I've been wondering this for a while now. All of my chorus friends are really smart, so it seems like there's a correlation between choir nerdiness and school smartness. Music is brain food! so...discuss!

Does music make you smart, or do smart people tend to participate in musical activities? eek
I say that smart people do gravitate towards music, but music can help you with math and history type stuff so it can help you be smarter.

Well, there are all of those studies into the Mozart effect... playing classical music to make people smarter. And I just finished a book about the effects of different images and types of music on water which was fascinating... (is a philosophy nerd also, can't help it) Learning some sort of musical talent does develop a different part of your brain than you would normally use though, so I guess you could say that it makes you smarter. smile

You know, it just might.
but I think that music in general gives you the opportunity to use your brain to it's |almost| fullest extent.
