A Grammer/Spelling Lesson from: [Hannah Here are a few very simple little rules to follow, when trying not to sound like a Newb. [or a blathering idiot]You're TRYING to express:THEY ARE This is done very easily. You take out the space, and replace the "A" with an apostrophe ('). It's pretty much THE rule for combining words to replace the first vowel from the second word with a magical little apostrophe. Result: They're BELONGING TO THEMA little more difficult, because there's no real pattern to follow. It's best to memorize this one. Result: Their IS NOTRemove the space between the two words. Then, replace the first vowel from the second word with and apostrophe. See the encredibly sensual THEY ARE for more info. Result: Isn't IT ISRemove the space between the two words, then replace the first vowel with an apostrophe. See the encredibly sensual THEY ARE for more info. Result: It's BELONGING TO ITThe apostrophe is used, first and foremost, for contraction, not to indicate possession! MEMORIZE THIS PHRASE...NOW! Result: Its YOU ARETake away the space, replace the first vowel in the second word with an apostrophe. See the encredibly sensual THEY ARE for more info. Result: You're BELONGING TO YOUSimilar to THEIR, you may just want to memorize this. Do it. DO IT NOW! Result: Your A LOTThis is emphasized because it is what drives me to suicide when done improperly. There is a space between the two words. A space. A big, honking space thet you will use and respect, god-damn you.

PaperCut's Guide to the Fundamental Rule of Role-Playing in General Welcome to Hell, maggo- er, welcome to my guide, fellow Gaians. The purpose of this guide is to give everyone, primarily the newbies (hence the name, Newbie Bar), an easy-to-understand walkthrough to role-playing. RPing can be a really fun thing, and at first it can be slightly difficult to understand, but I'm here to change that.
I'll start it off like this really easy statement that might make the rest of this guide completely obsolete.
You and your character / avatar are different people.
If this wasn't enough to teach you, then I'm afraid I must devle even farther into my brain's spare resources.
You know that avatar that appears next to your posts? Yeah, that is your character. As the RPer, you are the person who controls that person. That avatar isn't you, it's your character... think of it like a story, except you're only writing the parts for your character. Everyone you are RPing with make one huge story.
That's not you in the story. That's your avatar, you're character. You are, in fact, behind the computer pulling the strings. Alright?
Perhaps I'll add to this guide sometime... probably not. Whether or not, I hope you took the time to read this little, ultimately significant guide.
Testimonialsone-winged_demon ooh. yes now i get it. whoa you actually know how to break things down to were i understand them Yay! I did something correctly! ^^ Okay, when I titled the section 'testimonials', do you think I was too decietful when adding the plural? xD
Like I said, this is only the most basic of the basic rules. There are a lot more things that are involved with role-playing, such as grammar [see Hannah's post below / above ] and some more advanced techniques. This is only a message to inform you the rule between you and your RP character.

Hints from Gnomey:
Force RP Most people seem to do this and it's just making me want to shout out loud.. For an example: "Bob walks to Pete, picks him up and throws him at the wall." Stop doing this! It goes "Bob walks to Pete and attempts to hit into his face with his fist."
Ultimate speed and reflex Another thing that just makes me mad. Don't do this either! Example: "Bob takes out his crossbow and shoots an arrow at Pete." "Pete catches the arrow from air and breaks it in half with a grin on his face." This is IMPOSSIBLE for any being. Bob might miss depending on his skill and Pete's dodging speed but there is NO WAY Pete would be able to catch the arrow!

A Tip for Newbies About Getting Attention! Alright all you newbs who walk into places and get ignored immeadiately, here's a tip inspired by Setho. When you walk in and don't konw what to do, don't b***h about getting ignored if no one replies to you in less than a minute. Wait a little bit, say you're a newb, and someone like myself will give you a welcome. If we do, then just start a conversation with us. If no one will give you an introduction when you announce your newbie-ness, then just jump into a conversation. Trust me, this works 3nodding
Why You're Not Getting Attention More than likely, when you're getting ignored, you're either being an a*****e, thinking you're a god of fighting automatically, or just plain being annoying. Also, talking like this "h3y 3v3ry1! 1 m 4 n00b n4d 1 m t3h r0xx0rz kthnx!" won't help you get any attention either. stare

Character Development 101 I would say the G.N.B is the best place to develop your character. because you have new people come im the bar and make fast friends. It is a place where you can be someone else.

Being Literate. Please try to type literately. We don't like seeing things like "hay pplz wut^" Sentences like that, or typing in "Newbish" Such as "|_ 337" things like that just make you look like a retard. Try to type to the best of your abilities. As long as you type correctly, and be polite, people will talk to you more. It also helps if you don't do this "hi every1!!1!" That gets very annoying too.
So all in all, type nicely and be friendly, but have a good time while doing so! domokun
P.S. I'm the grammar Nazi.

Reguarding Isaacs Advice
In addition to waiting a bit for a reply, you should try to pick up a conversation with someone. Get someone's attention and strike up a conversation. This is probably the best way to do so. At least from what I have seen in my many months of being a part of the Gaian Newbie Bar and my random hops about other threads.

Here's something I just remembered doing once, resulting in a yelling at from Rabid whee
Spamming Alright, I have to put with this a LOT. Spamming is the posting of useless and unecessary information, such as song lyrics, guitar and bass tabs ( sweatdrop ), and a post that makes no sense just to fill space, such as typing "moneymoneymoneymoneymoney" fifty times. This not only is annoying, but can get you booted out of the bar, so please stop doing this.
Solution Just don't do it. If you ABSOLUTELY need to spam, please take it to the Chatterbox forums. I find so many threads in WTG that say things like "wuts ur fave color? mines bleu!" This is a topic that belongs elsewhere and not in WTG.

When RPing, and both you and your enemy are fighting, for the love of God at least let him hit you I don't say this meaning, let him hit you everytime, at least let it be like a fight you would see in the real world, I have never seen a real person able to dodge every single attack. Thankyou for listening.

Character backround: the story of my life
when creating your characters backround always remeber to be different. it always seems that everyone wants to be a demon, fox, cat, angel, or god of some sort. stray from the norm. keep your self as unique as possiple. this will help in creating a style of fighter or person you wish to portray better and be more appealing. and remeber most of all, if you wish to become a fighter dont say you are the greatest warrior, wizard, or whatever you are, because then you will just be boasting to much and everyone would think you god mode, which is bad. also when people ask about your past, dont tell them you dont know it, or it is mysterious or unknown. this signifies that you are just to damn lazy to think of one. remember gaia is and role play place. have fun and be creative.

Keep fights fair and fun. RP fights are not to settle arguments that you are having with another user. They are for fun. I recall an IC fight I had with a good friend of mine, and our charachters ended up breaking each others' bones, scalding with hot water. All in all it was alot of fun (no space there on purpose! haha!) and it was one of my best rp moments.
