I just want to thank the moderators of Gaia Online for their willingness to and effectiveness in abusing the rights and priviledges of long-standing, paying members of this service.

I think it's amazing that you are so quick to act, and so tenacious in your responsibilities to your own trigger fingers. Whether it be in order to move posts, delete threads, ban accounts, or remove signatures, I have been continually inspired by your unwillingness to treat the users of this service as customers, deserving of respect and attention. Rather, your Machiavellian efforts truly provide a great example to the future managers and human resource directors of the world: we who will also be endowed with power that, thanks to your exemplary efforts, will allow us to abuse and condescend those lucky enough to be placed under our command.

So, once again, I thank you. Please, continue the work that you are doing. Perhaps, if you continue to disregard your users as you have been, you will one day inspire me to leave this site altogether. That will be a great day for us all.

You are appreciated! xd

If I get my signature back, this will be it. I would recommend I not have those priviledges returned to me. They will be used to express my disgust.

neutral Last I seem to recall was that I had told you your sig was too big the first time when I was at your house in New Orleans; and I had told you there I'd remove it if you didn't fix it.

Now, two weeks later it's over the limits a second time. You dug yourself into this mess, not me.

The image at the time was off by 25 pixels. Twenty-five. Still, I made it smaller, as per your request.

This time, the image was 500x500. I know because I used Noraboo's signature as a size template. This time only the file size was larger. You did not warn me. You said nothing. You simply acted, which is against the Gaia TOS.

See the image above for a copy of the Rules and Guidelines. It is clearly stated that the moderator must first notify the person and ask them to decrease the size of the signature.

So, please. Keep it up. I look forward to the fury that will finally cause me to leave Gaia for good.

Actually, we have the option of disabeling then PMing or PMing then disabeling. *shrugs* But I am not going to argue with you about it.

I'm also enjoying the fact that I've changed my signature to a smaller sized—that is, I've complied with moderator request—and still my signature priviledges, which were so casually removed, have not been returned.

I wonder why that is. Are the moderators of Gaia authorized to censor their users now? I haven't seen that change to the TOS yet.

I'm sorry, maybe I'm not reading it right:

Ability to post signatures may be removed if you do not comply with a moderator's request to follow this standard.

So, it is possible that one's signature will be shut down if and only if one fails to comply. The fact remains, Ms. Koko, that I didn't have the chance to comply. I wasn't given the opportunity.

And you know me well enough to know that I would have complied immediately.

Did you tell someone? Because otherwise no one would know that it was changed, moderators are not psychic unlike what some people seem to enjoy thinking. We also don't sit at a user's profile refreshing the page constantly to see if their sigs have been fix.

So, I suppose the answer is yes.

Yes, I'm well aware of the mod-martyr complex that seems to pervade. I'd apologize, if it weren't for the abuses I've seen in the past and now have personally experienced.

I'll await your correction of this issue, seeing as how I am no longer breaking any TOS regulations.

465x180 pixels and a size of no larger than 40 kilobytes. I hope this is an adequate signature. I don't like it as much as my last (which cost me 30,000 gold), but it should do until I get a new one.

You've had is back since you said you changed it. =\

Really, I shouldn't have to tell you more then once to keep your sig within the limits. But whatever, you don't care right? As long as you have your way.

JoVo...

The clause in the rules refers to permanent removal of signatures.

We regularly temporarily remove sigs and then PM the user in question. This way if they are not available, the overly large or possibly offending sig is not still up on the forums. Then users fix the sig, reply to an available mod, and the sig is restored. Simple as that.

Why you feel the need to throw a fit and take something that happens regularly without incident to dozens of users a day, all of whom simply fix their sigs and have them neatly restored, is beyond me. You haven't bloody experienced an abuse. You broke a rule and were asked to fix it. Oh the horor!

That you were already once asked to reduce your signature size is actually enough reason for you to have your sig removed. You should be thankful you were given another chance, not bitching because it was removed for the period of time between you being notified and you notifying a mod to have it restored.

Really, I'm completely baffled. You're taking it out on a friend as well, who you should know wouldn't go out of their way to screw you over. neutral

But you didn't tell me. That's the point. I had my signature within the size limits. I wasn't even aware there were file size limits. It's counterintuitive because the image is hosted on my website.

This isn't about getting my way. If you'll notice I complied with the rules. This is about not being told. This is about the lack of mod intercommunication with users. This is about the mod-clique and their mod-martyr complex that causes you to act without thinking about the users that you are supposed to be here to help.

You are not Gestapo. You are moderators. You are here to ensure the continued, uninterrupted, proper use of this website. As such, you occasionally have to tell people to stop doing what they are doing. The trick is to respect your users and to trust that they will actually do what you tell them to do.

I support moderators, but I'm sick of the act-first-talk-later mentality mods have tend to espouse.

JoVo, you WERE told. It's not like one day it just went away and you never found out what happened to it. It was removed for being in violation of the rules, you were informed, and given a chance to fix it. A _second_ chance, after having broken the rule once before, meaning that clearly you'd know about the rules.

The image size limit is NOT for you, it's for other users. People on dialup who can't load a big image. It doesn't matter who is hosting it, what matters is who is going to be looking at it. So it's not counterintuitive at all, if you think about it.
