Running was Autsu's new thing. Finally having gotten used to the weight of his wings (and the lack of a balancing tail) he was now steady on his feet. Walking had been mastered with great care, but running! Running! He loved the freedom. He loved the feeling, like he was back home, running drills again.

Which was why he was at the park for the second time that day, the sun drifting toward his horizon, and his two exhausted guardians sitting on a bench. Oh sure, the sky and his family might be tired, but he was still ready to go.

He could go forever.

Making sure to stay within sight (more for his comfort than there's) he waved awkwardly over his shoulder and simply bolted in one direction, letting the feeling of wind over feathers comfort him.

There was so much he was unsure of. So much he didn't understand. Like his feelings for his family. His longing for home, for Narin. His anger at them. The strange mix of feelings, childish urges clashing with an adult intelligence.

Everything.

But this. He could understand running.

Jii was Kians new thing! Jii was the tiny bundle of red and white fluff of a fox that the alien had found, curled up outside of their home. The fox was now his constant companion and the only thing that didn't make Kian bristle to on sight.

The ebony alien was walking akwardly with his pet by his side, fingers buried in the thick red fur. His feet wouldn't move exactly right - there was a tail coming out of his a**, damnit! He wanted to move quickly, jump through the trees, move with the stealth he once had...

Kian growled softly, shoulders hunching up. The sudden train of thoughts made his muscles tense and since his tail was nearly fully muscle...the toddler fell onto his a**, making a soft 'oompf' when his butt hit the grass.

That's when he saw Autsu. He had wings! Granted, they looked nothing like those he used to have on his wrists and it was small, stupid but...nostalgia. Jii, oblivious, gave a small 'kitsu' noise and bounced about, tail waving.

Okay, mostly steady on his feet. When there weren't giant rocks jumping out of the ground and deliberately attacking him. Between one step and the next, his toes caught, and all that forward inertia had him hitting the ground hard, his wings fluttering useless until the impact.

Well, that had hurt.

Pushing himself up, Autsu grunted at the pain. Soldier didn't cry. Even soldiers in strange bodies on alien planets didn't cry. Except, perhaps, in the dark of night, when Narin's memory grew to close, and no one appeared to remind him that he wasn't, in fact, completely abandoned.

He had something. Even if he wasn't sure he wanted to call it what it was. Enough that he let it happen, and didn't fight too hard, anymore.

On hands and knees now, the dark skinned toddler found himself looking at a being with the same colouring. Of skin at least, if not of hair and wings. Not that the other had wings. More important was the others expression, stance, eyes.

Something... it wouldn't be the first time.

Still, he couldn't be sure yet. Usually the other small ones were only what they seemed.

Kians fingers flexed, feeling the thin membrane between the digits tug as well, limiting his mobility with his hand. He leaned foreward, grabbing at Jii and hauling teh fluffy thing back, eyes on Autsu still. Had Kian still been in his original form, his ears would've been twisted around in wary caution.

So he hissed. There was no other real communication he was good with, just yet. His words came out all choked, new vocal chords resisting his former language. English, he'd learned, came easier and it was becomeing some of a staple since he'd been hearing it continuously.

Despite the hiss, however, Kian wriggled his little bottom over to the other alien and offered his hand, palm up, red tips wriggling. Soliders didn't cry but sometimes they needed help. He knew that much.

Autsu eyed the hand silently, not entirely sure that he wanted to accept, but more sure than ever that this one was different, somehow. Maybe like he was, maybe another way.

But different all the same.

Deciding there was no harm in taking the offered hand, he used it to pull himself to his feet, keeping his wings very still with the full knowledge that he could overbalance himself all over again. Finding his footing, he smiled, a rough expression, out of place on the delicate features of his face.

"'i. 'm 'tsu." He introduced himself, unconcerned about their less than graceful manner of first encounter. Sometimes, you fell down. It was ok, so long as the fight continued, right?

Already, he was restless to be off and moving again, a desire he expressed by shifting his weight from one delicate foot to the other.

Maybe he was like Autsu. It was a different sort of different, it was an odd sort of different, but it was the same. Autsu studying his hand was met with all three of the golden cat-eyes on his alien face.

His muscles tightened and twisted as he helped Autsu stand, expression blank as the other introduced himself. Kian didnt know how to smile, apparently, as the un-hostile expression was the furthest he'd ever gotten from anger, throat clearing with a harsh cough, nails digging into his own palm.

In this new language, The child reminded himself, lips twining themselves into a curious knot. "Tsu." He repeated, voice low for a child, unused to speaking such odd words. What was his name again? Kian patted his own chest. "Key-anne."

Jii trilled as she saw this new person once more, prancing off into the distance. The third eye swiveled to watch his fox and Kian pointed. "Jii. 'Lo." Greeting done, the boys tail swung nervously, almost throwing him off balance once more. "Get?"

The question of activity was met with a litte step towards his fox, two eyes fluttering back to Autsu. GO get the fox? "Get?"

"Key-anne." The winged boy echoed the other's words, mimicing carefully. "Anne."

He wasn't entirely sure of naming conventions yet. It was all so mixed up, and if he understood things correctly there were MANY more castes here than there were at home. And he was of the Au caste. He thought. Maybe. Certainly his 'family' called him 'tsu but intoducted him as Autsu.

He was tired of the game that had got him banished in the first place. If he offended someone by dropping their proper title, they weren't a proper comrade anyway.

