Well, he has a better rounded personality and is better character-wise in the movie. I really don't have a personal opinion on Raoul anyway.
Tell you what, though. Patrick Wilson's mullet hair was a bit weird. Maybe it's just me, but no man with that much money should be going around with a mullet.

or maybe a guy with all that money can "afford" to look weird, or just pay off anybody who thinks so XP

"Mommy, that man looks weird!" "*hands little girl 500 francs* Keep quiet. >>"

Why would anyone run around with that hair, though? I know he's supposed to look effeminate, but add boobs and you've got a woman. O_o

Well, honestly, the movie was my first exposure to Phantom of the Opera. I did dislike him, but disliked him further in the original novel. Though sometimes I sympathize for him (though that depends on my mood).
But comparing the movie and the book, I think he's got more of a personality in the former. Though yes, the hair has got to go. Long hair I usually like, but for some reason not on him. Instead, it creeps me out.

The Phantom movie was also my first brush with Erik, and I started out hating Raoul, because, well Erik is cooler. He's grown on me over time though, to the point where I could be called a 'fop lover'.

I agree. I know it was fairly common for men to have shoulder-length hair or hair a little longer than that, but it's always pulled back with a ribbon. His was just there, like, "I'm the fop's HAIR! Pet me!"

But if you've seen Patrick Wilson without that long hair, you kinda appreciate the mullet. His short, nearly bald haircut is more fear-enducing.

Heh, yeah. We can't have a frightening Raoul, now can we? That would destroy the whole "Erik is scary HOLD ME!" thing Christine has going for her. Instead, she'd be running to Erik. I'm sure Erik would be pleased, but that would just ruin the story. blaugh Apologies, I'm a tad hyper right now.

I'm sure.
"Raoul! I'm frightened, Hold me-- *stare* ERIK! I'm frightened! sex me up with your music to make the scary near-baldness go away!"

*Laughs at Utakan's post* Yes, really. That would certainly make an interesting alternative universe for the PotO world...

I'm considering attempting a phanphic in which Raoul is three dimensional and actually tolerable. I may push for likeable, but tolerable will do. It will be a story where nobody gets Christine, but she's forced by both men to figure herself out. She has to spend a year depending on herself and herself alone, and sort things out. But I need to find more plot points for that to work... bah. And I have no clue how it'd end...

Besides, right now I'm considering an E/C where Erik gives up his voice to a witch in order to get his looks. Yes, it IS Little Mermaid inspired.

...Right, now that I've gotten completely off topic. ^^;

I can see both arguments about Raoul; whether people like him or not. For example, the dressing room scene where he decides they're going out to dinner no matter what Christine says. My initial reaction was "What the HELL? Go AWAY, you sexist!" and so on. But after thinking about it... Raoul might not have taken Christine's "Angel of Music" stuff literally, and thus thought she was the one setting limitations on herself. And what do friends do, but make you loosen up once in a while?

I guess it depends on what mood I'm in. I see both ways, so it gets confusing. Then again, I'm easily confused.

That actually sounds like a nice phic idea. I haven't seen any where Christine takes neither. Whole new trend. XD

But I'm with you. I really have no solid opinion on Raoul. He is simple a character and I can be for and against him in many things. I never hated him, never loved him, just sort of went "okay, he's there and he's silly-looking." I think a lot of people over-react toward their dislike of his person. Then again, plenty of people (including a close friend o' mine) over-react to Christine's choice at the end. "Omg, b***h!"
But anyway. I agree, Jurori. =3

Man, that sounds really interesting, but then it's a line between the passion of the soul and then the heated passion of the flesh. *scratches head* But if he gives up his voice he'll be losing his only connection with Christine...what about his genius?? *tears out hair in frustration*

...oh crap

*runs to the wig store, but they only have FOP wigs*
NOOOOO!!!!! @.@ *falls to knees in agony*
*cough* anyways >.>....what was this topic about again?
