Ok, well last night at work, I was talking with a co-worker and she asked about the church (she had heard me talking to another co-worker about it). I asked her what she wanted to know about, to know what her questions were. Well, turns out, she knows nothing about it. I had no clue where to start. I invited her to the dance this week but I don't know what to start teaching her. I want her to understand it well but I'm really no good at this. I've never had someone not know anything about us and I don't know what to explain first. Help please!

Well, I haven't really had the experience to start from stratch on answering questions about the church. Personally, I would just start inviting her to youth activities and then eventually onto church meetings.
You could try lookig at the Preach My Gospel book to find a good place to start. I'm sure that would be very useful.

well, if she comes from a christian based type background, start with the similarities. don't scare her away with the differences. teach her the basics about Christ and salvation and Heavenly Father and how we are all His children. gently introduce all four scripture books to her at the same time, to make them equal in her eyes. quote from all of them too. teach her the very BASICS about our pre-mortal life. teach her about Joseph Smith. Tell her things that will assure her that he really was a true prophet, not a hoax. Some of the things i find helpful are: didn't have much schooling, not known to be extremely bright of genius in any area, too young to have invented the BoM, he translated in too fast to have made it up- no matter how smart he may have been. Tell hr about the first time Heavenly Father appeared to him in the sacred grove, too.
that should be plenty to start with. 3nodding

The Articles of Faith might be a good place to start, that's why Joseph Smith wrote them.

I just got a letter from paladin in which he talked about what they have to memorize. That is a lot of what they talk about. I'll try and form a plan around that and take it easy. Thanks

I'd start with Christ, and how he loves us all, then the Plan of Salvation, then, if she wants, have her talk to the missionaries, of course, you should be at, at least, the first discussion.

Help please! start from the beginning....the restoration. i've always found thats the best place to start. the restoration is also the first discussion(i've used many many times) and it is always a good first for people who dont know much if anything at all about the church. the restoration starts on page 31 of the Preach My Gospel manual