He wouldn't live this life like he had the last.

"Get?" He questioned in turn, his gaze moving to the animal creature prancing in the distance. Did this one have a familar as well? And why did he have three eyes?

Why didn't he have three eyes?

Stupid body.

Still, the other had invited him to move. "We get, Anne." And he was running, something like a smile taking over his expression.

"Key-anne," The little alien agreed, lips peeling horizontally into his version of a smile. Kian didn't know what it was to be happy and, at that, he didn't know what it was to smile.

His hand waved slightly in the air, tail twitching and gazing still at Jii. "Get," He agreed once more before moving after the older alien. Kian quite liked this little runner..he was fast - faster then he was! - and had wings!

Oh, the reminesance.

Clawed feet pressed against the ground as he moved after Autsu... Jii saw them coming and gave a fluid trilling squeal, befre prancing further away. She was a silly fox.

Memories. Not of childhood, not mostly. That had been a cold time, but he'd learned strength. And that'd been the point. Hadn't it? And still, weakness had grown somehow. Best not to think of it.

No, he remembered other times. The taste of the sun on his scales, the comforting familiarity of manuver after manuver. Oh, maybe he'd fought it at times, but in the end, he'd understood the need.

And now, as he ran, Anne just a bit behind him, the target ahead, he could almost feel as if was there again.

Almost feel strong again.

"You, Anne!" he called, to get the other boy's attention. "Like that!" He pointed in one direction, indicating the boy should run that way. "Me, like this." Another gesture, trying to indicate the way he'd follow the fox.

"I chase. You catch."

Kians eyes lit up at that, the middle eye even on the other, lips almost curled into his form of a grin. "Trap," Was the childs reply to that. "Am-a-bush." The word was pronounced very carefully, how he once had heard Iamel say it - where WAS Iamel, anyway? He was supposed to be watching him!

His shoulders rolled, lips peeling back enough so one could see teeth. There was no upward motion of his expression, but the little boy was pleased. Without anything further, he started moving in the direction ordered, slowing down gradually so Jii wouldn't hear them.

The poor fox was unaware, flouncing around in a circle merrily.

"Am-a-bush." Autsu echoed, though the word was unfamiliar to him, as was 'trap'. Between his gentle, mournful father and quiet, retiring older brother, he hadn't learned much of the world's military terms. Maybe Anne could teach them, when they'd caught their target.

Switching his focus to the mission at hand, he nodded quickly to the other boy, before setting his attention back on the chase. Unlike Anne, he made a point of being loud about it, making bold movements and waving his arms.

"I get you!" He called after the fox, while carefully adjusting the direction of the chase slightly.

Kian knew those terms only because he had older siblings such as Akilah ("AAAAAH! AMBUSH!") and Iamel ("Ambush the little b*****d!"). Innocence never stood much of a chance when up against many of his siblings and really, Kian didn't mind it.

They were silly creatures and, for one, he was glad he never had to put up with them on a higher level.

Jii squealed when she saw the odd alien running at her, little frame jolting up and away from him, tails flicking. Her direction changed when the other made it so - she wasn't a horribly intelligant creature when she had no clue what was going on - and Kian twisted so he could try and tackle the zurui when she zoomed closer.

The zurui in question almost ran smack into her owner, Kian giving a shrill cry and clutching onto the multicolored furr. "Aiiiiyeeee!"

Target captured! Letting out a crow of triumph, Autsu quickly closed the remaining distance between himself and the other boy. He spared a brief glance at Jii, but his intrest in their prey was already fading. It wasn't running anymore.

"We suseed." He told the other boy with a nod and something like a smile. This one was a good comrade, he could tell. They would fight well together.

The train of thought cut off as he realized how far he'd wandered from his guardians. Glancing nervously over his shoulder, he frowned into the space that now seperated him from the bench where they sat.

Time to go back, then.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 13, 2006 7:15 pm

"Suseed?" Kian frowned a little bit, red-tipped nails buried against his zuruis fur. Then the frown smoothed out, tips twitching once, twice...he was smiling.

Kind of.

"Suseed, Tsu." The alien nodded gravely. His eyes followed the others gaze to the gaurdians, other eye swiveling to where he saw his own 'gaurdian' moving over. Patrick looked rather worried, striding over with quick, strong movements.

"Tick." Kian grunted, tail giving an irritable twitch. Patrick just frowned at him, dipping down to scoop the child up, Jii forgotten on the ground. Ebony hands clutched at Patricks shirt almost possesively, peering back at Autsu. "Tsu. 'T 'Tick."

Patricks eyebrows arched slightly, looking at the little alien NOT in his arms. "Tsu? Hi."

Autsu frowned as Anne was taken away from him, only his anxiety at being so far away from his own guardians keeping him from reacting more strongly than that. This new one may be something of an ally, but his guardians were all he had in this world. If they left him, as he'd been left before...

But no, there they were, just sitting, watching.

"Anne is comrade." He told the other boy, his serious expression out of place on such a young face. "We meet soon."

Only after he was done with that did he give Patrick any attention. "You bring back."

And that was apparently all he had to say. Turning his back on the both of them, he bolted back toward his own guardians, the exhaustion created by all his running starting to hit him, hard.

"Fater? We go home now." He told the man, allowing himself to be pulled up into familiar arms.

((And, Fin, I think.))
