I know that not everyone in the guild is from the U.S. i'm just curious to know which part of the world everyone lives in and how that has infulenced their art. I was born in China, but currently live in the U.S. so I guess I can say that I'm Asian American. I have also lived in Japan before, when i was little. That's where I picked up anime. Also being Chinese, I feel that I should learn "Chinese art". I have been doing Chinese painting on and off for about 3 years now. So what about everyone else?

well i pretty much live in the US and have lived in the US all my life, Georgia to be exact. i dont really know that its influenced my art too terribly much simply because...its hard to find culture here. i almost feel bad saying it, but when i say culture i mean fine arts and opera and symphony and things, not just what people normally do; we've got plenty of weird customs here. most of my art has been influenced by my mom, actually, who was an artist as well.

I live in the netherlands
I'm most influenced by some "local" artist, art that my parents have in their house, as a child you look at them and copy things. and I am a lot influenced by some artist I worked with, Liesbeth Meerding, she makes sculptures and Minne Hoekstra, he's and painter and makes sculptures of used objects. the artist I like are Alphons Marie Mucha, Botero, Herman Brood, karel appel and corneille

@ChemieChan: do the schools make you learn english as a second language, or do you get a choice? i know someone else from sweden and his english is great. if he didn't say he was swedish, i never would have guessed.

I get that alot aswell xd We all learn english at school but I'd say I learned most of my english from TV and movies. Most european countries dub their TV and they're all terrible at english. I had to speak in german when I was in Hungary. I choosed to study german for 4 years.
My spelling and reading english has improved a lot since I joined gaia in 2003, but I'm much better at expressing myslef talking then writing.

I'm in the US and I'm an Asian American. ^_^
I live in Austin, which has a pretty diverse population (in comparison to some places in Texas where my friends live), so I've always been interested in people. They're my favorite subjects to draw, and they've influenced me greatly. biggrin

I'm from the good ole' Southern states in the US. My dad went to Japan for a little while and brought back some souvenirs, including my first intorductions to the anime world: a Sailor Moon hankie that I still treasure and some home-recorded Saturday Morning Cartoons! I still have no clue what show I saw on that thing... xd

I live in north america and I've been drawing anime art for 7 + (I'm not exactly sure how long now) years. I don't like a lot of american style art myself.
