It's crap, had it for about a week, and then whenever I hooked it up it had a ring of red, what a piece of crap it was.

A good friend of mine has the 360 base stand. The one that can hold two games and a memory card. It has fans at the bottom and connects to the end of the 360. That worked wonders for his console. It significantly reduced the amount of heat produced by the console.

A friend of mine got it even after hearing that is was a really loud device, the fan that is.
He plugged it in and we turned off every source of noise imaginable. Except for a very quite wirring during power up, much quiter than the 360 itself, it was silent.
And we played Halo 2 for 8 hours straight after that. At the end of which we felt his console and wondered if we had actually been using it all that time. It was about as warm as if you held your hand on it for five minutes.

rekkomaster25, get my image out of your signature. It's not yours, it's mine, made on my computer by me, and you didn't ask.
As for the fan: update:
I've got the fan myself now. Upon start up of my 360 it is rather loud. About 3 360s' worth of startup noise, perhaps. but once running it's about the same as the system itself. Which isn't really much of a difference to normal sound.
I played Call of Duty 2 and Oblivion for a day and a half straight. (Yes, I do not sleep and play games that long. Don't tell me to get a life, lol) After that long of straight play time I felt my 360 and it was about as warm 5 minutes after startup pre-fan. (IE: Without the fan, after 5 minutes. With the fan, it was still that cool after a day and a half.)

I really don't see the need of these third-party fans. THey just make it really loud and don't do much use at all. It's just companies capitalizing on the overheating scare.
Save some money and don't bother. You don't need it. I don't have one and my Xbox 360 works perfectly and has had no problems whatsoever.

ECUnlimited I really don't see the need of these third-party fans. THey just make it really loud and don't do much use at all. It's just companies capitalizing on the overheating scare. Save some money and don't bother. You don't need it. I don't have one and my Xbox 360 works perfectly and has had no problems whatsoever. How long do you play it in one go? 3 hours? 10 hours? 24 hours? 32 hours? Anymore than 3 hours and this fan will be good for you.
Every time your 360 gets real hot the hardware inside is under alot of strain. Heat causes electronics to deteriorate. Why do you think the manuals for all things electronic always say "don't store in direct sunlight or near a source of heat"?
So, even if your system never over heats, it will increase the life span of it dramatically by keeping it cooler.
Besides, I've noticed that while my system never crashes or freezes, the longer I play it the longer it takes for things to load, a few missing frames here and there, etc. Basically stuff that isn't really that much of a problem, but is still annoying. After a good 15 hours of playing is begins that type of stuff, you know? If you don't play that much *shrugs* the fan is still good for the following reason:
$20.00 for a fan that will increase the life of your $300+ machine by years is worth it.
