Ouranos' tail wagged in a jovial manner, shaking beads of water down from the foliage around them, as the little one challenged him. "Don't worry" he told the young male who seemed like he might be a threat to Ouranos' ankles "I don't intend to harm either of you.." he paused, wondering how he might broach the subject of their situation.
He didn't want to seem threatening and so slipped down onto his belly, lying out on the muddy ground. The stuff squished against him horribly but he didn't want to seem threatening to the two cubs. Are you alone? he was about to ask, looking from one white pup the the other. He was concerned, as he peered closer at them, at their thinness and general ragged appearance.
He changed his question to "how long have you been alone?"

As Gavan stepped forward to challenge the big male, Persephone gave a start. He mustn't! The giant wolf could just step on him if he wanted to. Scarlet eyes wide with worry for her brother foremost and then herself, her mind was at a loss for what to do.
Then, the pale wolf wagged his tail. Somewhat unsure, Perse stared at him for a few moments. Maybe he hadn't come to eat them afterall. She wasn't ready to trust him though, so she didn't move any closer to the adult. Then, he sat down in the mud. It didn't look very nice.
As he asked the question, Persephone glanced at Gavan for a moment, before looking back at Ouranos again.
After a pause she answered him, a tinge of hesitance in her voice. "Uhm.. I'm not sure.. a while."

They had confirmed his suspicions, then, they had been abandoned, though he wasn't entirely sure what a 'box' was. Ouranos pondered for a minute on the young males question. Why did he want to know, why was he, in fact, bothering with this pair of pups who were so obviously weak.
In fact, he told himself, the question isn't 'why do you want to know' at all, Oura you idiot... it's 'what are you going to do about it?'
After a moments thought, sitting in the damp rain, slightly hungry, he called to Zagreus quietly, mindful of the fact they were still on the borderline between packs and the free territories. Hoping his dark-furred companion would hear his soft, rumbling call he turned back towards the pups. His mind was half made up.
"Food, warmth, shelter... you want that, surely?" he asked simply.

Zagreus had been following the scent of a rabbit a short way away. Unfortunately, he suspected that the rabbit had gone to ground and would be unreachable for now, especially as the drizzle of rain was obliterating what little trail there had been. Quartering back over the ground, he paused as he heard his name being called in a low voice.
Recognising the voice as Ouranos', he abandoned his search and turned to pad back towards the other wolf. The fawn male's voice had not been urgent or strained, so he didn't think that there was any danger. But it would be best to go and see what his friend wanted.
Emerging from a nearby thicket, Zagreus did not spot the tiny cubs at first, them being hidden by Ouranos' body. The first thought that crossed his mind was, 'Why is he lying in the mud?' Then he spotted movement from at least one tiny white body on the other side. A pup.
Pausing, he wondered for a moment. Then he spoke questioningly.
"...Ouranos?"
Seeing that Gavan had relaxed a little relieved a little more of Persephone's tension. That, and the fact that the big wolf didn't seem to have any ill intentions towards them - indeed, he seemed to be friendly, even.
As Gavan asked why Ouranos wanted to know, she glanced at him for a moment, before looking back to the large adult. The adult didn't answer for a few moments, and then he called a word that she didn't recognise. It sounded like a name.
When Ouranos directed another question towards them, she nodded after a moment. She was cold, she was wet and she was hungry. Food and shelter sounded very good indeed.
Then, she heard another noise over the patter of the rain. She couldn't see past Ouranos, but there sounded like there was another wolf there. Having been somewhat reassured by the pale adult's manner, she wasn't so worried and nervous now. However, she still hoped that he was nice too.

Oura was wet, a little amused but mostly underwhelmed with the little male pups behavior. As the pup readied his attack, Oura got to his feet, towering over the little white pup. "He's a friend, pup, he won't hurt you now calm down.. acting like you are you could end up getting yourself and your sister into trouble..."
He turned to face Zagreus "alone, abandoned..." he explained, hoping Zagreus would understand. They had been around each other long enough that the other wolf probably would understand his motivation. His tone of voice clearly indicated 'can we keep them?'.
Turning back to the pup, he batted him lightly with a paw. "What are your names?"

"Gavan.. I think it's ok. They won't hurt us." Persephone took a few steps forward to her brother's side, nudging him gently in the side. Her brother was brave and fierce, but the first big wolf would have had no problems if he had wanted to fight them by himself.
Turning to stare through crimson eyes at first Ouranos and then Zagreus, she spoke up again.
"I'm Persephone."
Zagreus remained silent for a moment, taking in the scene in front of him. Now, this was something that he hadn't expected to see. He seemed to be thinking to himself, as if he was weighing both sides of a decision. Eventually, his expression became more decisive.
"...There's still meat left over from the kill by the overhang. I'm sure there's enough for two more little mouths."
He glanced at Ouranos, a faint twinkle in his golden eyes. Having seen his companion with pups before, he was sure that he'd be willing to look after them.

"I'm Ouranos" he answered and then nodded to the dark wolf behind him "he's Zagreus and yes food. We have plenty to share if you'd like to come with us.."
He looked between them both, the little runts would take an age to walk back to the clearing they were currently staying in. His tongue lolled out of his head as he began to think.
"We'd have to carry you both." he stated, hoping the fiesty male wouldn't object. He liked pups but knew sometimes theyobjected to being treated like they were young or unable to do something. "It might be fun?" he ventured, half grinning. His tail wagged as he spoke to Zag "It'd be fun, wouldn't it Zag?"
He hadn't thought for a moment that Calliope might object, why would she afterall? All the female wolves he had known would melt at the sight of pups.

Zagreus looked amused as Ouranos wagged his tail at him. "Sure. It'll be nice to get out of the rain too." The dark wolf stepped up beside Ouranos and then to Persephone, ducking his head.
"I'm not going to hurt you - I'm just going to pick you up. Ok?" When the pup did not object after a moment, he leaned down and grasped her gently by the scuff of the neck. She was small and light for a pup. They both seemed to be. Their eyes were unusual too, being blood-red.
Persephone didn't object to being lifted. If the big wolves had wanted to hurt them, surely they'd have done it by now. It wouldn't be so bad being carried. They had stumbled onwards for a while through the driving rain, and it had been tiring. If she had been more refreshed, then she might have objected more. But it didn't hurt when the dark wolf lifted her, and she was reasonably happy to consent.

Wagging has large, if sodden, tail, Ouranos reached forward and picked up the small pup gently, careful not to n** his scruff as he lifted him into the air. He looked towards Zag and nodded very slightly so as not to jiggle the pup.
He was glad the pup had not objected... it should only take them an hour or so to get back to the clearing if they set a decent pace. Ouranos' green eyes searched through the bracken and his nose took in the scents which were avaliable in the sodden air. Noone seemed to be around... they shouldn't have to creep but he'd leave it to Zagreus to decide - the older male was a better tracker than he and had keener senses.

Zagreus glanced at Ouranos to check that he was ready before turning his gaze to the immediate area. He had picked up no scent of any other unfamiliar wolves before, and while he was unable to check again properly now, from what he could tell, the surroundings were still safe.
The safest way would probably be to return by the way they came, rather than go by an unfamiliar route and possible stumble across unwanted attention. Making his mind up, the dark wolf began to make his way back, trying his best not to jolt the pup he held.
The rain continued to wash over the land as they made their way back. Fortunately, no other wolves had crossed the path by which they had came, so there were no unwanted encounters.
After an hour or so, he recognised that they were close to the clearing in the forest. He wondered briefly if Calliope was nearby. In any case, the remains of the deer that they'd brought down recently should still be there.
