I've been thinking.... why does it seem that Gaara automatically earns the title of Kazekage? Don't misunderstand me though - Gaara is my all time favorite character in the series. But what about Kankuro? doesn't he have just as much right to become Kazekage as Gaara? (even though Gaara looks crazy hot in the Kazekage outfit) I know if i were Kankuro though, I wouldn't be stupid enough to fight Gaara for the position - oh no i'd back off and give it to him. But doesn't it seem that Kankuro might even...do a better job? (and not just because he looks exactly like his father) It never struck me that Gaara, even if he did become Kazekage, would take the time to worry about the Sand Village. I mean....he doesn't even care about the lives of the people living in it, right? Kankuro was the first son after all. It would be interesting to see who would do a better job... but i suppose Kishimoto Masashi just wanted to extend Gaara's story, because he is more of a main character than Kankuro...

i dont remember ever seeing the Kazekages face so how does Kankuro look more like him
Gaara does care about the village or he wouldnt have used all his sand to protect the village in his fight against Deidara

trust me, there are pictures of the Kazekage without the mask and hat and everything...
Gaara does what eek wow, i never thought i'd hear him doing somethign like that

forgive me, i haven't gotten very far in the anime, so i had no idea he did that....

Maybe it was already decided a long time ago? What if the title always goes to the youngest? I don't know...

Its not revealed in teh Anime yet. He first appears as Kazekage in the Naruto Returns Manga and gets promoted to the Kazekage rank after he fought Naruto. He said Naruto changed him and made him want to care for others. He became Kazekage and atcually wanted to protect the villagerscuase of spoiler 3nodding

MB's got a point; he forced me to read ahead in the manga too and I witnessed it >___>;;
I think it may be because Gaara's a bajillion times stronger than Kankuro (no offense, I love that guy XD).
I know that means he's got just as much power to destroy the village than to watch over it, but still. Lots can be said against this, but it's just an opinion~

Since the tanuki lives inside of Gaara, he deserves to be Kazekage.

Mezumi Azuma uh whats with the markings on his face and will he ever take his hood off? 1)The marking on his face is Kabuki paint Kabuki=Japanese plays. usually the actors wear that stuff on thier face 2)He takes it off ALOT in the Naruto Returns manga ninja I didnt know who he was at first...

Huh, you guys.... WHAT ABOUT TAMARI!!!
I mean wouldnt she be a kickass KazeKagess. I mean really... She could even probally beat Garaa. Isnt this Naruto Girl Fanclub!? I mean people come on you know it would be kickass... razz First tusnade... next Temari, and soon enough girls would take over the narutoverse....

ya know ^ has a very good point...except I don't think she has the sort of pwoer to take it from gaara and besides I don't think she could stand being cooped up in an office assigning all the other people to missions she's kinda like the wind in that she likes to be free mrgreen
