Ok, I'm sure that by now you've all heard of that hateful thing called...HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. It is a lame-as-ever Disney Channel movie that isn't very well based on high school (all pretty people in pretty clothes. There are no Asians, Indians, Jews, or exchangge students of anykind at this school. Only one Mexican girl who is ubergenius and falls in love with Mr. Perfect WASP Basketball Boy. You get the idea.) and has absolutely NOTHING to do with musicals. All the songs are pure bubble-gum cotton-candy pop that is totally computerized and terrible. It is an abomination to musical theater. The really terrible thing, though, is how popular it's become. It was #2 on the charts last week, half of everyone at my school is singing along with it constantly, including one of my best friends who loves musicals as much as I do, and it's made Disney a load of cash. It is literally taking over.
Discuss how terrible the above abomination is.

Okay, yeah. I love High School Musical. So yeah... to each his own.
It's a movie directed towards teens and younger, what do you expect? Dark meaning full musicals?
And truthfully, MY high school musicals were actually alot like like. We had the divas and the cheesy song and dance numbers.
Compaired to OTHER Disney made for TV movies, High School Musical is one of the best ones they have ever done.

I think it is an acceptable movie but it is not like life as I have seen it at all. I mean, who could stand that teacher? And what director would trust people she hates with making the sets for a show? nevermind that, the thing that sickens me it that there is a stage version of it that you can get the script for so your school can perform it. ew.

I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. I agree it was a very good TV movie and it great for the kids that Disney is aimed at. But there were some songs I really liked. I did kinda get bothered that the voices were so digitally altered but all the music kids listen to is like that it seems.
I thouught it was worth seeing, being a musical nut.

Like most, I feel it was decent for what it was, but not anything worthy of the effort of detesting (if ya know what I mean). I only watched it because Peter Filichia made some comments on it. As for the original poster's comments on the lack of diversity in the cast, I will just say this: I have never in my life been able to tell if someone is Jewish just by looking at them, and sometimes not even by name. Why I feel that's relevant, I'm not entirely sure, but there it is.

I didnt like it. To me it's not High School and it's not a musical. I agree with the original post. It's just a bunch of tweeny pop videos strung together with a crummy storyline.

I didn't mind it. I thought it was a nice attempt. (:
You also can't say that it sucks simply because it's several songs thrown together with a mediocre plot. Grease is the exact same way. If you didn't have the songs, Grease would be very boring and cliche. ^^

It's better than a lot of Disney TV movies, but that's not saying a lot : P
I might have liked the movie better if they hadn't dared to call it a musical
And the "theater people" had the worst voices in the whole thing
I think they shoudl go see a real musical before trying to make one

Lol. We had three people that could sing and everyone else was tone deaf, but they all think they are amazing, so they audition anyway, and they end up in the show cus my high school had a "turn no one away" policy.
