A large white figure lay still and silent on the earth, left there as if to die in a pool of his own blood. His white fur was stained with the blood that flowed freely from the many wounds and gashes along his body, once magnificent wings broken, torn from him to leave nothing but more scars.
He laid still for so long, that if one were watching they'd think he was dead, but the labored rise and fall of his chest would prove that untrue. Who knows how long he had laid there before he finally stired, one green eye opened to the world he now found himself in. With a loud, booming, furious roar, he sent any scavengers that had gathered fleeing in terror, they'd have to search elsewhere.
So he was alive... Fools, they'd regret not finishing him off when they had the chance, the white lion would see to that. Even as he was broken, he swore it.
He shifted, all too aware of the pain that radiated through his body with every movement, his body protesting as he placed his paws under him and struggled to lift himself from the ground.

Unknown the the lion, a smaller feathered creature had been watching him. Perched on the branch of a nearby tree, the avian had looked on, watching silently as if waiting.
He didn't seem especially thrilled to be there, but he didn't seemed to be bothered by the lion's presence either, or by what had bound him there. Little did he know how that would change, how the mocking grin he wore would fade, and the hatred that would quickly grow between these two creatures.
When the lion roard, the avian's wings ruffled, fluttering unhappily at the magnitured of the sound, but he kept his perch. He remained silent for some time, watching the great creature's struggles, the new blood that flowed over white fur with every movement.
"Oh, how the mighty have fallen."
His tone was mocky, meant to sting, to get under the lion's skin and elicit a response.

The lion's fur bristled, his head snapping around at the sound of the mocking voice, a menacing snarl parting his jaws, his eyes narrowed at the audacious creature.
"What do you want?!"
His words were a growl, a threat, a warning that if the feathered creature valued it's life it would shut up and be on its way. The great lion was not in the mood for games and he would not have hesitated to tear anyone who dared cross his path to shreads. Injured or not, he was still a god, and there was still power in him.
It was in that moment that Tanaka, god of conflict, realized he could only see from one eye, the image of the left being clawed from its socket flashed in his mind. The imaage only served to intensify his anger, and with a snarl he wheeled around to face the creature that had dared speak to him.

The avian's white feathers ruffled, but he didn't seem all that concerned by the lion's behavior. He was awfully brave for one so much smaller, certainly the lion could have taken him with one snap of his jaws.
"You really need to work on that temper of yours."
Fluttering from his perch, the bird hovered before the large lion, nearly landing on his muzzle. It was a dangerous perch, at this rate his boldness was certain to get him eaten.
"The name is Shiki...Tanaka, god of conflict."

The lion's growled, jaws snapping on the bird's tail, plucking several white feathers from the annoying creature. Turning his head he spat the feathers out in disgust.
"I don't care who you are, pest, or how you know my name."
With a warning growl, the lion turned away. He wanted to get to the water, to clean his wounds and wash the blood from his hide and to quench his thirst.
As he took a few painful steps from the spot he had fallen, he glanced over his shoulder at the feathered annoyance. If the bird dared follow him, he rend the creature in half and satisfy his thirst with its blood.

The bird squawked, wings flapping furiously as he zipped from the lion's grip, glareing indignately at the fallen feathers. But he wasn't deterred, in fact it had only made him angry.
"You know you really are a jerk, no wonder the other gods don't like you."
Ignoring the lion's warning, Shiki flew after the fallen god, daring to land on the short golden mane that topped that massive head, his feathers ruffled in anger. Snort, stupid lion, as if he was there by choice.

Tanaka snarled, large fanges bared menacingly in massive jaws. Dark talons emerged from white paws, he swatted at the bird that buzzed around his head.
"Get away from me you pest, or I will rip you in half!"
The lion was furious. As if losing his wings and being thrown to the mortal realm wasn't enough, now this -thing- wouldn't leave him alone. What the hell did it want anyways...besides to be a snack.
"I'm not interested in your opinions."

