Since this is the first of the "religions" that we're studying in my World Religions class, and since it falls so close to many of the buddhist teachings...
What are your feelings on the Tao?

I really can't say, as I have very limited knowledge. I will say the concept of yin-yang resonates with me, though.

The Tao Te Ching is a nice read, if anything else. Uplifing, honestly. I have some versed from it copied into a notebook that I used to read in high school when I felt depressed. 3nodding

I have a feeling, since no one's really heard of it here, that I'll be posting chapters.

That would be great, thanks.
I think I have to say here that the reason I don't know anything about it is because it's one of the ones that always gets skimmed over in school. I just hadn't gotten around to researching myself yet. sweatdrop

Ever hear people say, "Just roll with it"?
Tao's the "it" in that statement.
Needless to say, that's a very simplified view of the Tao, but I don't want to get into it too much. (Added to that, you really can't get into it too much or you start moving away from it)
If you can, next time you're in a book-store, go ahead and buy a pocket-sized "Tao te Ching".
It's a very short book and a nice read also.

It was written by Lao Tze, who's son (I think, not sure) actually wrote a "sequel" going into more detail and adding to the teachings. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the book or I'd post it. As for excerpts from the "Tao Te Ching" (pronounced Dao De Jing), I've got a copy, and I would be more than willing to either post some excerpts here, or send them to anyone who's interested.

I'm not exactly sure how'd we go about that... I have a feeling it'd be copyright infringment if we just posted the translation.
I think if we give credit where credit is due, however, it maybe safe.

I think if we give credit where credit is due, however, it maybe safe. I'm in agreement with you there, and in some ways not. It seems like the Tao Te Ching is old enough that it sort of precedes copyrights and modern restrictions, but then again it undoubtedly took years for the "author" to translate the text, and therefore more than deserves credit for their labor.

I've only read "The Tao of Pooh" which uses a dialogue between Winnie the Pooh and the writer to convay the ideas of Tao. While it was incredibly adorable, it's been a while since I read it and the only thing I remember is something about an uncarved block. sweatdrop

Sorry for the lack of info. Taoism is actually very intellectual and sophisticated, it just doesn't appear so on the surface. Also Zen (Ch'an in Chinese) is one sect you might want to look into if you feel a close connection with both Buddhism and Taoism, since its a blending of the two Philosophical systems. Me, I'm more attracted to Tibetan Vajrayana, primarily because of my attraction to Hindu Metaphysical Yoga (This is just my opinion, but it seems almost like Vajrayana is the Buddhist version of Yoga).

If you want to get back into Taoism, I'd really recommend that you head off to a bookstore and pick up a copy of the actual text (translated, of course wink xd )

I guess what I was trying to show how much I really don't know, because, yes, the Tao of Pooh is not the greatest reference... but it's a pretty good start. As for reading the text, I'll add it to my list. I still have to read the Bible, Qu'ran, and Torah first... xd
