Has anyone else read this book? It's one of meh personal favorites. If so...were you disappointed with the ending? Or did you like it?

If you haven't read it....here's a summary!

Winston Smith is a low-ranking member of the ruling Party in London, in the nation of Oceania. Everywhere Winston goes, even his own home, the Party watches him through telescreens; everywhere he looks he sees the face of the Party's seemingly omniscient leader, a figure known only as Big Brother. The Party controls everything in Oceania, even the people's history and language. Currently, the Party is forcing the implementation of an invented language called Newspeak, which attempts to prevent political rebellion by eliminating all words related to it. Even thinking rebellious thoughts is illegal. Such thoughtcrime is, in fact, the worst of all crimes.

That's the beginning of a synopisi brought to you by Sparks Notes! ^^

1984, I've heard SO much about this from a friend. So I bought it a while back, but haven't gotten to the point of actually reading it from cover to cover, sorry. I've been skimming through a lot, planning to read it... but never actually.. taking action.. I should get started on that soon. xd

I think I might pick that up sometime, I'm waiting to see if I'll be reading it for English next year.

I really need to actually read 1984. I've had it for a few months. I got it in a special hardcover edition with 1984 and Animal Farm (which I finished).

So it's basically in my list of other books to read such as: Art or war, Beyond good and evil, The Republic, and Thus spoke Zarathustra. (anyone notice a pattern?)

Well I've got it, and I'm reading it. It's alright. I've come accross other books that are similar to this, except there wasn't any sex. I'm at II, v right now. So maybe it'll get better.

I finished it a while ago...like a month and some ago. I was disapointed with the ending.

And I feel sorry for the poor starved rats.

It was an alright book but when the guy was just reading the book it was borinf. Yes I know how vague that sounds, can't remember any names right now.

Ahh, I think my friend has (had?) to read that for Language Arts. I don't think she likes it--I believe she said it was because it was sad and all that. ... Though I can't recall if it's the same book. sweatdrop

Now that it's been about a year later I like it better. Still it's very pessimistic.
