,tsu,ru,nu,bu,gu,mu and ru, they have close conjugation and it is different from ichidan conjugation

ichidan verb: end in ru. this can get confusing, good thing to help is that the end in -iru or -eru, but sometime -iru and -eru ending verb are yodan. for conjugation they drop -ru while yodan -ru ending verb become -ri

irregular- can be totally different, there are only 5 irregular verb, kuru, suru, iku(slightly), aru (in negative) and irassharu
PostPosted: Fri Jun 16, 2006 4:38 pm

verb form:

infinitve- with "u" syllable still on, it like "to[insert verb]" in english

negative= if taberu means do eat then tabenai means dont eat

te- this called because verb end in -te or -de, it used in suffix combonation (intermediate lvl) by itself it plain command

e- informal command (this time it IS only for freind and family)

stem- this not stand alone, it is the root of conjugation and tense

ichidan verb= these are easy so i teach first

verb taberu=to eat
example=
infinitive= taberu

negative= tabenai

te= tabete

e= tabero
stem= tabe

review= in ichidan verb you drop -ru (all ichidan verb have -ru at end, but sometime -ru ending verb is yodan, most ichidan verb end in -iru or
-eru, but still sometime those can be yodan verb0 and add conjugation suffix

in negative drop ru and add -nai (minai, inai, oboenai)

te- drop -ru add te (mite,ite,oboete)

e- change -ru to ro (miro,iro,oboero)

stem- drop -ru (mi,i,oboe)

difference between ichidan and yodan can change meaning=

kaeru(yodan) = to come home

kaeru(ichidan)= to exchange

their conjugation show difference

yodan verb=

these are different, it depend on what syllable end it. Syallable which always yodan are su,ku,tsu,mu,gu,nu,bu and u. Ru can be both yodan and ichidan

su

neg.= hanasanai

te=hanashite

e=hanase

stem=hanashi

review=

for yodan verb ending in su replace -su with the conjugation suffix you want

neg.=-sanai

te-= -shite

e=-se

stem=-shi

remember to drop -su and place the correct suffix
