I think at Talladega or Daytona, when Rusty went spinning in the air a few times, his car just tearing up
Actually that happened in 1993 and he flipped at both the Daytona 500 and the spring Talladega race. Two restrictor plate races in a row he flipped.
Talk about no luck.
The worst crashes I've seen?
Visually, the worst has to be Geoffrey Bodine in the Inaugural Daytona truck race. When I first saw him crash like that, I gave him no chance in hell of living.
Another wreck just about as bad was in the 1993 Fall Talladega race. Jimmy Horton started flipping and actually flipped over the wall and out of the track. Looking at the wreckage, it's hard to believe that he survived, let alone even walked away... Ironically Stanley Smith with only relatively minor damage to his car was rushed to the hospital in critical condition from his head snapping around.
Rusty at Talladega was bad.
Mike Harmon in practice at 2002 at Bristol actually hit the wall and caused the unsecured gate wall to be pushed back, and he ran into the abutement, causing his car to split in half. Johnny Sauter actually hit Harmon, who was totally exposed to the outside, about a foot behind the seat. How Harmon walked away, I'll never know. He should be dead. Seriously. DEAD.
Mikey had a similar crash. There's a lot of crashes I could talk about.
