It's the ending of the year, and I didn't buy a yearbook. So, I just let people sign on my Gravitation book. sweatdrop

I freak out when people write in my books. I use to write my name on the inside cover until I got stickers that say "From the library of ....."
Once a high school girl friend thought I had one of those pens with erasable ink and she scribbled along the margin of my copy of Stephen King's The Gunslinger. I was not pleased.

I like to write in books, I think it gives them personality. ^^ But I'm also one of those people who never has a writing utensil, so I almost never do. sweatdrop However, I don't mind if other people write in them. My policy (with only a couple exceptions, such as my limited edition Peter Pan and my leather-bound copy of The Hobbit) is pretty much "if it's readable, I don't care."

I use my books as binders for some things sometimes. gonk
And sometimes I let people write their screen names/ Phone numbers on them. It's fine with me, as long as I own the book. I'd love to pick up 30 years from now and look at a bit of history I had when I was a kid and wonder what it was all about if I still remember or not.

I've never thought about this really, because no one has ever written in any of my books...
I don't think I'd like a lot of writing on the pages, though that depends on the book. As long as it wasn't a special copy little notes would be sort of neat. So the book would have more character. Some writing in the front cover I wouldn't have a problem with, especially if it was a nice note from a friend.
I never even write my name in my books though...

I don't mind so much if other people wtie in my books, but highlighters, oh thats a differnet matter interially! The marker leaks through the pages and stanes the inside of the book, I hate when people do that.

I dissect and analyze the books I read and I don't mind if people do the same unless they completely disagree with my understanding of the book....because then they just butcher the pages....Otherwise I like to have different perspectives...Helps me understand the book better..

For some reason the highlighters I have used have a strange tendency to disappear over time.....so it's not very reliable

I'm very picky about what happens to my books like I'll freak out over rips and bends, but even more so about markings ;>.>
it's to the point were I refuse to so much as write my name in my books or put one of those "From the Library Of:" stickers in it, if it's important that I mark it in some way (like when I'm gaming most of us have the same books) I might go as far as putting a small symbol in the corner whare it's not noticable to anyone but me...
I can't even bring myself to highlight textbooks, at the end of the year my books look exaclly the same as the day I baught them >.<

Neverever Neverever Neverever Neverever Neverever Neverever Neverever Neverever Neverever Neverever Neverever Neverever
That's like the crime. I do write my name in books if they have a little line marked "name", but never anywhere else. When my english teacher said write all over the margins when you do a close reading, I almost keeled over.

I view books as works of art, so I neer write in them. Nor do I dog ear the pages or bend the spine or anything attrocious like that!
I understand that people enjoy it, but I find writing in books to be a crime.

Sometimes. On the rare occasion, I'll use a pencil to lightly mark a passage that I need to use later, and then I erase it. I have, however, started putting my name inside my books, as I've been lending them out. But aside from that, the only book I've ever really written in is my bible. I don't know why, but I never had a problem underlining passages and making notes in that book.

Depends if it's a crappy nth re-printing of a book, or something nicer/more expensive, like a hardcover. People writing in my crappy paperbacks doesn't bother me, but if someone wrote in my 1st edition copy of whatever, I'd be pissed.

In my opinion that's a complete sin! I do write my name in the corner of my books but thats it. I've caught myself going through the books in the library and erasing marks and unfolding bent pages. Drives me nuts. My books must be in perfect condition. It's gone so far that its been diagnosed as OCD. xd

Actually I think that little notes, underlines for meaningful things, and ect are pretty interesting. I know that I bought a book from a garage sale and when i picked it up one day to read it, i was just flipping through pages I found a quote that was underlined that I absolutely love.
"If i reveal myself without caring what others think, some will care, though others may not. But who can love me if noone knows me?"
so i dont find it as bad. I know that my 5000 Book of spells has certian things highlighted by myself like must knows and importent little things. -shrugs-
