It was bright and sunny, almost too bright. Aysel skipped alongside her mother, holding hands with her tightly. The two paused at the street. Aysel looked right. All clear. And left, still clear!
The barefoot toddler rushed her mommy across the road, eager to see this 'beach'. She heard the water went alllllll the way out, past what she could see. The idea was silly, it took so much water to fill just the bathtub. There couldn't be that much water in the world.
Slowly the two ****** made their way up the boardwalk, higher than the street level, and stopped. The toddler's coral eyes grew wide with wonder. "'ig.." she said softly, in awe of the sparkling mass of water. Everywhere around them were people, swimming, sunning, playing.
"Come on Aysel. I'll teach you how to swim today," her mom said with a proud little smile. The two set off on to the sand, Aysel hanging back a bit. The toddler yelped with pain as her feet landed on the hot sand. Almost immediately the mage scooped Aysel up, searching for injuries.
"What's wrong? Are you okay??" Bright green eyes searched the luna moth child frantically.
Aysel clung to her mother. "Hooot!!" the little girl whined. With a laugh Tara simply shook her head, and continued onto the beach. The two finally found a nice spot at the edge of the public beach. A rock pier struck out from the street showing the edge between public and private beach.
As Tara set out the blanket, umbrella and beach basket, Aysel stole her mommies shoes and clambered up onto the pier. She took off until water surrounded her and stared fascinated at ocean.

Narayan was smirking as he watched one of his aunts try to manage a large pink tote, her phone, keys to the car and other wierd female nitbits. They were strange, the boobied species of the human race, and so far he decided all they were good at was carrying stuff and smelling really good.
Boobied people were strange.
Testing the edge of the sand, he scowled. The beach had been so pretty, and he hadn't really understood what these people had meant when they had said it was hot. The house was hot too!
But this... this was boiling.
Slipping onto a pair of sandles crudely ornamented for his feet, he looked around.
"Narayan, your sun block!"
His aunt threw it in his directly, and he caught it simply enough-- it was a pathetic throw, and a pathetic catch. But still.
"I'll sit down somewhere... don't go too far, okay?"
Narayan nodded, and made his way towards a bunch of umbrellas.
People!

The umbrella was up, in Tara's color's teal and red. "AYSEL!" the mage shouted. "Aysel! Come on back."
The toddler giggled as she listened to her mommy. She had no intention of getting off the jetty, or heading back. At least until she saw another child head towards the umbrellaed end of the beach. Eagerly she moved to head the other child off. A playmate! Her 'cousin' Alaqua hadn't been able to come. Something about her fur being too hot in the sun.
Her legs moved switftly, and though she wobbled from time to time, surely. "'I!" She chirped waving one arm eagerly as the other three kept her balance.
Tara shook her head in annoyance and started after the toddler. That girl, clingy one moment, and running circles around her the next.

What was _that_?!
Starng with the incredulity of a kid who wasn't quite sure how to react, Narayan nodded. "Spots." he responded, pointing. And then he raised four fingers. Four arms? That was...
Well.
That was scary.
"'Lo." he responded warily, and then grinned. Well. She seemed harmless enough as a freak of nature (anyone without a large nose was considered a freak, really), and she had said hello first. "N'rayan."
And he pointed to himself.
Who knew how smart other creatures were?

Aysel blinked. Spots? Oh! Her lovely spots. The toddler's smile became an outright beam of happiness. He liked her spots! As she got closer the toddler noticed a rather strange thing. The other boy's nose was all long and squiqqly, much like a worm. Moving in closer Aysel was about to poke the thing to see if it was indeed like the worm it resembled when the other boy spoke up again.
"N'rayan," Aysel repeated making sure she got the other boy's name straight. It was better than funny nose, or worm face.
"'m Aysel!" The luna moth said, carefully enunciating her name. "'lay?" She asked quickly, dropping the first sound of the word.
Tara finally caught up with the luna moth child and sighed with irritation. Marching up to the two children the mage dropped a heavy hand on Aysel's shoulder. Startled the toddler looked up. "Aysel. You are to come when I tell you too. Next time follow my directions."
The mage glanced at Narayan, doing a double take before pressing her lips together. "However, I'm glad to see you made a friend. You may play but stay in sight and away from the water. You don't know how to swim yet." No, the mage was not going to say anything. If the child was from D-corp fine. If not, that was fine too. She didn't want to get mixed up even farther.

"Lay?"
Narayan stared. On the sand? On the hot hot sand? He would burn to death, that was sure! Burn, and then his guardian would have...
roasted elephant boy for dinner.
Scrunching his face up, he was about to retort on the ridiculousness of it all when he saw the woman. Oh, play, was it?
...
And no water?
With a grin, (for the girl WAS playful) he nodded his head. "Play?" and reached for her hand. They could sit closer to the water, where the sand was cooler and firmer underneath his wide feet.
And then maybe he could get her into the water too. Just the edges.

The luna moth started guiltily. Oops.. Pitifully she looked up at Tara, eyes wide. She like the beach! She didn't wanna go home. The toddler didn't put so much into words. Already she had learned that whining wouldn't get her very far with her mommy, particularly if she had done something wrong.
Fortunately it didn't seem that big of an infraction. The mage simply warned her and Aysel nodded eagerly in response. "'Kay!" she replied, taking hold of the other childs hand. Eagerly she clapped with her bottom set of arms.
"Wait there a moment," the mage said, zipping back to their blanket and coming straight back with a bucket and some shovels. Handing them to Aysel, the girl grabbed them without letting go of Narayan's hand. "Have fun!" Tara wished the two before heading back to the shade of her umbrella.
Turning to Narayan, Aysel gestured at the beach with her last free hand. "'here?" the toddler asked him.