Wings ruffled, the avian zipped from his perch, narrowing avoiding the large talons that threatened to rend him. Snorting, and squawking indignately, he hovered just above the lion's ear, agitated and already looking rather worn, but unyielding.
"Afraid not, fuzzball, though don't think I wouldn't leave if I could."
His previous attituded had changed in barely a moment. This lion was cruel, foul-tempered, and a jerk. Already the avian disliked him, something that was quick turning to hate.
"Through some cruel twist of fate, we are bound together, get used to it."

Snarling, Tanaka turned to snap at the feathered pest again, a low growl rumbling in his deep chest.
"Not if I have anything to say about it."
The lion's steps were more sure, though pain still radiated through him, it seemed more bearable now...or maybe it just wasn't as bad as the pest that insisted on following him.
"I'm warning you, get lost...unless you'd like to be a snack."
The lion meant it, he was beyond furious by now, his hatred and anger growing with ever step. If the bird dared to push again, if it chose to ignore his last warning, the last the it would feel would be the crunching of it's bones in the lions jaws, the flow of blood over its eyes as it took it's last breath.

The bird would have growled if he could, but instead he muttered and swore under his breath as he lost more feathers to the lion's jaws. His wings flapped furiously, holding his body aloft directly before the lion's eyes, small talons digging into his large black nose.
"We you don't have a say in the matter, so shut up and deal with it. For better or worse, mostly worse...., I am your familuar, and there's nothing you can do about it. Though I daresay I got the worse end of that bargin."

"Oh really...?"
The lion's paw surged, reached out to seize the bird in his grasp, ignoring the blood that flowed from the fresh scratches on his nose. With the winged rat in his grip, the lion squeezed, compressing the bird's body, the snap of feathers telling that the creature would break in half at any moment.
"You think so do you? And what's to stop me from simply crushing you now? You think some great power is going to save you now?"

The bird squawked loudly, struggling against the iron grip that held him. He could feel his bones compressing, near to snapping, was it his fate to die here? To fall at the paws of the one he had been so mercilessly bound too?
"That's not up to me!"
Shiki punctuated his exclamation with a sharp bite to the lion's paw. Even if it didn't force the lion to release him, perhaps it would cause him to loosen his grip enough to escape. And if not at least he could inflict some pain before he was crushed.

The lion's reaction was swift, near instant. Rather than ease his grip, he threw the feathered creature, flinging it away from him to send it sprawling in the dust.
"You're not worth the effort. Now be gone! I neither need nor want your presence. Familuar...hah! That's just a fancy word for a snack."
He wasn't interested anymore, and were the bird able to drag itself back to his side again, he'd simply have to crush it again, this time until it's bones snapped and blood spurted from it's broken body.

The bird skidded across the ground, skipping unceramoniously over a rock in his path, sprawling to a stop with a beak full of dust and dirt. Stupid lion, what a jerk, what had he done to be stuck with such a...monster.
"You won't be rid of me that easily demon! We are bound whether you like it or not!"
But the avian couldn't follow him, he was too battered, his feathers broken, he would have to sulk off someplace to nurse his bruised ego as well as his body. But he would be back, if he was going to be stuck with that infernal lion, he would make sure the beast suffered for it.

Tanaka didn't look back, he simply smirked in satisfaction.
"Demon huh? I like that, I guess you are useful for something."
He didn't stop, didn't pause to see what had become of the bird, he didn't care. The creature could die right there for all he cared, it would just mean there was one less annoyance in the world.
But someone, the lion had the feeling he hadn't seen the last of that creature. Snarly to himself at the thought, he flexed his talons as if threatening to maul it to shreds should it appear again.
"If I ever get my hands on whoever sent him..."
He snarled, fangs bared angrily, his talons marring the earth to indicate what he would do to that individual. For now however, the menace was dealt with, and he was left in peace to tend his wounds and harbor his hatred.
Someday...someday the gods would pay, his talons would rend them all to shreds and make them feel a pain far worse than his own, he swore it.
