It seems it is time to restart this thread. 3nodding
I hope this can be a place where we can all come to talk about issues related to the unique aspects of military life and to seek advice from others who may have the experience we lack. It is also nice to know that you are not the only military person in here: we're all here for you!
I hope others will feel free to come in here and ask questions as well if there is a specific query they have about military living. ^___^ Just be prepared to hear as many different answers as there are people in the thread, because like anything else in life, we all experience it differently!
This is not a thread to express negative opinions about the US's current military situation or government: there are plenty of threads in the discussion forums for that sort of topic. Here it will be seen as insulting, so please find another venue to express those opinions in. You can have whatever opinions you want: just make sure you express them in appropriate places.
redface Sorry this first post is a little akward, I wasn't sure how to say everything.

Yay Manda, great job, I was really missing this thread.
Onto military stuff, if ya'll don't mind. Tommy and I really talked about his deployment, good, bad, and ugly. It helped some, but when I think about it, I still get a bunch more questions because I overthink a simple thing and worry about it.
Like, I want to go back home for Christmas for like a month. I'd be driving with Logan and the dog. I wonder if hotels take dogs, how I would work out paying bills, some I can only ge tin the mail and pay that way. *sigh* I shouldn't really think about that yet, I should think about his deployment.

You'll do fine. You're stronger than you think you are.

We had to deal with the same issues when we went home on block leave in terms of bills. For the ones you can only mail, do you think you could try to pay them ahead of time if they are ones you already know the amounts for like cable or internet? So the month before you leave, budget to pay double the amount and then you'll be ahead??
Then you can pay the other ones on-line like you usually do.
It's good you thought of this now: it didn't even occur to Chris and I until we were a couple days from leaving and things didn't work out the greatest. sweatdrop
There are hotels that take pets and I'll try to find the link to a website that lists them for you. I think you need to prove he's up to date with vaccines and stuff and there's an additional fee of like $25, but it's well worth it to keep an eye on him and get a good night's sleep while traveling.

Well, I was trying to talk with him what I want to do with the extra money. I want to save some money for him to spend when he gets back, but he was talking about getting another car?! I told him we don't need to count the chickens before they hatch. I want to see what we're going to get and work it from there. I just desperately want credit debt paid off and some rainy day money. And we've had a lot of rainy days sweatdrop
I know a lot of people could drive the 14-16 hour trip I'd be driving straight through, but I thought about poor Logan being in the back seat with no one to look at or me to help him out and I don't think I could handle it to be honest.
Like I said, I have a bad habit about overthinking things. We were joking because he's been called like practically everyday for stupid crap. They seem to forget he's had surgery a LOT. So, I was joking that they were going to call him and ask if he knew where Bin Laden was while they were at it. Heh, I was just getting annoyed with it all. They would get all the info they need if they just read the paperwork!!

Soldiers don't do that. Okay, some of them do, but not all of them have the sense to do that sort of thing.

My mom's older brother, when she was 11, went to the Vietnam War. He died in 1975, my mom was very close to him. I think he had gotten shot or was ill. His name was James, but I don't know much about him though.
Do the military ranks get anyone else confused? they get me plenty confused!

The fact my parents were in the army helps a lot.

I do okay with the army and marine ranks. The AF ones, I can guess the rank number but I have a hard time with remembering.
As for navy, clueless!

GrimRules the enlisted rank structure: Sergeant First Class First Sergeant/MAster Sergeant Actually a SFC, MSGT and FSGT are one in the same. Most times. They're E-7 or E-8except a FSGT has a diamond in the middle of his rank. At least that's what I learned in Basic and AIT. While in Germany, our Top was an E-7, so it's subjective to say the least. But when did anything in the Army make sense? Anyway, I'm glad to see there's a new thread here. I'm probably going to be missing for a couple of days. Izzy and I are working on certain aspects of our relationship, and most of it involves me cutting back on my compy time. I realized I've been neglecting him for the compy, and he's been neglecting me for gaming. I'll probably be in and out, posting little tidbits here and LJing, but I can't be certain. Anyway, I've rambled and probably need sleep. Till next. A good link for rank structures is here - http://www.defenselink.mil/specials/insignias/Hope it helps!