Narayan stared at the many arms. Wow. So it WAS useful to have more than one pair... more useful than it was to have a large nose, really. Seeing her with new respect, he shook his head.
"Too soft." he responded. Besides, if they needed water (he had made mud castles at home, in the garden. So he liked to think he was an expert. (Actually, Narayan liked to think he was an expert at everything.) ) and the thought of getting up for water every two seconds ... well, upset him.
"Closer?" he asked, motioning to a spot where he would be able to sit on cooler sand. It was darker, prettier, and in his mind, reminded him more of mud. Mud was fun.

Aysel dug in the sand with her mom's oversized shoe. It certainly was soft and squishy underfoot, grains racing to get away from her. But having never been to the beach before, Aysel wasn't quite sure how that was a bad thing. It was fun to walk in, if hot.
The toddler nodded. 'Yan seemed to have been here before so he must know what he was doing. Aysel pondered it for a moment before heading towards the water, oblivious to the boy's neferious intent to get her into the water. "'Kay."
For a moment Aysel hesitated, not wanting to admit her ignorance. Curiousity eventually won out. "'Hat we 'oing?" the Luna Moth asked innocently as they moved to sit on the slightly damp sand.

Narayn frowned. Using his nose to scratch at his mouth as he tried to figure _this_ mystery out, he nodded. They would make sand castles! Maybe it would hold better then mud ones... mud ones went all gross and crackly. Although mud did feel really goot on the skin.
"Castle?" he asked, permission needed since she seemed to hold all the goodies. How that would lead to water he wasn't quite sure yet... hmm. He would wait until that opportunity came about though.
It would have to, eventually.
Digging at the sand and making a small pile, he patted it in a miniature triangle. "Fairy Tale." he frowned, trying to get his point across. JD's sister had bought him books with pictures with towers and pretty scraves handing on the top of the towers. They could build one of those!
Although where they would find a miniature prince and a pincess, he didn't know.

Aysel watched fascinated as Yan scratched his face with his nose. Absently she tried wiggling her own in an imitation of the elephant boy. How cool that he could move his nose like that. With the fascination came again the urge to poke the worm like thing. Aysel giggled. Having a worm on your face must tickle.
"Kay!" she replied, dumping out the bucket of goodies. There were shovels and molds and of course the big bucket. "Airy ale astle," she nodded repeating after the boy. "'ith a ower!" Aysel added.
The luna moth watched as Yan began to make a small pile. Taking the cue from him she dug up a large patch of slightly damp sand and dumped it next to his pile. Aysel frowned as the grains spilled down the side of the pile, still to dry to really stick. Once again the toddler dug up some sand, this time dumping it into the castle mold. Turning the mold upside down Aysel waited eagerly for the first section of the wall to come out.
With a whoosh she pulled the mold away, letting out a dissapointed cry as the spikes crumbled away. Glancing over at Yan she bit her lip, watching how he was doing.

Sitting closer to the water, Narayan looked up, brightening as an idea hit her. "No tower?" he asked almost sympathetically, because it did hurt. They needed to have a beautiful castle. That way one of those princes or princesses could come down, and Narayan could kidnap them and take them home to show off to JD.
Glancing to his side at the water next to him, he nodded his head. "Wa'er helps." he said. After all, he was sitting just slightly closer to the damp sand, and it seemed to hold... well. Kind of. More or less. Sort of.
Eh. It wasn't holding very well either.
Staring at the bucket, and then at her, he tilted his head. "Fill with water?" he queried. Of course he'd try to get her to do it.
Honestly. Boobies were stupid sometimes. How could water hurt the Aysel?

Aysel shook her head sadly as she watched his own tower crumble softly. "Yeah! 'ore 'ater!" Tara was going to have to work with the toddler on her enunciation later. Aysel nodded in agreement with 'Yan as he brilliantly suggested filling the pail with water.
Handing it over with one hand Aysel continued try to get her tower up. The brilliant mind of a toddler followed that since 'Yan suggested it, he would get the honors of testing it.

He had to? Dismay flickered across his features as he continued to stare. Reaching for the pail with his noise (his hands were occupied trying to keep the tower together) he nodded his head. Next time, he would send her. Next time. It would be easier too.
Getting up and watching it crumble, he walked rapidly closer to the ocean, pausing as he smiled at the way the water seemed to curl around his feet. It was nice, if for the half sinking sensation. (literally)
Coming back with a pail sloshing with water, he beamed at her, nodding his head. See? Water could be fun!
And then he was hit with an idea.
He had practiced this at home. Sometimes it went too far up and hurt, but he would be careful, and not overly ambitious. Setting the pail down and swirling his trunk inside, he paused, pulling up a fraction of the water.
And hit Aysel with it, splashing her arms, her chest.
He would get her in it, sooner or later.

A cannon of water spashed into Aysel, a killing blow straight at the chest. For a moment the toddler paused looking down at her clothes in dismay before staring at 'Yan. For another half second, Aysel considered the splash. It didn't last long before she started giggling. Reaching over to the pail she grabbed the bucket and threw the last of the water at 'Yan. Most of it splashed harmlessly to the side, her aim not very good.
Giggles turned into full out laughter as she scrambled up to her feet still clutching the bucket. The luna moth really hoped he wouldn't be mad. After all, 'Yan started it.
Her thoughts brought her full circle to the now empty bucket, completely forgetting about any retaliation her new friend might bring upon them. "Uh oh..." She said, one of the few things that wasn't cut off or slurred.
